Ah, the past few weeks have been so busy that I can’t believe this competition had slipped through my fingertips. Luckily there is still a few hours to enter :D. 

One part of UN-LUX, a creative collective, would be: 

**Fractionalising Real Estate **

There are approximately 600,000 empty properties in the UK, out of which 2 % are in London [ note: probably higher due to the Coronavirus pandemic ]. In order to solve this problem, our proposal is to fractionalise ownership of property into NFTs so that multiple owners can obtain part of the asset. Depending on the property owners’ budget, UN-LUX could 3D scan the property and upload it to the metaverse, thus enabling a clear view to everyone in the world of the property itself, which would ultimately attract further international buyers and/or investors. 


**Repurposing Real Estate **

Let’s say the estate has been fractionalised into NFTs and all of them have been snatched, but the owners wish to capitalise on it without selling. 

Maybe they have plenty of assets already and they wish to do something “good” or “charitable” with the property. 

The building does not fit the current market and its interiors could look better, maybe the area and local community could benefit from this building if it was used in a different manner [ it has been proven that local communities suffer if their is an abundance of empty properties in the area ]. 

The procedure [ you could even say that the parties involved become a DAO ]: 

1. Property owners vote if they wish to repurpose the building. If the vote passes, they decide on a budget. 

2. UN-LUX suggests ways for the building to be repurposed within the budget 

3. If the property is rented, commercialised or used for events, workshops, galleries, activities etc, the properties’ price increases, if it is used for events its popularity increases, thus increasing the chances of resales. If there are art sales within the space - owners get cuts. If there are events - owners get cuts. Plenty of revenues streams to consider.  

The same procedure would apply in case of a charitable cause, except that budgets would be allocated for educating unprivileged youth or similar purposes. 

So that’s it! Hope the Altair team enjoyed the suggestion! This might be an idea for now, but we are determined to make it a reality.

Parallel Worlds Update 

I am delighted to release my first [SubID Banner NFTs! ](https://singular.rmrk.app/collections/726ef17b504db9d71d-7D3BB)As you all know, Subsocial has recently released [SubID](https://sub.id/), a snazzy tool that has all your Dotsama details in one place. You can preview all of your assets in a gorgeous and simple UI. 

On this occasion, I am releasing a set of banners as NFTs. 
Although 3 will be released on RMRK.app’s Singular marketplace, 1 will be given to a winner of a writing challenge. Stay tuned, the details will be revealed this week. 

**But first, a little bit of information behind the art: **


These images are a fusion of images that are stuck somewhere on the ETH blockchain as yours truly idiotically minted her first NFTs on Rarible. Might I add that they have been de-listed and have been collecting dust since then as I have read all the articles on the environmental impacts of ETH NFTs (also: I am not paying for ETH’s electricity bill aka GAS FEES just to burn my work. These JPGS might as well rot as far as I care). 

…so I’ve decided to play dr. Frankenstein and fuse some digital imagery with a photograph of Ungoverned Geometry, a calligraphic painting. 

The florals were taken in my garden, I was quite depressed during the time, but these were beautiful, it was quite a joy to edit them. During February 2021, these were framed and set up on a wall in Soho in the midst of lockdown. Thankfully someone stole them. :D 

As for Ungoverned Geometry: I’ve started working on it in NOV 2019. It was repainted at least 5 times because I hated it. It took a year to complete, as I’d leave it next to me whilst working on my computer, looking at it, contemplating every piece, bit by bit. It was finally completed in FEB 2021. The abstract script is a combination of Old English type (printed) and Arabic Script. 

And OFC, there is a pure banner featuring Ungoverned Geometry.

# **Introduction**
This article presents 7 arguments why Polkadot [rebranding suggestions](https://vote.polkadot.network/) should be reconsidered. There were [numerous pools and comments from various social media platforms](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1db8N7cFe5Hu3XmXVnrY9BldP027j80sC?usp=sharing) where we can see how [the majority of the Dotsama](https://twitter.com/danreecer_/status/1455157494595063814?s=20) community favours the current logo over new proposals

While I do think (as a designer) that there are matters some people just can’t comment on because they don’t know how design works(it is like not knowing how to speak a language), I have summed up my thoughts to argue why neither of these proposals are representative of the Polkadot brand.  

While I would personally avoid these types of pools([Wao pointed out how this could divide us](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XPH7Nb26ZNVKSj5T4dyXYWNZCP-eSZxr/view?usp=sharing)), it seems like the community agrees unanimously that the suggested branding is good, just not great. And don’t we all want it to be representative of the Polkadot brand, rather than JUST aesthetically pleasing and design-rule-obedient? 

