In 2023, the Nodle Network experienced remarkable growth, boasting a vibrant ecosystem of 1.172 million active nodes spread across 225 countries. The network was extended to 6,600 cities worldwide, creating a truly global presence. To sustain the network’s growth and guarantee its constant availability, 115.22 million NODL tokens were distributed as rewards among network nodes.

Over the course of 2023, 303.55K new wallets were created on the Nodle Chain, resulting in 707.8K token holders by the end of the year.

One of the key highlights of 2023 was the introduction of the NFT minting feature in the Nodle app. This groundbreaking addition allowed users to mint 42,100 NFTs, unleashing a wave of creativity and digital ownership within the Nodle ecosystem. The adoption of NFTs further with the unveiling of the NFT minting tool, providing a seamless way to craft and distribute unique NFT collections.

A total of 41.83M transactions involving the NODL token were submitted on the Nodle Chain. This extraordinary transaction volume underscores the active engagement and tangible utility of the Nodle network throughout the year.

Smart Missions will be a massive update to the Nodle Network this year and the Nodle app is getting ready for it. Here is everything new about the iOS version of the Nodle app:

* The missions widget has been upgraded, providing timely alerts for nearby missions and indicating when none are active.
* A newly designed mission list simplifies the tracking and handling of missions and rewards.
* You now have the flexibility to start and stop your participation in the Nodle Network mission at your convenience.

# **New Missions Interface**

The **missions widget** on the map is evolving into a more dynamic and interactive tool. In addition to showing users’ daily rewards, it will soon alert them to new missions nearby as Smart Missions are fully integrated. It also notifies users when no active missions are available, such as when certain permissions are missing, signaling a pause in reward accumulation. A click on the widget reveals a detailed list of missions; however, as of now, only the solitary Nodle Network mission is accessible until the complete introduction of Smart Missions.

The **mission list** offers a clear and efficient way for users to track, manage, and view rewards for each mission. Detailed information about each mission can be readily accessed with a simple click on the chosen mission in the list.

# **Getting full control over the Nodle Network Mission**

The upcoming update empowers users with enhanced control over the Nodle Network mission. They now have the flexibility to activate or deactivate the mission at their convenience, allowing for more effective management of their phone’s resources. Instead of needing to close the Nodle app or turn off Bluetooth or GPS services to stop the mission, users can simply access the Missions list and press the pause button. This redesigned interface offers a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.

In scenarios where permissions are missing, the Nodle Network mission will automatically pause. This status is clearly displayed on the map, indicating the absence of active missions and, as a result, the suspension of NODL token accrual. This streamlined functionality ensures users have a transparent understanding of the mission’s status for efficient management.

This improved control over the Nodle Network mission also facilitates users in using the Nodle app as a wallet for NODL tokens. They can easily pause the mission or choose never to accept it.

# **Streamlined Onboarding for New Users**

To enhance the experience for new users, we have simplified the onboarding process. Users now only need to grant location permission to search for nearby missions. Initially, only the Nodle Network mission is available, but as Smart Missions are introduced, users can review the list of found missions and choose which ones to accept. Each mission will require specific permissions, empowering users to select the most suitable ones.

As some of you know, we’ve been extremely busy building a new consumer app, [**Click**](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/click-app-trusted-camera/id6472920649)**,** on the Nodle network.

We recently launched the first version of [**Click on the App Store**](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/click-app-trusted-camera/id6472920649), with a waitlist. # **Introduction**

The [Nodle Explorer](https://network.nodle.com/) got a major upgrade, making it even better for users to understand what’s happening in the Nodle Ecosystem. In this article, we’ll break down the key changes in the Network and Token views, giving you a clearer picture of the new features.

# **Enhanced Network View**

The Network view was simplified by removing the reporting period selector and moving NODL token and Nodle chain metrics to a dedicated Token view. You can now effortlessly check the monthly and weekly active nodes on a single page, eliminating the need to switch between different timeframes.

Additionally, several new metrics were added for enhanced insights into the Nodle network. The WAU/MAU ratio reflects node activity, with proximity to 1 meaning consistent node engagement. Metrics tracking new nodes and monthly active node growth rate provide a clear overview of network dynamics and its expansion rate.

