### General Info

Decentralized exchange is expensive, prohibitive and unfair. Mangata mission is to tackle these problems.
Tokens that will be used are $MGA for Polkadot and $MGX for Kusama. There is no trading at the moment. With 1.8k+ members in TG and 3.3k followers in Twitter the project is kinda under the radar (for now), while there is no WP at this moment nor a full-detailed roadmap.

Gas fees are high and Flashbots auctions are capturing the slippage of DeFi users, resulting in users moving to private mempools. Also while ETH moving to PoS, another question is crucial: Stake or DeFi? 
PoS is removing liquidity but DeFi needs it!

### What is Mangata?

Easy and secure DEX for Ethereum and Polkadot that will be connected to Polkadot as a parachain.
> We believe the long-term success of a DEX is determined by becoming the most capital-efficient DEX.

The three main pillars of the DEX-chain:
1. A No Gas Economy: There are no gas fees for transactions. You only pay 0.3% exchange commission.
2. Prevent Front-Running and MEV (where bots and nodes are stealing value from traders; this is commonplace in Ethereum). They prevent this with [Themis protocol](https://blog.mangata.finance/blog/2021-10-10-themis-protocol/)
3.  Proof of Liquidity: Stake once, earn twice.With Mangata, you don't have to choose between staking and liquidity provision. Instead, on Mangata you stake LP tokens and let your capital generate trading fees in the meantime.

### Capital efficiency and PoL

Capital Efficiency is the relationship between how much someone is spending to grow revenue and how much they are getting in return. Less gas fees to perform a transaction, less slippage when swapping tokens, less transactions to achieve what you want, mean more capital efficiency...
A protocol is said to be capital efficient if it has little friction, little overhead costs and provides the most value for the capital invested.

**Paying less to get more will be THE key driving factor to decide which DEXes are the most successful.**

So with PoL: 
Instead of a single asset, you stake LP tokens: Instead of just staking the native token like in other networks, you first obtain liquidity pool (LP) 
 All staking assets are paired against MGA: Every asset is paired against MGA to create stakeable LP tokens
 Staking LP tokens keeps the corresponding pools liquid: LP tokens are staked with nodes and will automatically be used in the corresponding liquidity pool
Security: only assets whitelisted by governance will be allowed as Proof-of-Liquidity base assets.  Stake once, earn twice: Rewards are much more attractive. As users can be stakers and liquidity providers at the same time, they will profit from block rewards AND trading fees.

>  A Crowdloan is basically paying the rent for security and access to the Kusama network. Currently slot prices are <50k KSM, equalling about 15m USD. If a chain does not self-fund but asks for a crowdloan, network users expect at least the opportunity cost of 15% Kusama staking rewards in exchange. Currently they expect quite a bit more as many projects are offering pretty cheap tokens for the value they are actually providing. Effectively some projects are outbidding themselves at how cheap they can give away their tokens.

So will all projects be successful? NO! Some will suceed, some will die. In 1-2 years, the situation will be different, as we will know much more precisely what actually contributes best to a successful project and what not. Long term play...

- Hello Tommi! Me, WagMedia and PolkaHaus are honoured to have you explain what Mangata is all about. A little background of your work, how u got involved with mangata and why to be bullish on the team?
They seem honest, with vision but not made any big companies as back round.

> I have a background as CTO for a medium size organization. My previous organization was very volunteer-driven and so we always had a heavy focus on communication-driven technology like websites, newsletter, content marketing etc. I became more involved in Polkadot and especially Kusama when I started running a validator node for Kusama in April 2021 and then started to create explainer videos and news for Kusama and Polkadot.
> I got involved with Mangata when co-founder Peter Kris reached out to me. He has seen my video and wanted someone for Mangata who could explain the complex tech in easy terms, who could build a community and create more public exposure for Mangata.
> I decided to become part of Mangata because Mangata is solving a very specific and important problem that affects DeFi: Capital Efficiency. Capital Efficiency is when you spend less to get more. In the current state of DeFi, virtually all blockchains ask for Gas on top of transaction fees while at the same time front-running bots and nodes steal your slippage when you trade. > The Kusama and Polkadot have two different demographics. This is not even about "institutional" vs "retail". This is about innovation and risk taking vs. consolidation and stability. Both sets of values have their merit and different investors have different investment profiles.
The Kusama network speaks to innovators and risk takers. The community consists of people who are actively seeking out new opportunities, taking on risks, making their bets, getting involved and driving technology forward. They embrace the chaos that can be accompanied by cutting-edge technology. We want to provide them with Mangata X, a platform that offers new tokens from innovative protocols and that listens to their suggestions on new features. The community should also have a choice on which tokens the network incentivices for liquidity mining. 
The Polkadot network offers stability and a more conservative approach. It offers a more streamlined experience and features that have been battle-tested already.
You maybe can think of it like Mangata for Polkadot and Mangata X being the Pro version for Kusama.
I don't believe that having the same token for both networks is beneficial. The different communities will have different risk profiles and I expect them to show this through the choice of liquidity mining incentives paid to liquidity pools. If the Mangata X community decides to support the newest DeFi 2.0 token liquidity pools, they should have the freedom to do so without too much coordination requirements with the Mangata community on Polkadot.

- Several detailed posts in discord, tackled tokenomics behind mangataX but let's be honest, community will find 3% for crowdloans a bit small. Are there any plans to change anything regarding MGX distribution?

> If you only do a surface analyis of tokenomics by looking at a single number, you might come to that conclusion. If you do the work of an actual investor, dyor, dig deeper and run the numbers, I am certain you will find Mangata X to have a very good value proposition. Allow me to give you the exec summary:
> - We are not only building a DEX, we are building a community-owned DEX of intelligent and active investors who build a shared mental model on how to solve the big problems of DeFi. Mangata X is for Pros: We are not for the "spray and pray" type of investor, but for people who actively manage their portfolio to maximize returns.
> - MGX Tokenomics are designed to actively guide progressive decentralization over a period of 5 years. Within 2-3 years more than 50% of tokens will be in the hand of the community. This means that we cannot give out excessive amounts of tokens in the beginning to please crowdloaners and hope everything turns out well. Instead we want to provide incentives along that path that make sure Mangata wins in the long-term also.
> - 80% of the final supply of MGX tokens are reserved as community incentives.

Additionally, slot auction prices have gone way down in recent months and we actively monitor prices. By setting a low cap, relative rewards will be sufficiently high to ensure that even on a 1-year time horizon a decent ROI can be expected. Everyone can and should run the numbers themselves and we are happy to discuss this on Discord and provide the proper frameworks to run the numbers

- Mangata/composable collaboration. Do you guys intent to use the vault parachain strategy? Any other partnerships/talks with other dotsama teams?

> We built some relationships with other teams and are in the process of reaching out to more teams. Most of it is behind the scenes at the moment. We have seen some new relationships being established by inviting teams to our Mangata Monday call where we get experts onto our weekly community event to discuss and learn from each other. The latest one was with RomeDAO where we discussed how DEX-owned liquidity could work out. I have talked with MarmiteToast from Composable to set up a call in the next weeks. We aim to have special guests more often!

- Recently you made a  proposition to kusama treasury for 10mil ksm/eth liquidity. Any news regarding this?