# **Part 1: Visuals **

**—— Argument 1**
> **Slogan: Stake Your Freedom**

As you know, Dotsama chains are not the only ones that use this consensus mechanism. This could mislead newcomers in a way that they’d think how Proof of Stake is the main aspect of Polkadot. Of course, $Dot is a governance token and “freedom” could be related to voting power, however, it still drops out the most important feature of this chain and it puts focus on governance, which (ironically) screams: if you got enough cash, you can control us. 

**—— Argument 2**
> **Slogan 2: The Blockchain of Blockchains**

While this slogan, (to a certain degree) does make sense, it does hint at chain maximalism, which is what Polkadot is the opposite of. The aesthetics of placing 2 words next to each other is also questionable as this results in repetition.

If applied to (digital and/or) print in smaller

While “Logotype A” represents parachains, the way this is executed is questionable primarily because of the mentioned size. However, it would be nice to see some alternatives, although this might be difficult to illustrate in such manner. It seems like the majority of our community is set on this kind of representation.

Both Identities**
I won’t comment on brand identities as I haven’t been extensively involved in these fields until recently, what I will say is that I don’t feel that either are representative of their own briefs / statements:

> This concept turns the humble dot into a bold, uncompromising, and iconic symbol, reflecting the vast scope of the Polkadot vision. This identity’s simple and clear focus on a large circular dot provides a broad canvas that can be pushed, pulled, and adapted in many directions


**Identity B**
> Representing the breadth of Polkadot’s technology and communities, this direction is powered by a multitude of smaller dots coming together to form emergent designs and systems. This identity’s playful nature enables a wide range of expression and invention.

If you agree on this and if you think that the visuals do not communicate what they say they do, then I think that both proposals need to be further developed. 

If the visuals don’t get the community excited, how are they going to excite or speak to those that are not part of our community? 

**—— Argument 6**
**The changes are not so drastic 
that they should even be considered.**

There is no point in even considering a redesign unless it is DRASTIC. These are minimal tweaks, the main things that the current brand could have benefited from are: 

- Broader asset library 
- UX/UI design systems
- UX/UI for Polkadot JS
- Slogan  
- Logotype Tweak (current logo looks very similar to Pinterest)
- Font update (I actually have nothing against the proposed fonts) 

While implementing a new brand identity, Polkadot will need to focus A LOT on [branding awareness](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qGxICX0hsRFP5ZFlQbNR-FAIIiC7Kxt3/view?usp=sharing) and rebuilding its own image. 

# **Part 2: Argument 7: Audience**

his is very difficult as people are generally unfamiliar with what blockchains are, however, we could provide simple and comprehensive documentation on these, before we dive into what Polkadot is. Once we understand how to simply explain blockchain, we will understand how to accurately communicate the Polkadot brand.

**Onboarding new users | Familiar with Blockchain**
(NFT) artists, developers, investors, designers, project managers, entrepreneurs etc. 
While I understand that Kusama is far more rebellious than Polkadot, if we compare [these visuals ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMegZaFfrzI&t=6s)to the proposed ones for Polkadot, they look much better! Just for your reference, compare the Dot logo below to Solana’s. Obviously, all types from this audience will do their research, but it would help if the visuals would make them think: Oh, this looks cool! Or perhaps: I really want to be part of this community!

**To the community**
We want to be proud for being part of the ecosystem… so far the comments on social platforms were in the domains of: “lame” … and we even have some memes. This is an indicator that the community does not feel representative of the visuals. Whilst branding option B claims to represent the community and the projects within it, we have our own opinions on this matter. 

# **Conclusion + suggestions: **
**1. Go back to the drawing board**

I assume that quite a bit of money has been thrown on this project, and we can see this as R&D. Show the designs to more people, to those from the “audience” groups above and collect data. Based on this data come up with a new design. How would this design be worth wile? If it is RADICALLY different to the previous one. 


**2. Minimal Tweaks**
The differences between new designs and this one are not the that major, and this is the main reason why I see no need for these proposals. I’d advise on minimal tweaks which have already been mentioned in **Argument 6**(I am aware that they are not as minimal as they seem).

**3. And the obvious cheeky: "How I would do it"**

**Overall creative direction:** Construct a narrative around multi chain interoperability.

Why The Suggested Polkadot Rebranding Options Don't Work

This is a parallel universe where the world is dominated by another species: Cheese. Throughout the course of a few thousand years, this gastronomic delight has swiftly taken over the world. 