# **New Token View**

The Token View tab has been introduced to consolidate metrics for both the NODL token and the Nodle chain.

In addition to the previously available data such as the NODL token price and the total supply, you can now access information on the token’s circulating and maximum supply. By multiplying these values with the token price, the system calculates and displays key financial metrics such as the market capitalization and fully diluted value (FDV) on the dashboard.

Furthermore, the Explorer uses the total supply of tokens and the daily issuance of NODL to calculate and display the token inflation rate. This provides valuable insights into the token actual stability as opposed to the perception. Remarkably, this inflation rate is lower than the global inflation rates for many fiat currencies.

There is the perception that the Nodle Network rewards “too much” the network participants. In reality, at it currently stands at 3.4% inflation rate per year, this is in line with other networks. The Polkadot network for instance has no maximum supply and has an inflation rate of 10% a year (see [reference](https://support.polkadot.network/support/solutions/articles/65000173907-what-is-the-total-supply-of-dot-)) with about 7% going to staking rewards. In the case of the Nodle Network, the rewards don’t go to stakers that contribute their tokens, but instead go to network participants that contribute their resources (time and network access).

# **Chain Activity Metrics**

The Token View now includes expanded chain activity metrics, offering a comprehensive overview of various aspects such as the number of token holders, new wallet creations, transfers, and user transactions (excluding rewards) on the Nodle chain.

Additionally, it encompasses NFT metrics, detailing the total number of NFTs minted on the chain, recent NFT minting activity, and the number of NFT transfers.

On Jan 14, **Nodle** and [**PolkaWarriors**](https://t.me/PolkaWarriors_Global) together organized an AMA with the community to introduce Nodle Network - an crowdsourced decentralized IoT network built on Polkadot. 

*“Nodle has created a global decentralized network of smartphones where every participant acts as a node in the network. All you need to do is to install a simple app Nodle Cash app. These connect to IoT devices and sensors around you and that's how you generate the Nodle Cash crypto currency. We pay people every 6 seconds”*

### Below is a summary of the outstanding questions and answers from the AMA session.

**1. The idea of the project is really unique and incredible, how did this idea come about?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

I think I started to answer that question a bit earlier in my introduction. Previously I created FireChat, which was an off-the-grid, private P2P messaging app that used Bluetooth to allow nearby users to message with each other

Back in 2014, I was coincidentally in Hong Kong during the 2014 Umbrella movement. Everywhere I went, I got the notification “FireChat user nearby!” It turns out, around 500,000 people downloaded the app that week

It was an AHA moment…as I realized that my dream of building a global mesh network using smartphones worked

Fast forward a couple of years, my Nodle co founder Garrett Kinsman, who also was at FireChat and then Ola Cabs (connected car infrastructure) in India, realized that this same Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh architecture used in FireChat could be used for more than just sending messages from phone to phone

The key though was to incentivize people to build a new “smartphone infrastructure” while protecting their privacy. Incentivized mesh networks, as we envisioned, could be used to connect millions of IoT devices like vehicles and sensors – and app developers could be paid to deploy this network

In 2017, we built a software-only network that uses smartphones as wireless IoT base stations. Any sensor or device in proximity can use the smartphone as a gateway to send data back to the internet. This was called Nodle, which stands for Network Operator of Devices Low Energy.

Smartphone users with our app or software could generate crypto in the form of Nodle Cash (NODL) by providing connectivity to nearby IoT devices and this in turn would build a lightweight network

**2. Who is the main target of Nodle? Are you primarily focused on individual users or enterprises? Who benefits the most from the services offered by Nodle?**

Nodle is a multi-sided marketplace: 

Individuals can benefit from Nodle Cash to generate crypto from their smartphones and soon purchase services with it 
Many users in our community refer to it as a type of passive income and even use old phones to increase their earnings
Enterprises can leverage the network created by individuals for accessing services and/or internet for their IoT devices.
App developers can easily install our SDK into their apps to earn revenue as opposed to serving ads and charging for subscriptions
That way they can improve the overall user experience