> We got some feedback from different people that they value the trustless approach we are taking: We are not asking for KSM to be handed over to us, but rather that Kusama governance itself aquires and deploys 10m USD worth of KSM-ETH liquidity on Mangata X. This would be a complete novelty in our space and there are still some technical hurdles that need to be overcome together, the most important one being that we finally get a working ecosystem bridge between Kusama and Ethereum that allows capital to flow freely between both ecosystems. We know that Kusama Governance has it on the agenda and are optimistic that we will make this happen together. Composable created a similar proposal so we might also collaborate on drafting a common framework for Kusama Treasury to support DeFi in the Kusama ecosystem.

-  [Testnet](https://app.mangata.finance/) is currently live. Is the community incentivized to test things out? when we could expect the mangataX auction to start?

> We want to join the Kusama Crowdloan Batch starting in February. We are valuing actual feedback but don't want to incentivize people trying to "game" any potential airdrops. We will try to reward honest participation but don't want to make guarantees that might lead to hard feelings. If you like Mangata, come, be part of the journey and see how the ecosystem development fund will unfold.

- Thank you! Anything last you willing to share with the Dotsama community?

> We think for a next-generation DEX that wants to win the endgame, innovation doesn't end at the network launch. It actually starts during the launch of the network. We envision Governance that is a lot more active. A community that discusses policy and drives new initiatives that are then incentivised by governance. DeFi moves fast and a chain needs to adapt to new tech, new reward schemes and new challenges. Early participation is important and we are keeping a list of people who contributed meaningful suggestions that help es expand our mental model.
A few problems we are currently trying to solve:
> - We think we found a way to have on-chain limit orders that work together with AMMs. We are currently investigating this.
> - **We are thinking about way to have DEX-owned liquidity. Treasury could aquire by simple governance action and it could create deeper liquidity pools on important pairs.**
> - We will need people to participate in governance and solve early problems with us. In my opinion, Treasury should tip good proposals and active community members, similar to how Olympus is paying contributors.

What is Mangata, who is behind it and why $MGA $MGX

### Problems with Eth as smart contract platform:
-fees
-speed (scalability)
-network congestion

Dot as Layer 0 doesn’t support smart contracts
 Parachains on top of Dot as Layer 1 solutions will do support each with their own unique way. Targets are lower fees, faster than eth and interaction with other chains.
The 3 main players that focus on delivering smart contracts on top of Dot are Moonbeam, Acala and Astar (ex Plasm)

As Eth is the king regarding the amount of devs working on their platform, basically these 3 teams will have to attract a lot of them, meaning quality dapps, meaning more users, meaning more devs.


### Moonbeam:

Moonbeam in simple words is an Eth mirror on Polkadot

- EVM Support (the standard virtual machine used for eth)
- Full compatible with Eth

On moonbeam, developers work and deploy existing smart contracts (created by Solidity, Eth program lang) directly into Moonbeam (and eventually into Dot mother chain).
For this to happen, an extra layer developed, called Frontier which basically allows substrate based chains to run eth contracts.
All in all, Metamask can be used as usual (by picking moonbeam chain), dapps can be run on moonbeam as they would be in eth, and the native token (glimmer) has the same functions as eth (gas,fees etc). 

### Astar:

Astar, ex-Plasm, is the Dapp Hub on Polkadot.

- EVM support
- Wasm support ( innovative virtual machine, smart contracts better performance and scalability + higher level languages vs EVM)
- Layer 2 support
- ZK plonk ( pallet for devs to use it on substrate. Privacy+ scalability)
- Dapp staking
Astar will also use Frontier (EVM) but also will support WASM and a virtual machine called OVM to be used to enhance layer 2 protocols. Developers will be incentivized by a mechanism called dapp staking with 50% of rewards going into the developer of the dapp.

### Acala:

Acala is the Defi Hib on Polkadot

 -EVM support 
-Innovates through substrate 

EVM is still supported but as a part of Acala not as a new different experience which their team will adopt. This new solution is called Bodhi and wraps dot extension into another extension similar to metamask. Eth dapps will be used with dot extension to interact with acala EVM.
Tl dr: acala uses a part of eth EVM and a part of their homegrown solution, mix them, retaining both eth compatibility and substrate advantages.

New features including, users pay fees with any supported token, fully upgradable (no contracts migration), on chain governance etc..

On the other hand, while Moonbeam takes contract as it is, the acala model requires some code adjustments from eth smart contract into acala.


### Conclusion

Q: So, who will win in the long term? Who will capture the most shares in the trillions of dollars space? Which one will be the best layer 1 blockchain and smart contract platform in Polkadot?

A: Most of parachains are collaborating with each other. Having said that, it’s a competitive space and the “dev hunting” is crucial of these platforms. Moonbeam looks like the one with most pumpamentals short term, since the mirroring of eth incetivizes devs to come and deploy quality projects as well as meme tokens within few minutes.
 Astar is the most tech heavy of the 3 imho, meaning the work that they will put in, may never pay off in value, due to be not retail friendly. Fundamentals aren’t clear since I haven’t looked at them in detail. Dapp staking will attract devs.
Acala, might be also not the most friendly for new users, (defi), but they build something unique and the barrier they set for devs to entry, might cause an avalance of innovation in the decentralized finance sector.

### General Info

[Talisman](https://app.talisman.xyz/portfolio) mission is to create the best UX/UI, community owned, wallet on Dotsama space (and beyond). Currently, the web app is live and the web extension is in Alpha, tested thoroughly by [Talisman Key](https://singular.rmrk.app/collections/b6e98494bff52d3b1e-SPIRIT) holders. Early days for the project from Australia, with 3.3k Twitter followers and ~2k Discord members. Github seems busy (im not a tech guy in any way), 2022 should be a great year for them.

### Problems

When an investor is introduced to Polkadot/Kusama ecosystem, he faces one (big for many) problem: [Polkadot.js](https://polkadot.js.org/).  Used for storage, crowdloaning, voting, running a node etc.. and its a great developer tool for sure, but not for the crowd, not for regular users. Simply put, not a very good consumer product.
Polkadot-JS app is the most used decentralized interface for interacting with the Polkadot ecosystem but it has been built with developers in mind. So the newcomers have to put in the time to figure out how the wallet works or in the worst case, they walk away.
As for other projects that currently developing, most  have an allegiance to one parachain project or another. In most cases, these wallets and interfaces are built by the parachain teams themselves, which presents a conflict of interest.

### What is Talisman?

A *Multichain,robust,community owned,* wallet intented as extension for Polkadot and Kusama, focusing on the problem of building crosschain wallet for better user experience. It allows users to take control of their crypto assets, leverage novel use cases and help shape the future of the project via a social layer.
Talisman is fully committed to building the wallet that will aid progress and catalyze **composability** in the DotSama ecosystem. Just as powerful as Polkadot-JS, perfect for a variety of use cases across a variety of parachains.
Also, it explores what is useful for developers. 

> We are extending the polka JS API to give the developers some context of users balances. We are enabling some customization by the devs of transaction experience.

Two main components:
- **Web App:** This is your interface which someone will manage his assets. Intended to be robust and you could think of it like online banking. 
- **Web extension**: This will be your day to day transaction slick and simple interface and you could think of it like Apple Pay.
Regarding extension, it will enable users to understand their assets in context, transaction history, liquidity they’re providing ,battletest the API. Participate in emerging DotSama DeFi activities like:

### Challenges And Dotsama

 First point here is data availability problem. How to understand my users balances (as an app) if their balances are in hundreds of parachains? how to create that without a giant centralized system to manage that?