There are no records that showcase how cheese has become a cerebral, conscious being, but recent research points back to a group of cells mutating and coming together at the Coast of Dalmatia, 5000 years before the dying of Lord Cheezus. 

Ever since then, this intelligent being has evolved rapidly, from the times of Samurai Cheese Shibas battling each other for ownership of land to the downing age of unity where there was finally peace amongst all tribes in the land of Cheese. 

Fast forward to 2021 and we are in the centre of Cheeseburg, one of the most technologically advanced cities of this civilisation. Our protagonist is in a historical museum, admiring and examining one of the most powerful tools of our times: language. These calligraphic scriptures were found in caves and the legend has it that the alphabet originated from similar symbols. 

We follow a young Bree on his journey to fighting a new kind of evil: CheeseCorp. This corporation has taken over the world by seducing commoners into sharing their information in exchange for “connections” and “likes”. While society has developed, each individual hasn’t. # KodaDot Rebranding + Creative Vision

KodaDot has grown quite a bit in the past few months and in order to push the platform to a new level we have spent some time on a redesign. 

I've drafted up a quick version of a V2 logo in September. However, this has been done without extensive research. As of November, I have become heavily invested in the creative direction of KodaDot( you could say that I have creatively hijacked it), thus conducting design research based on the name, values and vision of the platform. This has resulted in our current [branding kit](https://www.figma.com/file/XEiqGUitNgIFE0AIgA6XAx/KodaDot_Design-Kit?node-id=40%3A107).  

## **Mission and Values**
KodaDot places an emphasis on decentralisation and creating technologies which will become public goods, available to all, hence why we wish to have interesting incentives that utilise the power of NFTs for funding specific projects such as scientific research. While this is not branding per say, it fits with the platforms' initial goals. 

KodaDot primarily acts as an explorer which helps the user easily locate what they are looking for. In the future we will be working on more automative features and data insights which aid the artist and collectors in finding each other. There are more details on what we wish to achieve with the platform, hence why we started putting cohesive branding together, which aligns with our aims of creating tools that empower the individual while building a unified community of likeminded people. 

# Logotype Icon Competition
We have initiated a [competition](https://medium.com/kodadot/kodadot-logotype-competition-1924ea717db3) where anyone can submit their design for our icon. While the solution for a larger logotype and overall visuals is done, we are missing an icon or symbol which will be applied to smaller sizes such as PFP for socials etc. In this case we opened this matter to the community as we would like others to helps build KodaDot.

KodaDot Rebranding + Creative Vision 

On a rocky planet filled with oceans, we see a peculiar, pink-ish civilisation arise. This is the **Po-Ku Planet**[(Kepler-62f)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler-62f#Habitability), a far away, inabitable and beautiful place. 

Unlike the human race, the Po-Ku People built different types of systems amongst them. Systems which reward those who contribute to society, where intelligence and humility surpasses ego and everyone plays a brick in the wall that is the Kusama blockchain. 

There have been many chaotic failures during the upbringing of Po-Ku People, but they’ve approached each part of their social structure with wisdom and empathy. Alongside them are nests of canaries which are grouped choirs. Both forms of life help each other to grow by exchainging knowledge. 

Recently humans have managed to build technology which will reach the beloved Po-Ku planet. Earth is being ripped to shreds by environmental catastrophe and wars caused by greed. The financial collapse has triggered a snowball effect which has resulted in terror nd destruction. Humans managed to inhabit Mars but its beauty is nowhere near the one Earth used to provide. While humans weep for Earth, they are targeting the Po-Ku planet as their next location.  Nobody knows what will happen. 

While Po-Ku People are highly advanced and aware of human existence and their arrival, nobody knows what to expect. Will the humans attack? Do they want peace? Should they explore an array of galaxies together and create unions with other life forms? The Po-Ku people are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. It is time to buckle up and expect chaos.

Po-Ku People Genesis Story

Story inspired by [the art of Luigi Lucarelli](https://singular.rmrk.app/collectibles/10340693-924cf81bb52a1b5c57-LUIGI-RMRK-0000000000000026).


It is 2143 and each hour is the same in Artificialis city. The world is in a strange place as it has been ripped to shreds by wars, famine and environmental damage. There are a few utopias that resemble Earth as it used to be, but we can primarily see humanity being reduced to a handful of highly technocratic cities where dictators have utilised algorithms to execute their greedy ambitions. 

