## New Verification Flow

From now on, to verify a collection, you will need to have at least 10 $RMRK at all times, a set identity, and at least 5 NFTs in that collection or a special agreement with the team. The 10 RMRK is only per-account, not per-collection.

We realize this is a high barrier to entry, but it's necessary to prevent spam verification requests. Otherwise we'd be too swamped to every verify anyone. Believe us, there's two people full time on verifications.

The amount of RMRK required can be modified via governance. More info on that soon.

## Referral and Address Copy Buttons

The Account Selection popup will now offer two new buttons: copy referral link, and copy address. This will not close the popup. This lets you easily fetch the link you need for sale-revenue-sharing schema like that of [Dino x Dino](https://app.subsocial.network/@rmrkapp/dino-x-dino-and-rmrk-prehistoric-promotion-22785).

## Removed SimpleSwap

We removed SimpleSwap as an option to purchase RMRK. Their lax support and frequent bugs despite us giving them comprehensive advice on how to avoid them have prompted us to remove their widget from both Kanaria and Singular to prevent any more loss of funds.

Additional methods to obtain RMRK will become available shortly - notably on DEXes on Karura and Moonriver. For up to date availability information please refer to the [Singular Tokens page](https://singular.rmrk.app/tokens).

## Collection rankings

We now have a [dedicated rankings page on Singular](https://singular.rmrk.app/rankings) for collection performance over time.

## Mint and Burn on Statemine

You can now mint Statemine collections and burn them from the Singular UI.

The UI is exactly the same and should be familiar, but the following caveats are worth keeping in mind:

- minting on Statemine requires a 1 KSM deposit per class (collection), which you get back if you burn the collection
- minting on Statemine allows you to burn NFTs and entire collections even if they're not owned by the issuer any more. So an issuer can always take away, freeze, or destroy your NFTs.
- minting on Statemine has the additional option of freezing metadata. Until frozen, metadata can be mutated, which is useful for post-sale reveals and similar mechanics. However, the issuer always has control over this and can modify it at will (by unfreezing).
- there is currently no way to set a collection banner on Statemine, but this functionality will be added soon.

Trading is not yet on the way because it's very difficult and dangerous to implement due to a lack of logic on the chain.

## QR Codes on send / recieve

The send / recieve functionality will now support QR codes. This is especially handy for mobile use. You can find the QR code of your address in the account selection menu, and you can find the input for QR in the Send popup where clicking the QR button will activate your webcam and wait for a scan.

## View Burned NFTs

Some pages will now have a "Show burned" toggle, allowing you to see NFTs you have minted but that have been burned. Useful for keeping track of things, audits, etc.

## History Deeplinking

You can now click on the individual entries of an NFT's history to go to the block in which this action happened. This should make inspecting the raw RMRK transaction much easier for the curious, and should also assist with bug reports.

## Minor UX Boosts

- It is now easy to copy an NFT's ID from its details page, by just tapping on the ID. No more fiddling with URLs to get an ID out.
- There is now an indicator for when an item is equipped on Kanaria, so that when you're looking at your inventory and a set of identical items, you know which ones are in use at a glance.
- Profile banner and collection banner ratio has been unified at 3:1, making it easier to reuse banners and also enhancing compatibility with Sub.id.
- You can now set 0 as a batch listing price, effectively de-listing multiple NFTs at once.
- The PDF reader has been improved somewhat with page jumping and other controls.
- Kanaria resources are now loaded on demand, not immediately on NFT load, speeding up load times. The SVG composer (the renderer making your bird appear) will also now load fragments with a slight fade-in to be less jarring.

## Bug fixes

- The number of owned NFTs per collection when looking at collections will now be accurate
- An introduction of a new common library broke identity displays on Statemine. This has now been fixed.
- A collection's external link will now be visible on the collection page (duh
- A jarring horizontal scroll on mobile was fixed, caused by a rogue sharing popup
- When burning gems to use them on Kanaria, the reason for the burn could sometimes overflow the box it's shown in.
- Locked KSM will now no longer be shown as your balance in the taskbar, preventing buy attempts with money you do not have.
- There was an ellipsis bug in history where it tried to "shorten" too short names.