Secondly, "Diverse systems". Think of Subsocial and how many Subsocial like apps will emerge and eventually their social tokens. Think of BitCountry with their Metaverses and future community owned tokens. Think of Dotsama Defi... Displaying all those assets is a key point for Talisman success.

Noone knows what Talisman needs to be yet. Its a journey to Paraverse (Parachains ecosystem).
> We want to make it easier for web application developers to leverage Polkadot and its Parachains to improve composability.

-In your opinion, why Parity hasnt released any funds in order to make a better UI/UX polkadot.js ?  Is dotsama THAT developer oriented and basically they dont care?

> Parity have a lot of hard problems to solve, and up until now Polkadot.JS has been *good enough*. My understanding is that culturally parity doesn’t have much interest in product development, they are hardcore technology builders who are doing 0th principle thinking and bringing entirely new solutions to life.  It’s up to community members like us to productise and apply their work.

-Whats the true purpose of Spirit Keys? can you share any more details for any future utility?

> The spirit keys will be very soon used to permission access to our discord server, so that we can build a close relationship with our early adopters and ensure their feedback makes it into Talisman.

-Talisman raised 2.3 mil for developing the wallet. Are you satisfied with the amount raised and do you think that its a sufficient amount for the coming years?

> The Talisman team is quite small, only 9 currently. So we have enough capital for a while, however we intend to double the size of the team in 2022 and that will cut our runway in half. We may go looking for capital from the community, the treasury or start gaining revenue this year.

-You guys have some of the best artwork around. Who is behind it? Is there some kind of story and maybe potential NFT’s in the works?

# A Parachain as a service..

### General Info

Gear is a new Layer 1 smart contracts platform, currently in testnet, which aims to become a parachain in both Polkadot and Kusama. While their mission is not clear, 
> Our ultimate goal is to make the Gear platform perform better than any Layer 1 solution, and at the same time it must be secure, decentralized, and provide an entry point for the entire Polkadot ecosystem.

is the closest i could get. As for the title “ A parachain as a service” , it means that small projects (Layer 2 Dapps) can deploy on Gear without spending valuable resources. 
Around 6k followers in Twitter, no TG, with monthly development updates in Medium and a small Discord room mostly for tech stuff. 
So, social media awareness is very low, no hype which is good and due to the fact that no information is out about tokenomics, means we are early here. Not VC early, but early.

### What Is Gear? Which Problem It solves?

Gear is an advanced ***WASM based smart contract platform***, aiming to be a Polkadot and Kusama parachain, intended to be a tool for hosting Layer-2 smart contracts,  that enables developers to deploy their dApps in under 5 minutes in the easiest and most efficient way possible.
Gear’s platform will enable developers to build dApps on both Polkadot and Kusama, to take advantage of the benefits of their respective ecosystems, without the significant financial and time expenses developers have dealt with traditionally. 
The problem they are trying to solve is the lack of easy entry in Polkadot / Kusama ecosysstem. To become a parachain, you need a lot of resources – both financial and development. The difficulty is an extremely high entry cost, as alot of projects are competing against each other to win one of a limited number of slots. On top of that deploying as a parachain can be very time consuming, and in some cases it can even take up to a year..
The main engine of the Gear network is its smart contract module. Wi all smart contracts are WebAssembly programs that can be compiled in the developers’ programming language of choice such as Rust, C, C++ and many more. It ensures very minimal, intuitive and sufficient API for running both newly written and existing programs on multiple networks without having to rewrite them. Smart contracts are stored in the blockchain’s state and are invoked, preserving their state upon request. 
As a result, Gear provides a low barrier of entry for developers who are new to blockchain, and makes it much easier to experiment creatively with smart contracts.
Smart contract architecture uses the actor model under the hood, and provides:

-Persistent memory for immutable programs
-Asynchronous message handling
-A minimal, intuitive, and sufficient API surface for blockchain context

### WebAssembly (WASM)

WebAssembly is a way to run applications in programming languages other than JavaScript as web pages. Essentially, WASM is just a virtual machine that runs on all modern browsers, but whereas in the past you were required to use JavaScript to run code in a web page, WASM makes it possible to run code in browsers with programming languages other than JavaScript.
The WebAssembly Virtual Machine, or WASM for short, is proven to be faster than any alternative virtual machine because of technology peculiarities. **The use of WebAssembly enables Gear’s smart contracts to compile directly into machine code and run at near-native speeds.** Higher speeds means lower transaction costs and higher efficiency.
All Gear programs and smart-contract are run as WebAssembly programs. This means for example, that developers can bring their applications to the web and achieve full performance with the apps’ full set of capabilities - that they’d typically have when running native on Windows or Mac - in a web browser. The developers won’t actually have to write the WASM code directly either. Instead, they’d use WASM as a compilation target for programs written in other languages.
The main problem that WASM solves is the inability to use programming languages other than JavaScript on the web. Although JavaScript is a great programming language, it wasn’t designed to be super fast in large applications. 
WebAssembly has the following advantages:

    • WASM is extremely fast (because it translates to actual hardware instructions), efficient and portable (It can run on any actual hardware). Code can be executed at near-native speed across different platforms. 
    • WASM is also readable and debuggable. Although WebAssembly is a low-level language, it does have a human-readable text format that allows code to be written, viewed and debugged by hand. 
    • It’s also extremely secure as it’s run in a safe, sandboxed environment and like other web code, it will enforce the browsers same-origin and permissionless security policies.
 WebAssembly is a global industry technology for many reasons:
It is co-designed and implemented by all major competitors in its field. Its design and release follow the formalization of full mathematical and machine verification.
 All in all, **WebAssembly is a game-changing technology**. It combines highly optimized code with very small binaries that enables large applications to run very fast and smoothly via the web. This improved efficiency, combined with the possibility of user interaction without download or installation processes is why WebAssembly is being called “the future of the web”. 
 In addition, for smart contract interactions, Gear uses the actor model for communications approach, which is parallelizable and shardable by design. This enables the utilization of various language constructs for asynchronous programming, which significantly streamlines the asynchronous processing of transactions. This enables the running of dApps that support business logic of any project in the decentralized Gear network very, very quickly.

### Gear IDEA And Why DOT

[Gear IDEA](https://idea.gear-tech.io/)  is a convenient tool for writing, compiling and deploying RUST programs directly in the browser without additional configuration of the environment. 
[This](https://idea.gear-tech.io/) is the demo application that implements all the possibilities of interaction with smart-contracts in Gear. It provides the easiest and fast way to upload smart-contract to the blockchain network.
Its mostly for marketing reasons imho and allows you to write a small program from browser and deploy it to current network.
 Regarding why they chose Polkadot, 
>  Its a  scalable infrastructure, easy interactions, scalability, customization flexibility. As we all know Ethereum recently faced scalability problem as we saw slow transaction processing and high fees. Polkadot works with multiple blockchains so loads can be distributed across separate networks. Each project included in the Polkadot ecosystem can create its own blockchain with flexible settings. 

### Gear vs Field

While Astar havent created their own engine and uses the same module of substrate WASM, Gear uses different design of how programs interact with each other. (more effectively). Compared to Moonbeam, significantly reduces transaction costs, is faster, and is more flexible, all thanks to its WebAssembly VM (virtual machine). Furthermore, unlike other smart contract platforms, Gear can scale according to the number of cores a typical validator in the network has (code execution architecture designed to be parallelizable). 
Speed is their greatest strength. WASM is 10 times faster than EVM. Transaction costs are also 10 times lower. This advantage is even more pronounced with their architecture - about 100 times faster (because of parallel computing).