Rachel is one of the inhabitants of the Artificialis city. She used to live a simple, yet fulfilled life before destruction started ripping Earth to shreds. Now she was living underground and fixing up mechanical parts for whoever was willing to pay the highest fee, as the government was after her due to her skills. Rachel had the capacity to fix and build any machine with ease, but instead of working for the government to help them fight other governments, she was helping bounty hunters and some blind believers which were supporting the resistance. Rachel didn’t care about the war, the resistance, or anything else. She just wanted to build her own spaceship and escape Earth, explore the universe and find a new planet to settle down in. 

It was a dull afternoon, Rachel was fixing up a prosthetic arm on a human called Matt. Matt was a bounty hunter and an anarcho-capitalist who sold weapons and robots in exchange for KSM. The government discovered his whereabouts and broke in his bunker. Matt managed to escape through the help of his colleagues and now he is being fixed up. 

Rachel: “I told you that you’ll get caught mate.” 
Matt: “Yeah well, it happens to the best, what can you do. One little slip and boom. Everything is gone” 
Rachel: “Could have done something way better with that brain of yours you know.” 
Matt: “Could have, would have, should have.”

Artificialis City 

Unlike all the other young cheeses, our protagonist Young Bree, has always had a bit of a rebellious spirit. While everyone was taking advantage of CheeseCorp, a corporation which aims to unite all cheeses in one net and hijack everyone’s data, this frustrated delinquent has struck on a path of her own. 

It was a casual Friday afternoon, the sun was shining in Cheeseburg, the most advanced city in the world. On the edges of town we see 10 facilities lined up, this is the Cheese Army, where tough and young spirits train in order to join the elite secret force that defends the CheeseVerse™. There is a racket:  

*“I am not going to use CheeseRift to join CheeseCorp! You can go F yourselves! We don’t follow the great masters such as the ancient Cheese Shibas, you only want these fake lives and tools which have nothing to do with reality! I bloody quit!”* 

Young Bree stumbles outside of the doors of the training facility and runs in a rush towards the centre of the city. The stream of thoughts starts: 

*“What is wrong with this world? I don’t want to live in this system that forces me to submit to corporations, brainwashing institutions and feudal lands of the primitive digital world ruled by monopolies. I am done with this shit.”*

Young Bree decides to visit the Natural Cheese Museum to wind down. There were all kinds of things to see, the extinct cheesesaurs, paintings and portraits of old leaders, religious images of Cheezus who sacrificed himself for us all, or at least that’s what some cheeses believed in. 

But there was one particular room which Young Bree loved. The one with ancient cheeseligraphy scriptures. Young Bree sits down in front of a large scale scripture which dominated the room. 

*“We need to strip down life for what it truly is: living in the present. All these technological advances prevent us from achieving peace within ourselves and ultimately the universe. We think that a piece of small cheese is at the centre of existence. How arrogant! I can’t go back to the academy anymore, it’s killing my soul! All I wanted was to protect all cheeses, but I just ended up as an instrument of the bloody corporations, not even the governments! Governments should be afraid of their people, and corporations even more, as they have turned the people into products. This needs to end. But how do I do it on my own, what is the solution?”* 

Young Bree looks up at the scriptures and empties her mind, looking closer at every detail, getting lost in each brush stroke and then it hits her: 

*“Language! Communication! This is it! If we can make people understand each other and join forces together, we can do it! We can change the world.”* 

And so Young Bree started to conspire so she could inspire.

CheeseVerse™ Chapter 2 + Young Bree Drop! 

Today we are going to unpack the gig economy and why the MetaPrime/KodaDot team decided to hire individuals on this basis. 

Let’s start with the definitions [(Source)](https://www.fieldengineer.com/blogs/traditional-employment-vs-gig-economy):

* **Traditional Economy** - in a traditional economy, people become employed by a company to carry out work for that one company in particular. They generally work nine to five hours (or thereabouts). This offers employees stability and allows them to concentrate solely on tasks benefiting the company they’re contracted to work for on an ongoing basis. 

* **Gig Economy** - a simple definition of the gig economy is “a labour market characterised by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work”, as opposed to the more permanent jobs outlined above.

We believe that each person should deal with tasks in their own time in order to build a healthy work-life experience in the long run. In this manner, the “bounty hunter” can fully focus on the tasks at hand. If this working relationship is proven to be reliable, then we eliminate the requirement for managerial roles, thus basing the work relationship primarily on trust. This also eliminates “renting someone’s time” in a way that it might be wasted. 