Singular Changelog 6

We are starting a new experiment with curated collections. Up until now, for a collection to be curated it had to be unanimously upvoted by the RMRK team. As the team grows and the number of collections keeps exploding with the growing community, this has been harder and harder to focus on.

Today we are excited to announce [RMRK's Curation DAO](https://www.opensquare.io/space/rmrk-curation) on OpenSquare's snapshot-voting platform!

Two types of votes can be cast:

- mark as plagiarism or copyright infringement
- curate collection

## How it works

Any RMRK holder with 431 or more $RMRK tokens **ON STATEMINE** can at any time initiate a new proposal. There is no lower limit on how many tokens you need to **vote**, the 431 limit is there only for creating new proposals.

> 🚨 Note that currently only the Statemine balance is counted! RMRK tokens migrated to MOVR, Karura, Bifrost or any other supported chain do NOT count towards your balance for now! OpenSquare is working on upgrading their platform to support this soon! 🚨

A proposal's title **MUST** follow a naming template, otherwise it will be deemed invalid regardless of vote outcome.

If you are proposing that a collection be curated, the format is: `Curation request: COLL_ID` where `COLL_ID` is the ID of the collection. Example: `Curation request: 924cf81bb52a1b5c57-PASTELBEACHMALL`.

If you are proposing that a collection be banned as plagiarism or copyright infringement, the format is: `Plagiarism: COLL_ID` where `COLL_ID` is the ID of the collection. Example: `Plagiarism: 924cf81bb52a1b5c57-PASTELBEACHMALL`.

Put your arguments into the body of the proposal, rich markdown (tables etc) is supported. The more proof / arguments, the better:

- if proposing for curation, make sure you include arguments such as an artist's past performance, their volume metrics, their originality, whether or not they have identity set up, etc.
- if proposing for a plagiarism flag, you **must** include proof - links to existing media that proves these materials existed elsewhere in some form or are infringing on some copyright or trademark.

The Snapshot value determines the block time on which the token balance is counted. This means moving token balances around to get more votes won't count after this block number. It defaults to "now".

The voting period for curation proposals must be **7 days**. The voting period for plagiarism reports must be **3 days**. The start date should be set to the day of the proposal's creation.

### Voting Types

Two sums of votes are used to determine the win, and the interpretation is up to the "show caller", in this case, RMRK, as per Test Periods defined further down. The two voting types are plutocratic (regular - majority of total tokens wins) and quadratic.

Quadratic voting works by squaring the sum of square roots of all vote values, in order to make whales easier to outvote. As an example:

- Voter A: 100 tokens aye
- Voter B: 9 tokens nay
- Voter C: 4 tokens nay
- Voter D: 16 tokens nay

=

- 10^2 = 100 for aye
- (3 + 2 + 4)^2 = 81 for nay

Another nay vote for as little as 4 RMRK will tilt it

- (3 + 2 + 4 + 2)^2 = 121

### Voting by Proxy

In some cases, RMRK tokens are held by multisig wallets in which case it is difficult to log in and vote. Such accounts should set up a proxy account, and when voting by proxy input the multisig, but use the proxy (from the Polkadot JS extension) to vote.

## Test Period 1

During the rest of January, we want to test drive the fairness of the quadratic voting system.

Note: We are aware that it is possible to game this system by splitting your balance before an expected snapshot and give your votes more of an effect, but we want to count on people being honest. This is why this is a test period, and if we notice some fishy behavior we will apply different rules.

## Test Period 2

If quadratic voting fails during the first testing period, we will then be applying the same formula Kusama and Polkadot use during referendum voting: https://wiki.polkadot.network/docs/learn-governance#tallying

Specifically, Positive Turnout Bias will be applied. What this means is that a proposal will be biased to fail, and the more total supply of RMRK votes, the more the vote will approach simple-majority-wins mode. Until that happens, a super-majority of AYE votes will be required, depending on the turnout.