**3. Do you have any plan for burning tokens in the future to reduce the supply of the token and increase its investment attractiveness?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

We are starting on-chain services and revenues this year with large businesses 

This is just a start, Ethereum didn’t have to burn tokens to become attractive, they simply enabled use cases on their chain that increased usage and adoption

**4. IF THE BEAR MARKET COMES will your token PROBABLY DUMP? Do you have any plan to prepare for this bear market? How will you handle the panic sell?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

We are building a real ecosystem with a lot of use cases and services that are less  sensitive to the market conditions. I think if we enter a bear market, it is probably the best condition to deliver on the promise of the network and deliver value and services. We are in this for the long term. We have been through many bear and bull market times and cycles already so I am not concerned.

**5. As I know, strong backing and partnerships in the crypto market might bring huge benefits to new projects. During this point, can you tell us about the investors and partners of your project?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

Later today we will announce a strategic partnership with a digital collectible and NFT-focused trading ecosystem to enable secure in-person, networkless transactions and proximity trading.

Early investors include Blockchain.com Ventures, Blockchange, Blockhead, Bootstrap Labs, Marc Pincus (Zynga), Pierre Andurand, Greg Kidd, TRGC Capital, Coins Group, Moonwhale Ventures, Maxx Capital, Hillrise Capital, Dutch Crypto Investors (DCI).

Other partners include Acala, Republic, Ledger, Zondax, Tangem, Web3 Foundation (received a grant for public key infrastructure), 5G Open Innovation Lab, Berkeley Blockchain Xcelerator, Parallel Finance and Bifrost for our Crowdloan campaign, and ESTV, the eSports live streaming network, uses the Nodle SDK to replace ads and protect the privacy of their users. 

I’m thrilled to share that we have dozens of partnerships that will be announced very soon. 

In the pats years, Nodle has had OEM partnerships with HTC 1 and 1s Exodus phones (the 1st blockchain phones for HTC, both models were pre-installed with Nodle Cash), the City of Paris, and Cisco Meraki to support their access points; piloted with national railways, multiple consumer asset-tracking tag companies to track consumer assets such as keys and other items, a European insurtech company uses Nodle to track stolen vehicles; we’ve worked with telcos on pilots to expand IoT offerings and further monetize their networks and many others including Fortune 500 logistics companies and retailers to ensure there's real demand for the network, and we have an exciting year ahead!

**6. Have you been audited ? Have not heard you talk about that the security of funds is what every investor craves for and plans to escape incase of insecurity if funds, scams and rug pulls ? How strongly built are your security put in place?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

Pretty important point. We have been audited in the past and today we are working with Halborn Security to help secure  NODL token storage and improve security. We were also one of the first Substrate-based chains to partner with Zondax to have our own Ledger app. The app is pending release.

**7. What can we expect to see from your platform in the short-term (at some point in 2022?? And beyond (long-term goals)?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

**8. Who is your project's biggest rival? In the future, does your project have a plan to beat your rival or cooperate with them? I think that will be a huge step forward for your project.**

**Micha Benoliel:**

We released our white paper prior to Helium and they have been growing pretty fast

I consider them as our first competitor and potential partner too since many IoT devices use LoRaWan and Bluetooth

Our main difference and competitive advantage is that we are 100% software, so there’s no hardware to purchase 

In fact, we have many community members that are also Helium miners or used to be

We raised multiple rounds and today we are a team of 50 people contributing to the project.  We have more than 3 years of runway. The first revenues on-chain are planned for this year.

**3. Most users are still not aware of Blockchain & its related projects ! So, How Your Project platform creates awareness about their project with NON-CRYPTO users too?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

We are lucky to have a mobile app, Nodle Cash, that you can download from the playstore or the appstore and that enables you to become a node in the network and to start generating Nodle Cash tokens. It is probably one of the easiest way to generate cryptocurrency today for soemone who is not familiar with crypto

**4. Security and anonymity are always prioritized by BlockChain projects in the development of project platforms and technologies. So, do you have any technological solutions or plans to enhance user trust in these issues?**

**Micha Benoliel:**

We put privacy at the core of our values. If you saw some of our previous replies our team also made the app FireChat in the past that helped many students in Hong Kong.