We all worked in “9-5” jobs and there was probably a time when you had absolutely nothing to do. Maybe you waiting on the designer to hand down the drafts, perhaps the marketing department was late with the brief. On the other hand, you also probably worked in office jobs where overtime was not paid well or at all.

- easily approachable, therefore distracted

**What are the benefits of taking up gigs as you go, especially in blockchain land?** 

- No travelling (less expenses, more efficiency) 
- You are free to set your own work hours 
- Able to ask for bonuses in case of overtimes 
- Engaging with new collaborators all over the world
- Getting new gigs through the community  

**Alright, everything has its good and bad sides, let’s go through these for the gig economy:** 

- **Overworking |** You might get taken away with projects and end up working more than you should 

- **Inconsistency  |** As you are your own boss, you also need to keep hunting for bounties if you are not tied to a specific project 

- **Habits |** This is a double edged sword. While you are free to set your own time, you can loose the habits gained from full time employment, such as consistent waking/sleeping hours 

- **Dealing with boring stuff |** Such as invoices, taxes, calendars and payment delays

- **Dealing with different timezones and cultures |** Sleep deprivation, adjusting, understanding, learning

**So why do KodaDot and MetaPrime opt for the Gig Economy?**

The Gig Economy 

I am very torn to say that our RMRK event at Blacks Club London is being postponed due to high numbers of COVID-19 cases in the UK. This is very disappointing as quite a few members from the DotSama community were about to attend, including members of Chaos DAO, as well as individuals involved with other chains and Blacks Club members.  

Even though this comes as very sad news, there are some other exciting things to come. I personally wouldn’t like to commit to any promises, but a few conversations were sparked with 2 Mayfair venues about hosting an NFT exhibition and talks. In an ideal scenario this would run for a week or month, and we’d get to introduce a whole range of individuals to the world that is DotSama, not just NFTs… and wouldn’t it have been a shame to have such a high interest in the event and no artworks on the walls? Indeed it would.

Cancellation of the Polkadot&Friends x RMRK event 

At the top of a glass building, overseeing a 1000 square meter office we find a shady figure sitting behind a quirky desk. What is the best way to cover the intensions of a self serving company? Make everyone believe that you are building products for the greater good. Hence the quirky desk. In the land of Cheese nobody knows this ones name, but he is labeled as “The Owner”.

The Owner is currently on a call with the conservative party of the United Cheesedom. Their PR company has set aside the highest budget for utilising the capabilities of CheeseCorp. Such meetings are highly important as they bring high revenue streams to and act as a testing ground for other services, this bringing in more clients who wish to do the same: destabilise countries. In order to rebuild society, you must break it first. 

“It’s all what you believe in” says the Owner 
“Indeed. Reality is very much a social construct that we aim to build our way. Once we win the election, the next milestone is to work tightly with you chaps in order to monitor every cheese in the country”, stated Lord Cheddar. 
“You never know when they can become hostile, or god forbid form a different political party” claims the Owner. 
“Secrets are only for us, not for them”, concluded Lord Cheddar. 
“Very much so. My apologies sir, but I will have to shoot to another meeting”. 
“No need to apologies Owner, this is good for us, our accounting team will be in touch over the week. Have a good one”
“And you sir” the Owner hangs up and stands. 

As he walks, we hear the clicking of chains followed by a painful cry. A canary that gave up hope sits on the Owner’s left shoulder tied to a chest plate. Groomed hair and beard are no surprise to see on our narcissistic antagonist. This terrifying cheese steps into the light and turns around. Even though his height and muscles intimidate, it is his cold, soulless and empty eyes the petrify the strongest of heroes as they are incapable of reading his intentions. 

The Owner walks to the window and grins : “So it begins”.

CheeseVerse™ Chapter 3: The Owner 

In a crisp white underground facility, we go beyond a heavy, sturdy titanium door. Within the premises is a highly advanced technological laboratory. On the right hand side there are test tubes and liquids, whilst on the left we see tens of monitors and servers, pieces of robotic instruments, broken test subjects, chips and other metallic scrap parts. In the middle there is a window revealing an insight into a dim room. There are flashing lights beaming from inside, and screeching sounds which make your skin shiver even from a distance. However, the most terrifying sight are a pair of glowing green eyes. The mix of terror, confusion and pure anger is radiating from within them. 

A couple of Ementalers are looking through the window, dressed in white lab coats. The holes on these cheeses originate from failed experiments which exploded in their proximity. 

