πŸŒ„ New Policies and a Fresh Start For a Cleaner Grill

GD Grillers!

It’s recently come to our attention the need to reassess, update, and implement our content policy and Grill user guidelines. We aim to make Grill a safe zone for creators and their communities alike, but as much as the main goal is to help Grillers monetize their content, we must do this fairly.

Therefore, we have made key changes to our content policy to ensure Grill remains a safe level playing field for high-quality creators. Please familiarize yourself with the new content guidelines and tailor your amazing content to these policies moving forward.

πŸ“’ Important Changes

These are some of the most important changes that have been made to our content policy:

  • Code of Conduct update
  • 3-flag rule
  • Ban policy
  • Redemption policy
  • Reporting guidelines

πŸ“ƒ Code of Conduct

Our recent decision to review and implement new policies was driven by multiple codes of conduct breaches by Grill users. Although some of these issues, like spamming, have always been a concern, other issues like copyright infringement, plagiarism, harassment, and abuse have come to light these past weeks.

Therefore, our updated code of conduct addresses different actions and behaviors that will be flagged by the team, including:

  • Originality and insight - Any form of content confirmed to be more than 40% AI-generated by GPTzero is deemed unoriginal and will be flagged.
  • Copyright and intellectual property - Unless the cross-posted content was originally created by you, any content found to be an obvious case of plagiarism, or confirmed as a more than 30% copy by Duplichecker will be flagged. Even if you include a link to the original source.
  • No spam or irrelevant engagement - Repeating random letters, words, phrases, emojis, and invaluable interactions is a breach of this rule. Off-topic contributions and sharing links from sources like X or YouTube without relevant titles and captions (can be personal thoughts, video descriptions, etc) are also considered spam. Photography or blog-like content should be properly described/labeled as such.
  • No trolling, provoking, abuse, or harassment - Grill strongly frowns upon any type of content that intimidates, humiliates, or degrades other users. This is a serious policy violation, so we implore you to respect other users and be constructive with any kind of feedback.
  • No explicit, prohibited, harmful, or scam-like content

See the full details of the updated Code of Conduct here.

🚩 3-Flag Rule

One of the ways we intend to implement our new policies is through a 3-flag rule. Simply put, this is the grace period given to violators. Thorough investigations will be carried out, and if a user is found guilty, they will be issued a flag.

❗ Any violations after 3 flags will result in a 50% reward deduction that week.

❗ A three-time reward deduction for policy violations will result in a ban.

For minor violations, the user will be issued 1 flag. For more serious violations, the user will be issued 3 strikes immediately. For extreme violations, the user will be BANNED from Grill.

Minor violations (1 strike) 🚩

  • Unoriginal (AI-generated) content
  • Copyright infringement
  • Repeated spamming and off-topic content

Serious violations (instant 3 strikes) 🚩🚩🚩

  • Trolling, abuse, insults, provocation, aggravation, and any form of intimidation toward other users
  • Posting explicit content or comments
  • Posting of prohibited items

⚠️ Ban Policy

For extreme violations, guilty users will be immediately banned from the platform. Any new accounts created to circumvent the ban will also be banned, and users will not be allowed to use Grill within the ban period. Instant ban offenses include:

  • Hate speech - Any discriminatory, racist, offensive, hate speech and/or the intent to cause harm.
  • Harmful intent - Attempting to phish, scam, manipulate, and/or cause harm to other users.

πŸ˜‡ Redemption Policy

All minor offenders will have a clean slate at the start of each new month. For example, if you had 3 strikes twice in the last month and one in the new month, it’ll be counted as a new 3-strike count, instead of three 3 strikes that would have resulted in a ban from Grill. Note that your rewards for that week will still be deducted and this is for minor (1-strike) offenses only.

πŸ‘€ Reporting Guidelines

To ensure we are all involved in making Grill a better place, we have created new report guidelines.

  1. Policy violations chat - If you come across any post or comment you believe breaches our new policies, please share it on this chat. If the reported user is found guilty, we will take further action.
  2. Grill policy violations space - On this space, the team will repost any content that has proven to violate any policy. This will serve as a track record for strike counts and a warning system for offenders and other users on Grill. We oblige users not to like/reward these report posts (due to the rewards splitting mechanism) and COMMENT ONLY.

🀝 Conclusion

We understand that some users may deem these actions as a move towards centralization, but we beg to differ. The team does not wish to stifle your freedom of speech, but as early builders, we all have a common goal β€” making Grill the biggest SocialFi and DeSo out there. WAGMI, but we can’t do that by encouraging/rewarding spam, abuse, or other forms of malicious intent.

As big believers in second chances, consider this announcement an olive branch to all past offenders. It’s a new dawn for high-value content and creators on Grill, so this will be a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new opportunity for all our Grillers to do even better.

The Subsocial team appreciates your understanding, and with that being said, β€œLet’s make Grill great again” πŸ’ͺ