### Target And Future

The project is mainly focused to **attract developers** and anyone with passion for coding. These are their customers, users and partners..

> We have to know that the number of developers in the blockchain space is still very limited. We allow developers who are not familiar with blockchain development to use common languages, that are already popular around the world, such as Rust, C, C++, thereby lowering the threshold for creating and deploying smart contracts. In addition, we are developing many templates and libraries for different applications, so that developers can choose an existing template, modify a few parameters, and easily deploy their applications.

Once fully deployed, Gear will be fully managed by token holders. The majority of tokens will be held by the community and incentivized teams. Gear will have a staking mechanism, so naturally running a node will also be encouraged. This means that by owning tokens and staking, the community will have governance.
Still havent decided when exactly to go for crowdloan, meanwhile team  opened an **office in Silicon Valley, hired a team in China**, and they are starting to grow their community there. 
Also, a few workshops happened, a series of collaborative seminars with leading technology universities in the US, Russia, China and Turkey. This educational project is just getting started and it just keeps getting bigger.
>  We began to put a lot of energy into building a strong community, bringing together people who are interested in developing and joining the blockchain ecosystem. We will also be launching a grant program and an ambassador program soon.

After finishing  the stable testnet, will run an independent security and economic audit to deploy the code on the Kusama network, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022. As for Polkadot's Auction, nothing is ceratin until the full kusama onboarding happens (q3 2022) (?).

### Team

CEO Nikolay Volf is the one who someone **have to pay attention here**. **Has been one of the key developers of basic Polkadot technology and Substrate since 2015**. As an initial member of the Parity Technologies team, he worked on multiple protocols in the blockchain space: Ethereum, Bitcoin, ZCash. Nikolay also led the first-ever implementation of WebAssembly smart contracts while working for Parity Technologies.
Initial member at Parity, also made numerous contributions to Parity Technologies’ core technology and the substrate framework.
Another notable member, Ilya Veller has 20+ years of experience working with HNWI and global hedge funds at Renaissance Capital, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America. Ilya raised over $1bln for various projects over the last 20 years.
Several members cannot be found in Linkedin, the team consists of ~20 people in total.

### Backers

According to [this](https://medium.com/@gear_techs/gear-technologies-building-efficient-smart-contract-support-for-the-polkadot-ecosystem-raises-12-d6c0ea25d402) , 12 mil raised, which sounds like a good number, mainly by Blockchange Ventures. Other VCs also spoted including Three Arrows Capital, Lemniscap, Distributed Global, LAO, Mechanism Capital, Bitscale, Spartan Group LLC, HashKey, DI Ventures, Elysium Venture Capital, Signum Capital and P2P Economy lead by Konstantin Lomashuk, along with a number of top executives of Web3 Foundation and Parity Technologies.
Apparently **Dr. Gavin Wood, Founder and CEO of Parity Technologies **is one of key individual investors participating in this round.

### Final Thoughts

Obviously, this is ultra techy project aiming for developers, following the Dotsama path of developers->users->developers simple loop. Backers quite impressive to be honest, team very good in terms of quality and quantity, looking ready to build and innovate in the space. On the downside, the documentation is not yet finished, and no tokenomics anywhere. Also, CEO has not a track record showing that they can deliver, there is a trend here...(Dotsama is full of young ambitious CEO's but with not proven history of making multi million companies).
Will Gear bring the much needed hype alongside tech or we gonna see a Shiden like price movement?
What will be the utility of the token and why is needed APPART from staking/governance?
Will WASM stand out as the best VM in the future?

These questions will have to be answered in order to have a better evaluation of Gear.

This article is intended to provide information about [Astar](https://astar.network/) only which is a parachain of Polkadot. The canary network on Kusama (Shiden) could potentialy be researched in another post in the future. Part 1 is focused on the core features of the project and some general info, while Part 2 will focus on Team/backers and tokenomics.

They started and working on Astar project since 2019, so not early in social media, but CT shilling/influencers is non existant while the team is fairly active in Twitter and discord. Tech heavy with low amount of general hype, although [interesting](https://twitter.com/astardegens) NFT and Defi (more on that later) projects emerging in Astar ecosystem. 

### What Is Astar? 


Astar Network is an open source, scalable and interoperable infrastructure for Web3.0. Scalability is obviously one of the most crucial demands dApp developers have. Ideally, the developers can build whatever applications on Astar Network without having to consider its scalability.
A scalable smart contract platform on Polkadot supporting cutting-edge layer 2 solutions. It is built on Substrate and designed to be a Polkadot Parachain. 
Blockchains do not scale by design because of the decentralized consensus mechanism. TPS (Transaction Per Second) is much smaller than a centralized database and there is an upper limit of data that can be stored in every block. Astar:

Faster finality
As far as interoperability, Polkadot is a sharded protocol that enables blockchain networks to operate together seamlessly. So Astar solves prominent issues: scalability and interoperability.

### History  ( Plasm into Astar Rebrand)


They have been developing Plasm from 2019 and initially, the focus was solely to implement Layer 2 technology in Polkadot, but their vision was expanded. Layer 2 is now just one element in their innovative development pipeline. Currently, the platform is a dApp hub that supports Etherem Virtual Machine, WebAssembly, and layer2 solutions. This new brand name (Astar) will be used for Polkadot Parachain, and the network deployed once they won the Polkadot Parachain auction. 
In simple words, they decided to change the name to Astar because of the almost complete accord with the L2 scalability solution for Ethereum (Plasma) which also doesnt support smart contracts and to avoid confusion.


### Core


Astar platform supports or aims to support in the future, Layers 2 solutions such as **Plasma,OVM, ZK rollups** as well as **EVM** and **WASM** building **X-VM** module. Also, in order to attract developers into their ecosystem, a unique incentive is introduced, called **Dapp Staking**. Lets look at them one by one:

### DApp Staking


[Dapp staking](https://portal.astar.network/#/balance/wallet) is building an incentive for developers to join their ecosystem as early as possible. The earlier they join the ecosystem, the quicker they can win market share and receive higher rewards from protocol.
Users can choose to nominate their Astar tokens on the project. These users are also known as nominators. At every block, half of your block rewards go to dApp staking. This reward is further divided into a 50/50 ratio between operators (developers) and nominators.
25% of total block rewards is a huge incentive for dApp developers to build in the Astar ecosystem. In other blockchains like Ethereum, dApp developers need to apply for grant programs, issuance of tokens, fundraising, etc. to earn some money. In the Astar ecosystem, as long as your dApp has been nominated, you will receive some basic income. As your dApp grows in popularity, more members of the community will nominate you and this means that you will receive a greater percentage of the block reward!

>  We’re preparing for a network effect. The more dApps that are created, the more tokens will be locked on Astar. This creates a positive feedback loop on the price of $ASTR. The higher the price, the more money you can distribute to developers. Therefore, we can incentivize more developers. Thus there will be more dApps, then the price of $ASTR grows, etc.

To make the long story short, developers in the ecosystem can earn tokens while making smart contracts or infrastructure. The most important people in the blockchain ecosystem are always the developers because they actually create values on the top of the protocol. However, it is also the developers who are not getting enough return on their contributions. (e.g., very crucial service providers and other projects that didn’t issue tokens) Astar Network solve this problem through dApp staking.

> DApp Staking is the reason why we will win. Astar natively supports financial incentives for developers to make dApps and build infrastructure. (Basic income for all developers aka dApp Staking).