Ementaler 1: “Ugh. He is at it again, we need to upgrade the firmware in the chip.” 

Ementaler 2: “ Yes, I will get on it. Why is he so annoying? Can’t he just do what he was created for?” 

Ementaler 1: “Would you be obedient in his position?” 

Ementaler 2: “Probably, my purpose is to do what is best for the future of Cheese civilisation. Everyone just looks at their personal interests instead of that of the community. Individuals do not know what’s best for them, only a unified society can dictate what is optimal for the individual.” 

Ementaler 1: “Whatever. I’ll work on the firmware updates, hopefully this lasts for longer and I can chill for a bit.” 

Emmentaler 2: “I will zap him as he needs to know that this behaviour is not acceptable.” 

Ementaler 1: “You give me the creeps mate.”

Ementaler 2: “What a compliment!” 

As Ementaler 1 went away from the window, Ementaler 2 presses a button which causes the entity behind the glass to exude painful and angry sounds as his body gets electrocuted through a brain implant. As it stumbles closer towards the window, we see a large, powerful figure, that looks like a large ape. There are tubes coming from this beasts’ chest, connected to his brain, pumping green liquid through its body. The ape takes a swing at the shock proof glass and exudes one last cry before it collapses on the floor and shuts its eyes.

The CheeseVerse™ Chapter 4: Subject 69420

It’s time to kick of the year with an update from the DotSama Experience. Dive in and find out what we’ve been up to in the past couple of months :D.

## Architecture
As some of you might know, One Raw Artist jumped on board the team to supercharge our museum design. The new architecture is more than just a fitting representation of what Polkadot and Kusama are. It is a symbol of the futuristic and innovative nature which describes the entire DotSama ecosystem. One Raw Artist has exceeded everyone’s expectations. At the moment, we are working on the interior design, exhibit layouts and such, looking forward to completing our space and welcoming everyone to the mothership that is the DotSama Experience.

We have decided to launch on NeosVR. We feel that their platform is well suited for the experience that we are trying to achieve but at the same time, we will also be releasing a version on Mozilla Hubs. This guarantees that anyone can visit regardless of device, operating system or lack of a head mounted unit.


## Launch Date
Our launch date will be April 1st. Unfortunately, this has been pushed back as our video production team has been affected by a certain global situation. Without getting into personal details, we mobilized a secondary plan with built-in backup to mitigate this happening again in the future. While we lost a considerable amount of time, we're still laser focused. Obstacles are challenges. Not problems. And we don't have a problem ;)

# Why donate to the Defenders Fund? 


It has come to my knowledge that many people are reluctant to donate to the Defenders Fund in the Ukraine (personal contacts ratio cca 1:12). 

For the purpose of helping out those on the frontlines, XyloDrone and Supercolony are releasing the collection “Catharsis”(each nft contains "Catharsis" from [R E U S E](https://xylo-drone.com/r-e-u-s-e) and the track "Falling out of Love". All donations go to the [Defenders Fund](https://sub.id/#/5HZCud48u7RL6WNzfG4HbVw7BbouWvQska3E6Yr7h7ajJiY6) wallet, while the artist retains 5% royalties of further resales, 5% will keep going into the fund. 

This article aims to encourage the opposite by providing evidence on the importance of these donations. 

The majority of people which I’ve spoken to said that they are against all war. This is completely understandable, probably most people are against any form of violence. However, when peace is attacked by a group of individuals which have a thirst for power who aim to claim this power with violence then the only way to prevent this is to fight back.

It is very clear that help for civilians and refugees is a must, however, let me provide a little bit of information how donations to the defenders or volunteers fund would result in less casualties than what we’ve witnessed so far. 

# 1. The Ukraine defenders don’t need more people, they need guns 
[According to Fox News](https://www.foxnews.com/world/ukraine-military-turns-volunteers-away-as-140k-ukrainians-come-home-to-fight-russia), the defenders aren’t in the need of people, they are in the need of weapons. 

*"I can't join, because I was specifically told ‘no room,’" Savchuk said. "We are yelling for more weapons because we can't put more people on the front line. Please give us more weapons, so that all of us can fight."*

If there are no weapons, there will be more victims, including Ukrainian and international volunteers coming to help. 