On security we have regular audits and work with Halborn security and we are about to release our app for Ledger to help users secure their Nodle Cash holdings.

We have a big vision. If you consider Ethereum to have become the first largest distributed computer.

Nodle is envisioning building a giant distributed network of smartphones. Imagine all the things that can be done with a smartphone that can't be done with a traditional computer.

**6. What corner of the world do you plan to arrive? That is, to what extent in the world do you think your Project will be solving people's problems with their infrastructure?**

We have reached more than a 100 countries today with the app. Once the network reaches 300 Million smartphones globally, we would have built the largest distributed infrastructure out there and we should be able to solve many of the connectivity issues globally for IoT devices and sensors. 

And at some point we expect the protocol to be used to provide free access to people or at least provide enough revenues to smartphone users so they can pay their data plan with the Nodle Cash app revenues.

With the growth of DeFi and NFTs, 2021 was a great year for the crypto ecosystem. Uniswap took everyone by surprise when they created their retroactive airdrop at the end of 2020, which then kick-started the DeFi trend. New kinds of protocols are allowing people to tokenize and then leverage their assets, with the DeFi ecosystem ultimately imposing itself as a solid alternative to the traditional centralized finance ecosystem. But just as everybody was thinking 2021 would be the year of DeFi, NFTs suddenly became extremely trendy thanks to the introduction of various easy-to-use platforms and a new wave of adoption by the artist, gaming, and non-crypto native communities. We saw the introduction of specialized applications such as Foundation or Mirror, which provide new ways for content creators to monetize their work.

### **Polkadot in 2021**

The Polkadot ecosystem by itself enjoyed a successful 2021, with the first parachains launched a few months ago, first on 
Kusama Network, and then on Polkadot. Thanks to supporters contributing their token holdings toward the projects they want to support, the parachain auctions — which are necessary for projects to become parachains — saw a record-breaking volume of millions of DOTs and KSMs. This is a great step toward interoperability between chains, which should lay the ground for a new wave of layer 1 and layer 2 apps taking advantage of various chains.
Nodle in 2021

The team at Nodle is incredibly proud of the progress we made over the last year. We have experienced massive, unexpected growth in terms of protocol usage, community, and within our team.
Nodle Cash Token 2021 started with our private token sale outside the US, in partnership with TokenSoft Inc. and Republic Crypto, which exceeded our expectations and put us in an excellent position to grow the team and network throughout the year. The support we received from the Nodle community was extremely humbling and encouraging, and we are grateful for all the support from our community.

In November 2021, we initiated a [redenomination](https://nodle.medium.com/announcing-the-redenomination-of-nodle-cash-nodl-on-monday-november-15th-85517e547fca) and removed one decimal from the Nodle Cash token, meaning that every balance is now displayed with one more zero (i.e., all balances were effectively multiplied by 10). This was met with strong support from our community and made the token more accessible and attractive to newcomers and users alike of the Nodle Cash app on mobile.
We have established strong relationships with various exchange partners and are in the process of finalizing audits to be ready for listing. The ultimate timing of our listing remains with the third-party exchanges, and we will keep the community updated as things unfold.

### **Team**

We used the past year to grow our team from just a dozen to almost 50 today. We have been fortunate enough to build a team of extremely talented and passionate people who were key to making this year as successful as it was for the Nodle Network. We hired for multiple roles such as community managers, developers, engineers, product managers, business developers, and many more.

### **Engineering and Product**

Our engineering team was joined by a team of product experts and grew from a total of 4 people to now 17 team members. We hired multiple talents for our SDK, mobile application, big data infrastructure, front ends, chain, and more. We were able to better organize ourselves, implement new processes to increase quality, improve reliability, and deliver a higher level of performance across all the Nodle infrastructure and stack.

### **SDK**

Our engineering, product, and business development teams worked together to improve the Nodle SDK deployed by application partners. We were able to build a streamlined onboarding experience for our partners, release long-awaited support for iOS, and build an internal beta of the SDK that supports Linux platforms such as routers and Raspberry Pi computers.