**In summary, devs can earn ASTR tokens by making products, which is based on their performance and decentralized governance.**

### Layer 2 Scaling 


In general, Blockchain scaling solutions currently existing are:

- [Segwit](https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0141.mediawiki): Fixing transaction malleability by removing the signature information and storing it outside of the base transaction block.
- [statechannel](https://l4.ventures/papers/statechannels.pdf): Combining off-chain transactions among particular users and only the final state is committed to the main blockchain.
- Sharding: Allowing many more transactions to be processed in parallel at the same time by making shards.
- [Plasma](https://plasma.io/plasma.pdf): Storing transactions in separate child chains and only the root hash is stored in the main chain.
- [OVM](https://www.optimism.io/) The new scalability stack for Ethereum
- [zkrollups](https://github.com/AstarNetwork/ZKRollups): ZKRollup is an L2 scaling solution in which all funds are held by a smart contract on the main chain.

Layer 1 (horizontal) scalability: do more on the layer 1 blockchain. (e.g. sharding and Segwit)
Layer 2 (vertical) scalability: do less on layer 1 and more on layer 2 or off-chain. (e.g. Plasma and State Channel)
the blockchain model may evolve, where layer 1 is used as the trust layer, and layer 2 is the transaction layer.
Scalability is the greatest challenge to all blockchains. To bring widespread adoption of blockchain technology, higher performance is necessary. Scalability is a critical issue that Astar Network seeks to optimize.

***Plasma:***

Polkadot is a highly scalable network by spreading transactions across multiple parallel blockchains. , 
Some of these use cases need tremendous transaction throughputs on a parachain. Astar makes it possible to build use cases that require high performance without sacrificing decentralization.
Plasma is a scaling solution which has a hierarchical structure. It is a framework that allows the creation of child chains that use the main chain as a trust layer. Some parts of Plasma technology could be used for Polkadot2.0 where a relay chain connects to another relay chain, providing infinite scalability. 
 If we can make a bridge between Astar parachain and another blockchain (e.g., Ethereum), it brings tremendous value to the ecosystem because Plasma provides a secure and trustless solution to move assets from A to B through plasma child chain.
 
 ***OVM***
 
The OVM (Optimistic Virtual Machine) is a virtual machine designed to support all layer 2 protocols. It is a possible unification of all layer 2 protocols meaning: Astar Network will not only be for Plasma applications but also for Lightning Network applications or any other layer 2 protocols.

***ZK-Rollup***

Astar's vision is to become a smart contract platform that supports rollups for both Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), WebAssembly (Wasm), and hoping to expand this in the future.
What is a Rollup?A Rollup is an off-chain aggregation of transactions inside an Ethereum smart contract, which reduces fees and congestion by increasing the throughput of the blockchain from its current 15 tps to more than 1,000 tps. Within the smart contract, users can transact with security guarantees.
ZK-Rollup is an L2 scaling solution in which all funds are held by a smart contract on the main chain, while it performs computation and storage off-chain where the validity of the side chains is ensured by zero-knowledge proofs. For every Rollup block, a state transition zero-knowledge proof (SNARK) is generated and verified by the mainchain contract. This SNARK includes proof of the validity of every single transaction in the Rollup block
ZK-Rollup strictly inherits the security guarantees of the underlying L1.

### X-VM (Cross Virtual Machine)


In this section, we checking X-VM (Cross Virtual Machine) of Astar. Their vision for X-VM is to establish a layer of abstraction that allows smart contracts to execute calls and read storage data from different contract engines (virtual machine) and languages (ex, interacting with Solidity dApps written in from ink! or vise versa) within the same blockchain.

 **X-VM is a native module that can unify the various contract engines, like how the OVM unifies the layer 2 protocols.**

WebAssembly is undoubtedly superior for smart contract execution. WASM-based engines have a bright future as many great developers like patract lab are making WebAssembly easier for developers to use on Polkadot.
However, they see still value in EVM, as staying close with the latest developments of Ethereum’s layer2 solutions like Optimistic Rollups and ZK Rollups. They have already started implementing the Rollups in the Plasm Ecosystem, supported by Web3 Foundation Grant Program.
Adding on to this, most new developers will start from learning Ethereum. Established projects will want to maintain their current workflow on Ethereum, and the mainstream will be exposed to the world of blockchains through dApps on Ethereum.

> We treat all dApps as equal. Therefore, we aim to support both WebAssembly and Ethereum Virtual Machine on Plasm & Shiden Network by making them interactive. We see a future where EVM can be looked at as another framework for making dApps alongside ink!, HyperLedger Fabric, EOSIO, and future virtual machines.

As Astar aims to become the hub for dApps on the Polkadot ecosystem, they see the need to add syntactical and functional support for both WASM-based contracts and EVM-based contracts.
For example, if ink! contracts are more popular in the Polkadot ecosystem, the ability to call ink! contracts from a contract written in Solidity will be crucial. Projects that wish to fully leverage the capabilities of Substrate’s native modules, XCMP, and features from other Parachains will have to switch from Solidity to ink!. 

> Similar to the long transition from Ethereum 1.0 to Ethereum 2.0, we understand that migrating to a new environment while maintaining backward compatibility is not an easy process.
> We see X-VM as a long-term project that can ease development in the vastly fragmented smart contract development environment we have today.
As a start, we plan to implement a Proof-of-concept version of the Substrate contract module call as an EVM precompiled contract for the Frontier library in Substrate. This will enable a one-directional contract call from EVM to ink!

***WASM***

[WASM](https://hacks.mozilla.org/2019/08/webassembly-interface-types/)’s performance is very high. The language is built to be as close to native machine code as possible while still being independent.
WASM massively reduces processing times in browsers because of the use of small binaries. This offers great scalability to potentially slow internet connections that want to use blockchain technology.
WASM was developed so that code can be deployed in any browser with the same result. Contrary to the EVM, it was not developed towards a very specific use case. This has the benefit of a lot of tooling being available and large companies putting a lot of resources into furthering WASM’s development.
WASM expands the use of languages to smart contract developers to include Rust, C/C++, C#, Typescript, Haxe, and Kotlin. This means developers can write smart contracts in whichever language they’re familiar with. On the other hand there are some known[ issues ](https://github.com/paritytech/substrate/issues/9354)of WASM.

While some focus on bringing solutions to one developer family, Astar's main focus is on two kinds of families. The first family is blockchain developers, who build smart contracts with Solidity and are familiar with using Ethereum tools. Astar made all those tools available in their EVM environment for supporting the EVM developers.

The second developer family is those who want to build with [Rust](https://www.parity.io/blog/why-rust). The same language Substrate is made with the framework of Polkadot. Currently, Rust is the most used new language on Github, and more institutions and developers are discovering the power of Rust. Supporting WASM in the Astar ecosystem will bring a whole new wave of developers to the blockchain industry. Big institutions are other businesses that want to utilize the power of blockchain can now use their in-house developers to build smart contracts in WASM because they are already familiar with the language that can be compiled to WASM. What's so special about WASM? Because it's just an instruction format, the magic of WASM is that it can be used as a portable compilation target for other languages without sacrificing speed as you would have with transpiling. This includes languages like C++ and Rust, which can now run on the web when compiled to WASM. Using WASM for smart contracts will scale the use of blockchain in our daily lives. It will solve all the problems EVM is facing related to scalability.