# 2. You’re not supporting violence, you are supporting peace through self-defence 

There was a tweet which described a Ukrainian soldier pulling men out of cars to go and fight in the war. Apparently, they were very rude and aggressive towards these men. Just a little reminder that an individual or a small group of them does not represent a country, nor its people, the same goes for the Ukrainian army and defenders. # 3. If Ukraine falls, we will (probably) see terrifying political changes

There are very similar echoes of the past linked to current political affairs, this is very evident in the [use of the letter “z”](https://edition.cnn.com/2022/03/07/europe/russia-z-symbol-ukraine-war-cmd-intl/index.html) from the Russian side. Another similarity is the one linked to the Balkan Wars: 

*The liberation-from-Nazis rhetoric of both Milosević and Putin are direct precedents for mass war crimes and terror against the civilian population at large. What is scarier in the case of Ukraine is the sheer scale of terror that will be employed in many more cities.*

While it is undoubtably important to help refugees and civilians, it is the defenders and international political affairs which will play a great role in preventing the past from happening again. 

# 4. The Russian army is far better equipped than the Ukrainian 

although the Ukrainian army has more modern weapons, they are largely outnumbered and outgunned. 


**How big is Russia’s military?**
Russia has more than 1 million active-duty personnel, more than four times Ukraine's force strength. Russia also has 378,000 reserve personnel and 250,000 paramilitary troops that it could call up in a conflict with its neighbor.

**Who has the most weapons?**
Russia, hands down.
In terms of land power, Russia prevails, with more than 12,000 tanks (compared with 2,500 for Ukraine), 30,000 armored vehicles (Ukraine has 12,000) and 12,000 self-propelled artillery (Ukraine has a little more than 1,000).

Russia also dominates in air power, with more than 700 fighter aircraft (compared with about 70 for Ukraine), more than 700 attack aircraft (Ukraine has fewer than 30), more than 500 attack helicopters (Ukraine has 34) and 1,500 helicopters (Ukraine has a little more than 100).

At sea, Russia rules with 15 destroyers, 70 submarines, 11 frigates and nearly 50 mine warfare vessels. Ukraine has no destroyers or submarines, just one frigate and one mine warfare vessel.

Violence is wrong in every possible way, but stepping up to bullies and using self defence is a different story, we should donate to the Defenders fund because it will prevent further casualties from happening.

Before I start dropping tunes with Chaos Collective, I’d like to address the steps we need to take to make any blockchain welcoming to music creators and collectors so that we can go down this path within DotSama. Any chain has the potential to get to this point, so let’s group up and do it.

## **1\. The consumption of music**

This is the elephant in the room that must be addressed. We will see collectors making purchases of music across multiple NFT platforms and chains. How does one listen and organise these tracks?

**Solution 1:**

Yang Wao @ AmsterDot suggested a great solution: a plug-in within a wallet. If a variety of NFT platforms adapted this plug in, the owners of the NFTs could sort these in playlists and libraries within the dApps and also listen to them on the fly through mobile.

**Solution 2:**

An NFT aggregator with a custom UI on a platform such as Subsocial, where the user can do the same as the above and showcase their collections within the platform, as well as make playlists and libraries.

We need to create platforms and music which will be used within these contexts through IP and sharing rights, as this could easily generate passive income for musicians and obviously attract more creators to the ecosystem.

Additionally, music releases can be used to fund films, stories, games etc which can be created later on, as sound gives a very good representation of emotion, direction and experience, thus resulting in the collectors deeper relation and understanding of what their investment would help bring into the world.

## **3\. We need to stop forcing artists to make roadmaps. We need art x business duos and/or platforms which facilitate this.**

We religiously create collections which are meant to flip and do a 10x. Within this process the importance of quality of art becomes substituted for what its value is. Let’s make no mistake here, 90% of art within the NFT space is underwhelming. If we want to really engage the public and bring great talent which would set the DotSama eco on the map for art and culture, we need to do better than this. We need to nurture talent by:

\- making minting easily accessible through UX/UI

\- promoting the right talent and not just high volume collections which are driven by hype and/or wash trading

\- help connect talent with devs and business oriented individuals so they can learn and grow together

\- build platforms which facilitate the above

\- have patronage programs for artists which gives them independence and the ability to create without strings attached

Never forget that art has something special within it and it must stay independent in order to flourish.

We must welcome a wide variety of genres and build platforms which enable easy ways to upload and search for music. Are you looking for a jazzy track that comes with a vinyl? Maybe just some stems for your next song? There should be an aggregator platform which facilitates all of these. Additionally, the “search” for music could be gamified and turned into a proper adventure, rather than be an endless scroll of death.