These year-long efforts led us to sign deployment agreements with 14 new application partners, including global e-Sports streaming network [ESTV](https://cryptobriefing.com/nodle-announces-partnership-with-estv/), and we hope to multiply that number next year. Each partner embedding the SDK in their applications in place of traditional advertising SDKs brings thousands if not millions of nodes to the Nodle Network, which dramatically improves its performances and coverage.

### **Network**

A tremendous amount of work went into making the network and big data infrastructure of Nodle more reliable. We operated a full architecture change internally in order to reach better stability in terms of network service and rewards stability. We built a series of internal tools to reach better visibility within the network so we can understand and detect issues before they happen.
Today, the Nodle network is composed of 5 million daily active smartphones, with 30 million IoT devices moving approximately 100 GB of data across 100+ countries on a daily basis. An average of 24 million Bluetooth packets per hour were sent during the month of November 2021 alone.

We also started building a new set of public dashboards to let users interact with the network, subscribe to data streams for devices they operate, and manage SDKs.

### **Nodle Cash Application**

Nodle Cash application is one of the key interfaces people use to interact with the network today and is thus a crucial part of our stack. Our release of Nodle Cash V3 in November 2021 brought a massive redesign of the application to make it more clear and easier to use. We dramatically improved its stability, improved its integration with the Nodle Chain, and, most importantly, changed the UI paradigm to a more location- and device-centric user experience.
The waves of support these changes were met with by our community were extremely encouraging for our team, helping us reach over 400K installations of the application and double our number of Daily Active Users — and further improving the network’s reliability and coverage.

### **Nodle Chain**

Among the many improvements we made to the Nodle Chain itself were partnering with Zondax to develop a [Ledger Wallet application](https://nodle.medium.com/nodle-cash-compatible-with-hardware-wallet-ledger-nano-thanks-to-partnership-with-zondax-922ec67174bc) to support the Nodle Chain, which is currently under review by Ledger. We also created a Nodle-specific [block explorer](https://explorer.nodle.com/) that provides better visibility within the Nodle Chain itself. In order to better decentralize and secure the network, we kick-started an effort to reach out to third parties such as Blockchain.com, Audit.one, Snowball, and PrestigeIT to become the first community-run Nodle Chain validators. Those nodes would be in charge of processing transactions and blocks on the chain. We already have a list of 30 to 50 candidate nodes and should launch some testing efforts in 2022.

Because security and safety are so critical, we hired Halborn to audit the Nodle Chain and later other components of the network. Halborn has a proven track record when it comes to auditing Substrate-based chains, and also testing the security of IoT devices or networks, which makes them an excellent fit for Nodle.

Recently, we announced our [Nodle Crowdloan](https://bit.ly/crowdloansspost) in order to participate in the second batch of Polkadot parachain auctions. Within the past two weeks, the crowdloan received over 450K DOTs of support (over $14M at the time of this writing) from 1,946 contributors. We partnered with Parallel Finance and BiFrost to both help users retain liquidity for the DOTs they use to support a project and provide different options to help support the Nodle crowdloan. The goal of participating in this crowdloan auction is to enable more security for the Nodle Network by adding the Polkadot network of validators and by enabling better interoperability of our chain and services with other chains and ecosystems.

A few months ago, we introduced a full redesign of the [Nodle website](https://nodle.com) to make it more understandable and easier to navigate, and to better reflect the work of our team and company. We also rolled out a [dedicated status page](https://status.nodle.com/) to help provide transparency to the various services we provide and are gradually adding new pages and content as we continue these efforts.

### **Last Words, and Getting Ready for 2022**

While 2021 was a great year for Nodle, we anticipate making even more progress, significant improvements, and achieving continued growth in 2022. While we will communicate on our public roadmap in the near future, we are already prepared to bring more decentralization to the network, get even closer to our community, and roll out various improvements to existing tools and products.

2022 will also see the full deployment of Nodle’s first commercial applications running on the network and chain. With various international partners, the first application will be in the domain of the location of assets, which was tested in previous years for industrial and logistic applications.