> Our lead developers in Astar will work closely with the Parity team on the contract pallet and their project Canvas, a future common good parachain, to improve WASM use inside the Polkadot ecosystem. Gavin Woods, co-founder of Polkadot, creator of EVM, and inventor of the Solidity language for writing smart contracts. He developed the ink! language for utilizing the design of Polkadot inside smart contracts. Ink! is a domain-specific language for writing smart contracts in Rust and compiles to WASM code.

# The DApp Hub Of Polkadot

Unbiased notes of Dotsama Ecosystem

### Intro

In [Part 1](https://app.subsocial.network/5549/what-is-astar-who-is-behind-it-and-why-astr-part-1-31240) i went ahead and gave general information of the project, DApp staking, useful links for the Dotsama community and all the core features of Astar. 
In Part 2, we dive into the team,backers and tokenomics. This is crucial for any crypto project investment and a big part of a fundamental analysis. Im not here to shill and certainly would not not advise anyone to buy or not a specific token, at the end of the day this is intended to provide quality information, with simple structure to have it (you and me) somewhere saved for anytime someone asks: 
What is Astar? Is the team any good? 

### Backers/VC's

The first thing we have to adress is that the project is founded in 2019 by Japanese Sota Watanabe (26 years old!) and the company behind Astar is [Stake Technologies](https://stake.co.jp/en/). 

> Stake Technologies is a company that makes core decentralized protocols to make Web3.0 happen

Stake Technologies has raised a total of $12.4M in funding over 3 rounds. (2020-2021). One of the investors that caught my eye was Nobuyuki Idei who is Founder and CEO of Quantum Leaps Corporation & **Former Chairman and Group CEO of Sony** .Many of the Astar team members are also spoted in the above company.

Worth noting, that [Commonwealth Labs](https://commonwealth.im/), Webb Technologies, and Stake Technologies formed a partnership to support Astar Network. Commonwealth is an all-in-one platform for on-chain communities to discuss, vote, and fund projects together. Partners are known crypto-projects like Near, Uniswap,stafi, Edgeware,HydraDX.

Commonwealth is US based and will help Astar in western markets, while the team from Singapore will continue to expoand in the East.  Assitionaly Commonwealth will provide governance interface. That interface and experience, will be used to deploy on-chain governance to Astar in the near future.

> For Astar, it is very important to have a strong presence in the US given that we have already created a strong ecosystem mainly in Asia and the EU. This cooperation is strategically important and I think this will be a great move that will create a compound effect, - Sota Watanabe, Stake Technologies’ CEO.

Astar Network has made 2 investments. Their most recent was on Nov 11, 2021, when **Subsquid** raised $3.8M, and also invested in DAOlaunch.

But who is backing Astar?

In 2021, according to this [article](https://medium.com/astar-network/plasm-network-closes-2-4m-round-led-by-binance-labs-b186d987ceec)  **Binance Labs** as the lead, alongside HashKey, LongHash, Digital Finance Group, and PAKA Ventures rased $2.4mil to support the team.

In 2022, they [raised](https://medium.com/astar-network/astar-network-multichain-smart-contract-platform-on-polkadot-raises-22m-in-strategic-round-led-52f632fa3a9) another $22 mil in strategic round. Participants include Polychain, **Alameda Research**, Alchemy Ventures, Animal Ventures, Crypto.com Capital, Digital Finance Group, GSR, ROK Capital, Scytale Ventures, Vessel, Injective Protocol, and angel investors including **Dr. Gavin Wood**, Richard Ma, Keisuke Honda, and some executives from Web3 Foundation and Parity Technologies.
Richard Ma is CEO of Quantstamp (auditing crypto project)
Keisuke Honda is ex footballer and star in Japan, played for International Japan Team and also for Roma,Milan and others.
Alongside Binance Labs, exchanges like Huobi, OKEx and Coincheck are also invested in Astar so its expected the token to be traded on all of those.


### Team


The team is not visible in the main page but in a recent AMA its said that the website is due to overhaul in order to have the people working for Astar in the front page.
**Seems that they have 26 employees(6 at marketing and 15-20 tech). 6 in linkedin  and 13 in github. 40 ambassadors from all over the world.**
Due to Japan crypto regulations, team is based in Singapore and they never have used a marketing agency. (hmm)

The one you have to pay attention is **Sota Watanabe**. With 5 years in blockchain space, is CEO at Stake Technologies Pte Ltd and a founder of Astar Network, he is a **director at Japan Blockchain Association** and a task force member of Trusted Web Council led by the Cabinet Secretariat, **Government of Japan**.

Unfortunately havent managed to find a vesting schedule of the tokens. Keep in mind that in order to have a higher conviction of a project and more value to be expected, there should be over 50% tokens released. All i can say for now is that if someone has ASTR tokens, for sure have to stake them in Astar Dapp in order to fight the inflation.

Token Utility:

1) DApp staking. Check [Part 1](https://app.subsocial.network/5549/what-is-astar-who-is-behind-it-and-why-astr-part-1-31240) of the review.

2) NPoS Staking. The typical staking being Validator or Collator. The amount of $ASTR someone must have to run a collator is 3.2mil tokens at the moment.

Stake Technologies has been working with **Microsoft Japan** under the Microsoft for Startups program. The collaboration with Microsoft Japan will provide a wide range of marketing and infrastructure support to ecosystem projects and developers on Astar Network.

### Final Thoughts


With Astar being one of the oldest, first to win an auction parachains and part of the major (in my mind) trio of L1 Polkdadot Blockchains ( the others are Acala and Moonbeam), the expectations are high. 
Tech heavy with low amount of hype and marketing, it might become a "tech only" token delivering low amounts of market share. Long term vision should be applied from both investors and the team. **Exploring Defi (which they are), means more TVL, means more Dapps in their ecosystem, means more users, means more value.**

Some say 2022 is the year of Dotsama. *If* this happens, Astar will thrive.

# Ser, Do You Know What Crypto Is?

### Intro

In this article, the goal is to **provide information**, as simple and to the point as possible, about Cryptocurrency, towards audience which is not familiar or completely unaware of Crypto space. 

*We will not explain how cryptocurrency works and what is the technology behind it (as many people doing), but how it works FOR US, what it accomplishes FOR US, as users.*

Like an elevator, right? You dont care about the mechanics behind it or how it works. You press a button and you go.
First, we gonna give a simple explaination, we follow up with an example and accounts and in the end some final thoughts. 3 things we need to have in mind: A dollar, a computer and a tool.

### Dollars

Dollar is complex pieces of paper that creates physical scarcity. Made by expensive printers, with complex signs and numbers in order to **enforce** the scarcity mentioned above. If anyone tries to copy dollars, its illegal and will go to jail, so its enforced scarcity. If we think of a dollar and how it holds value, its because its scarce and the supply is controlled. On the other hand, its printed at will so the value drops as time passes.
Also, we have the digital version of the dollar, where someone keeping an account of it, at a bank, and this requires trust. So when we think of dollars, we can think of it in physical form (trying to accomplish scarcity) or in a digital form which requires we trust a person to keep the correct numbers in a computer.

### Computer

Computer is a machine that does many things. Its complex actions! It gets an input (like a mouse or a keyboard or data feeds etc) from users, it does some computations (proccesing) and it comes up with actions. 
INPUT -> PROCESS -> ACTION. over and over and over again.

### Tool

A tool, is a specialized instrument that is needed to accomplish a task. So **cyprtocurrency is a tool** for digital scarcity "inside" computers.
In simple words of what cryptocurrency does for us, is that creates digital scarcity in a computer enviroment.
We can think of stocks, we must trust a person or a business to keep account of our shares, or in the past we have physical versions of them.
Cryptocurrency keeps account automaticaly of the scarce digital entities.