With platforms like Invarch, we can easily break all of our tracks into stems that can be taken and re-used in other NFTs and songs, tools, motion. However, we would still need a UI through which this can be easily done, otherwise it isn’t going to work. Every single thing we do needs to be far more automated and easy for non-crypto users.

What if we could press buttons labeled with names of emotions and a dApp spits these types of tracks out? You know [DALL-E-2](https://openai.com/dall-e-2/), right? Well, imagine if you could type text and the algorithm spits out music or loops which you can compose together. I am not arguing here that algorithms should replace the traditional creation of music, it is nearly a different way of making tracks, and sometimes people just want to make them on the go or have fun, get their ideas out asap (this is dangerous but I believe it is the way that we are heading in: tools which enable us to easily spit out our ideas from our brains are the holy grail of creation). So how do we make non-musicians understand music, its value and the enjoyment the process of creation brings? By building tooling for both musicians and non-musicians. We’ve always had a barrier to entry for, erm, everything within the arts. Technology can break those barriers down, especially if we reward users for learning about music creation and create economies around it.

I believe that music should be accessible to everyone. On that note, we became very spoilt when it comes to music availability. Streaming platforms allow us to listen to music at anytime anywhere, and while this is great, the [income of those that make music is not.](https://dittomusic.com/en/blog/how-much-do-music-streaming-services-pay-musicians/)

However, I still think we need to collaborate with streaming platform and more importantly, 3rd party distributors such as [Tune Core](https://www.tunecore.com/)(eg the owners of the NFTs can vote if the track will also be on Spotify). I believe musicians should have the right to release their music on all streaming platforms and the NFTs are an extra collectible which has its own purpose and existence within a different realm.

RMRK NFTs enable a lot of possibilities, this can be applied to music NFTs as well. I won’t talk too much on this matter as in the next few months you’ll see this utility being applied within my drops. What I will say is that equippable and multi-resource NFTs allow us to create interconnected universes. This might just be music within a game or an additional resource which serves as a ticket for events and so on.

Based on the above we can conclude that every single blockchain ecosystem needs to work hard on creating a welcoming environment for musicians and collectors of their NFTs. Whilst innovation should be prioritised, we must not forget about simplicity and intuition. The key to creating this environment is slick UX and accessibility in order to harness creativity. ## **Blockchain Development**

**Storage** 

Phala allows team to opt in either for centralized or decentralized storage using offchain queries. In Ordum we are exploring for both of them as we analyse pros and cons. For centralized databases we are currently exploring Firestore and Mongo Db.

Centralized storage candidate is Crust. Things which will be stored will be but not limited to Completion Certificates, User applications and Miscellaneous data.

Challenges for storage

\- We do care about ownership of user data as to why we are thinking of decentralized databes but the bottleneck is for us to deliver within the time and to test the product to the user we are much better to use centralized databases.

\- Long term aim is to have data portability as the Certificates acquired should and must be controlled by their owners.

ORDUM-CLI and contracts

We aim to build a simple command-line application for terminal lovers, as this will enable teams to view and apply relevant grants without living the workspace (i.e terminal). 

 Challenges faced while building

\- Subxt doesnt work well with Phat contract

\- Sumbitting Phat queries (offchain functions for phala) from the client is still cumbersome as lack of proper documentation

**What we have done so far**

* Phat contract with creation and managing of user profiles
* Application functionality for grants
* Storage design in progress

**Subsquid**

We aim to use Subquid chain indexers for the Phat contract's front end.

## **Front End R&D**

Tech stack research - part of it are still ongoing

* Will use React, because it’s requirements(node.js) and builds are supported by every major CI/CD out there, plus it’s what most of the team member are familiar with JavaScript.
* Hosting on landing provider for the moment ([Netlify.com](http://Netlify.com)), to avoid complications for the time being and as a bonus - it’s free for our needs and very fast.
* Database Management System - since all technical have familiarity with NoSQL database systems and so far it seems, that we will save most our data in JSON format, we plan to have for MongoDB (<https://www.mongodb.com/>)
* Data storage - ongoing research. We plan on using Curst (<https://crust.network/>) as a decentralised service provider, but we will need to run tests and figure out potential costs (gas fees and long term support). If not, we will stick with MongoDB, hosted on Netfily, until we find a better alternative.

Researching on Subsquid - ongoing research

* Currently going trough the docs and building a small POC with indexers, that will simulate a potential workflow.

**KILT - ongoing**

* Researching potential uses for authentication with KILT.
* Actually implementing it (working on a small POC, before integration to the main project).