### Example

Imagine a person walks into a car wash machine for services to be offered.

*In a world without crypto:*

Physical or digital dollars are needed in order to use them at the machine which is an automated process. 

1. If we use paper:
a) A person needs to come and pickup the dollars from the machine which means costs (gas costs etc) and owners time cost.
b) A person has to deposit the dollars in the bank which means additional costs or trust someone else to do it.
c) The owner has to refill the wash machine, owner time cost.

2. Digital dollars:
a)  Trust based accounts in company servers. we have to trust that a person have to type the correct information, to set up accounts (time cost), the credit card have to be setup correctly...all these means costs.
b) machine owner orders refills

In general, its insecure, time costly and expensive all of the process shown above.

*In a world with crypto:*

a) The machine has a crypto account, no individual needed to type in that account or keep track of it means no other trust party needed,
we can automate business and finance instruments while we cutting costs in many different ways.
b) The machine can automaticaly pay for pick up of cash or convert digital money to crypto. So if someone uses a credit card he can convert it to crypto and the machine will have a balance. 
c) It can automatacly send funds to the owner. The owner isnt involved in the process anymore. The machine just sends him the profits because now the machine has an account.
Also we could have the machine connected throught an API with another computer and have the machines reffiled by setting up the orders with x charge. Lastly with order automatic reffils it will start getting a profit sended to the owner of the machine.
The owner sets up the program one time to be kept filled and it runs automaticaly. Machine is self sufficient. Thw whole process automated reducing significantly the costs.

**Machines can now have value accounts. these accounts hold value and dont need human labor to trust managment of funds**

### Accounts

Account creation and managment is now automated.

Accounts:
1) Complex math interactions (financial inclusion meaning anyone can participate and permisionless access so better financial tools)
2) Automated processes (everyone is treated the same/everyone follows the same rules/ fair world with less racism
3) Proof of ownership key (NFT) (end of theft for expensive items)
4) Record keeping and transparency (no accounting department needed for busineses)


What blockchain does?
Digital scarcity -> all financial actions are programmable -> more inclusions, less costs, higer world wealth, close income gap.

### Final Thoughts

Do we want people to manage our financial processes or do we want predefined human ingenuity in mathematics?
Crypto is math based systems. We design the system, it behaves a certain way and we know the results we gona get.
Crypto is digital programmabale scarcity while economy is human managment of scarce resources. The current system runs on trusted parties and legal work.
Crypto runs automaticaly with no human or legal costs. Its an  **agreement of computers.**

### Intro

This time, i will expand a little more of what accounts creation and managment means to us as people and society, as long as they are automated.. What can we do with automated accounts?

### Complex Math Interactions

Imagine a young, motived to succeed guy, but he does not have the tools to actually have a chance in our world, given his current financial situation or his country situation...What options does he have? He would have to attend a prestigious college, create connections with some bankers or banker's kids, then find a work in one, then the bank would have to make the connections in order for the younster to get the chance to create a bank tool or bank instruments.

So what cryptocurrency offers? It offers **less exclusion, financial inclusion and permisionless access.**

All he needs is an access to a computer, even a public computer in a public library, he would write an application or a tool and he would have the chance to make a fortune out of it. By going straight to the math, learning a program even without the need to go to a college, maybe from his home, he is eligable to create programable services without being excluded... Anyone can participate.

### Automated Processes

everyone is treated the same/everyone follows the same rules/ fair world with less racism
Automated processes cut human labor costs and have an anti-racist aspect resulting less business costs and everyone basically is treated the same. **Cryptocurrency doesnt care how you look like** (less racism) and everyone is working under a fair system, following the same rules.Everyone is included.
Some politicians pretend to care about the society while attacking cryptocurrencies. Pretend to help put an end to racism while crypto is the most anti-racist technology currently existing and we could say that they have not done their research. They also pretend to fight the banks while crypto is basically defeating the wealth gap, you can see the clear lies here...In reality they only care who pays them. Its a game of power control.
Attacking cryptocurrency when crypto is the solution for the things that they "care" about is hypocrisy.

### Proof Of Ownership Key (NFT)

Another thing that cryptocurrency will do is reduce theft. There will be no more theft for expensive items, we will have proof of ownership. Imagine having car, crypto will give you ownership of it and it wont work unless you prove your ownership. Imagine that you could lend it to a friend or rent the access through an automatic way. Item becomes unhackable and theft very very difficult.
Imagine a purse gets stolen and they try to sell it in a pawn shop. Shop will scan the code and prove in seconds who has the digital ownership of the item. (NFT)

### Record Keeping and Transparency

All the record keeping will be automatic. All the records of a business is mostly paperwork, so theres will be no accounting department needed. Very low labor costs and businesses no longer have to have accounting because all these processes of accounting will automaticaly happen. Inherit in cryptocurrency. So low labor costs means low costs for good and services for businesess to operate. 
In finance sector:

1. Increased productivity: Machines do data entry faster and better than humans.
2. Improved accuracy: Fewer data-entry errors mean higher quality data.
3. Faster, better decision making, risk management and compliance: These are natural outcomes of having quicker access to more reliable data.

Yes, cryptocurrency is an **agreement of computers to make our lifes better...**

A typical morning in cryptospace. Rushing through Telegram, Discord, Twitter, Subsocial and portofolio again and again, trying to digest everything that happened in the last 12 to 24 hours in Dotsama community...Luckily, i stumbled across Exiled Racers:

### Play And Earn

This is not your usual play to earn game, where an endless grind is needed for minimal rewards or tokens with non-existant value and utility. Most of those games are dead within a few months after the initial hype. Exiled Racers is a *play AND earn* racing manager with prediction elements involved, as a bonus utility for the NFT holders. It is being built differently, as a **low touch-high reward** game, fast, competitive, without an on-chain token, growing by the community engagement. Team wants to create a **club culture**, where you feel you are like a part of it, being in and out fast, without spending the enormous amount of time, gamers used to do.

During hard times in crypto (coin) market, which most of people start with, human reacts in different ways... Some quit and keep living their life, others day trading, and others keep looking for opportunities. You cant blame anyone!
But some exploring NFT's. And this leads to get to know better the capabilities of Dotsama NFT space, like [RMRK](https://twitter.com/RmrkApp) which has spread like a virus, all over the community and projects, because it brings...INNOVATION! Dotsama NFT community is small ( some say around 2-3k active members) but you love being early right?? 

So, 2 main groups are formed: 
- Those who invest in NFT projects, monitor-lurking all discords, checking CTwitter and trying to find out who is legit, who has something to offer and which one is the money grab/slow rugg.

- Those who creating and building a new idea and/or highly engaged within a project, spending their valuable time providing quality services in order for the project to grow.

### How And Why Choose To Get Involved?

Idea. 
You have to like the general idea of the project. This is decided by several factors but usually it depends on anyone's backround. ( Ex: gaming).

Let me tell you a little secret: Dotsama is watching! Always! What that means is that people ( CEO's, Community Managers, CMO's etc..) are always hungry for new blood, newcomers that willing to put the effort and bring new ideas... Do not expect to get invited in a team just because.. Take some actions:
- Make content for your favourite NFT project.
- Be as much active as you can ( not because its a job, because you genuiely like their idea/art).
- Make connections, spot who is who, do some researching ( altho most NFT's are anons, still you can ask around).
- Simply ask the team if they need help in any sector you willing to help and let them monitor you.

[Evrloot](https://evrloot.com/) idea was perfect for me. Many years in gaming space, long gone but the fire inside is always there, dark and epic vibes from Diablo game. I was always thinking that Dotsama NFT space was too childish, too meme ish..so joining and actively helping Evrloot guys was an easy choice.

Next step, talking with the team. Gut feelings are usually the correct ones, and i sensed from the get-go that Deckard and Luuu ( Evrloot co-founders) are thinking long term. They want to build an RPG game with RMRK2.0 and RMRK3.0 standards, they want to bring this "RPG" feeling within Singular, and create these awsome stories for the Evrloot world. Its a group of real life friends..

I wasnt expecting the success in our first collection Book Of Lore. Honestly. But sometimes, the vibes the community is getting from the team are reflected in Singular. 

Community is growing step by step. We dont believe in agressive marketing.. No fake accounts, no tag x friends, no reaching to others for visibility and " Pls tweet about us"... The terms are clear:
*Spread the word and our name will be heard.*

### Future

I cant predict what will happen. For now, i enjoy being close to our community, spending some hours on mobile or desktop, and feeling great being part of a team of great individuals with same goals as me.

## History

In July 2020, the Zenlink project was established and the initial team was formed.

In November 2020, the team completed the internal testing of Zenlink DEX Protocol v0.1 and the development of v0.2.

In January-February 2021, Zenlink established partnerships with Bifrost, Astar (formerly Plasm), Phala, Darwinia, and other parachain projects.

In March 2021, Zenlink was successfully connected to Rococo, and integration testing of the Zenlink DEX Protocol on Rococo was conducted.

In April 2021, Zenlink completed its 1st public beta test and developed the Zenlink NFT launch plan.

In May 2021, the team completed the development of the Zenlink DEX Protocol v0.4 version and started the development of Zenlink SlotVault (PLO support application), and the Zenlink DAO bootstrap governance program was launched.

In June 2021, the team completed a preliminary version of the Zenlink Smart Order Routing design.

In July-August 2021, Zenlink started integration-related joint testing with Shiden and Bifrost and launched Zenlink SlotVault to support parachain auctions and update Roadmap announced to go live on the Kusama network (integration to Moonriver / Bifrost / Shiden).

In September 2021, Zenlink finished its Series A funding round led by Alameda Research and followed by IOSG Ventures, Hashkey Capital, OKEx Blockdream Ventures, Hypersphere Ventures, SNZ Holding, SevenX Ventures, DFG, TRG Capital, PAKA, and launched its 2nd beta testing.

## What Is Zenlink?

Zenlink is committed to building a new generation cross-chain DEX network. In the image above, we can see the 2 main parts that Zenlink is consist of:

Zenlink DEX Protocol and the DEX dApp building on top of it. For the DEX Protocol, they building a general and pluggable DEX Module that allows different parachains to have DEX capabilities simply by one-click. Meanwhile, they also create an efficient DEX-specific cross-chain protocol to share the liquidity of DEX Modules on different parachains.

Zenlink DEX functionalities can be imported into parachains in the following three ways.

1. Integrated with parachains as a substrate module.

2. Deployed to the Wasm Contract module on parachains.

3. Deployed to the EVM Contract module on parachains.

## **“Plug and Play” Zenlink DEX Module Not A Parachain**

Zenlink is NOT a parachain neither have conducted crowdloan to get a lease spot on Polkadot, but they did test on Rococo testnet.

A large number of applications are expected to be built on different parachains, which also means that liquidity will be scattered on different parachains. Zenlink will step in at this point and act as the **DEX hub of these liquidities**. By integrating the Zenlink DEX Module, Zenlink can enable parachains to share liquidity with other parachains and converge the isolated liquidity into a huge liquidity network in the end.

This also means that Zenlink DEX network will be able to capture the liquidity of the Polkadot ecosystem to the maximum extent so that users can not only complete the exchange easily and quickly but also enjoy a low slippage transaction experience without worrying about which parachain they are trading on.

Each parachain on Polkadot is essentially a completely independent collection of freely programmable Runtime Module, which makes it easy for all parachains to integrate **Substrate-based Zenlink DEX Module.** So what Zenlink needs to do is to combine the Module in multiple parachains together to establish a decentralized cross-chain DEX network.

## WASM And EVM

Writing WASM smart contracts with an ink! pallet is an effective way to deploy features. The benefit of this method is that people compile and deploy the smart contract to the parachain ink! module, rather than modify the source code of the parachain.

The WASM smart contract consists of two parts: Exchange and Factory.

The Exchange contract is the core of the ZenLink Dex Protocol. It implements the following interfaces:

* Initializing token trading pairs.

* Token swaps.

* Adding/extracting liquidity.

* Defining the liquidity constant function used throughout the protocol.

The Factory contract can be used to create exchange contracts for any ERC20 token that does not already have one. It also functions as a registry of ERC20 tokens that have been added to the system, and the exchange with which they are associated.

Zenlink aims to help parachains in the ecosystem by offering them a simple way to implement dex functionalities. So, writing EVM smart contracts with an EVM pallet is an effective way to deploy features. The benefit of this method is that people compile and deploy the smart contract to the parachain's EVM pallet, rather than modify the source code of the parachain.

***Worth noticing that Zenlink allready supports Bifrost network, Moonriver and Moonbeam while Astar support is coming very soon.***

## Why $ZLK?

The economic model on which ZLK token is built is rarely seen in Dotsama projects for various reasons. Firstly, ZLK is a **deflationary** token that lives both in Kusama and Polkadot and the distribution is 40mil for Kusama network and 60 mil for Polkadot network. Max supply 100 mil ( in reality lower atm)

> 40,000,000 ZLK issued on the Kusama network and 60,000,000 ZLK issued on the Polkadot network, which will follow a non-discriminatory release rule

Buy back and burn mechanism have been implemented and so far we got 3 burns:

2021 Q4 0.2% burn

2022 Q1 0.5% burn

2022 Q2 1.2% burn

As you can see, theres an exponential growth of burning and if this continues, in theory, the value of the token will rise. Unfortunately the private/seed sale price of the token is not public available but with this low mcap, we shouldnt be far from those prices. There were no public sales or crowdloans.

Token Utility:

* Governance

* Active User Incentives. Users receive ZLK rewards by actively participating in activities on Zenlink, for example utilising the platform, providing liquidity

The TVL sits at around $8-9 mil which is very very low, and the team must find ways to grow it. This is very crucial in order to capture market share. Additionaly most DEX suffer from investors grabing big APY’s, farm, and get out to next App/farm.

Zenlink raised $1.1mil in 2020 from angel investors like Hashkey, Continue Capital, IOSG Ventures, D1 Ventures και Youbi Capital.

In general having a team open to the public is pretty important due to reputational loss if something goes wrong, and also we can find motivation! I wish we had all the information to evaluate their past and what they working on. Theres always a risk of team to give up

## Conclusion

With XCM launch on Polkadot, Zenlink has a bright future ahead. Tokenomics are good, several burns, very small mcap and early in social media. It is not shilled in CT at all and so far the team has shown that they can deliver a quality product. On the other hand, team is mostly anon and TVL is very low while the competition is one of the hardest out there.

Keep your eyes open, as long as we see regular updates on ZenLink Dapp, growing community and higher TVL, this can do x100 easily.