In other words, the bigger the percentage of total $RMRK supply participating in the vote, the easier it is to pass the proposal.

## Test Period 3

The final test period will be an attempted combination of the two above: quadratic voting + positive turnout bias. The exact formula is still being discussed.

## What's in it for me?

By being an active participant in this effort, you are helping improve Singular for _everyone_. You _might_ also be rewarded in some other way after enough participation, but this is still being discussed and in no way a promise or guarantee.

When we launched [$RMRK](https://singular.rmrk.app/tokens) on Statemine, we did it to have a canonical location on which to track the token balances without depending on any particular parachain. Our needs have now outgrown it, and Statemine's limitations have forced us to look elsewhere.

The RMRK token will [soon be usable](https://karura.subsquare.io/democracy/referendum/35) as collateral and trading pair on Karura, and will be migrating off of Statemine onto Karura and other chains throughout 2022 - those will be documented in subsequent posts under the [`tokenmigration` tag](https://app.subsocial.network/search?tags=tokenmigration) and on Singular's [tokens page](https://singular.rmrk.app). Read below for more details.

## Karura deployment

RMRK is now bridgeable to Karura. You can move the tokens over through Polkawallet and the Karura app itself.

As a native asset on Karura, RMRK can be used on DEXes and in liquidity providing, and can even be wrapped in logic through Karura's upcoming EVM+ (coming soon). 

The RMRK Association has committed **3000 RMRK** to give out as LP rewards over the next 30 days at a rate of 90 per day, exclusively to **[Kanaria](https://kanaria.rmrk.app) owners**. 

An additional 10 $RMRK per day is reserved for Kanaria owners with the Karura mask equipped - 7 for the full mask, and 3 for the halo only - this amount will be pooled and distributed according to relative pool ownership.

Note that mask owners need to accept the new NFT as a child on their bird (Acala referral birds) while halos were just added to the inventory of the first 8478 Karura crowdloan contributors.

The Karura-equipped bird has to be in your Kusama account (readable on [Kanaria](https://kanaria.rmrk.app)), and not on Karura itself (NFT bridging is not ready yet - we will do cross-chain reading to evaluate - you do not have to do anything).

The distribution will happen after the 30 days of LPing, once we've analyzed everyone's performance. _Note that even a single unequip of the mask, or a move of the Kanaria from a wallet to another one will interrupt this period and disable the bonus._

Kanaria LPs that supply more than 431 RMRK will also be eligible for a special Kanaria-equippable NFT if they keep LPing for a full 30 days without a break, regardless of whether or not they have the mask (but they need to have a bird for the duration of the 30 days).

Karura themselves also intend to reward LPs of the RMRK/kUSD pool with an extra 10000 KAR over 7 days!

To recap:

- everyone LPing will be rewarded with $RMRK in the proportion of their pool ownership over time. This reward will be increased if the LPer has any Karura NFT equipped on their Kanaria bird in the same address, with full mask holders getting a bigger bonus and halo holders getting a smaller one. Having JUST the Karura NFT is **NOT** enough, **you need to have it equipped on a Kanaria**.
- everyone LPing more than 431 $RMRK for more than 30 uninterrupted days will get a special NFT.
- everyone LPing into RMRK/kUSD will also get rewards from Karura of 10000 KAR over 7 days, relative to their LP stake.

Note: [the pools are currently unabalanced](https://twitter.com/RmrkApp/status/1485555929781354501?s=20), which is a great way to pick up some discounted RMRK tokens!

## One-way migration

With the bridge to Karura open, we're initiating a full migration of the $RMRK token from Statemine to other compatible chains (Moonriver and Bifrost are coming soon).

Token holders will have **Q1 - Q3 of 2022** to migrate out of Statemine, at which point the #8 asset on Statemine will be destroyed by force, resulting in a loss and reclaim of unmigrated tokens. Please migrate your tokens at your leisure, but don't wait until the end of 2022 - there is [not much](https://app.subsocial.network/@rmrkapp/rmrk-s-community-curation-dao-30696) to gain by waiting too long, and you're only missing out on DeFi gains you could otherwise get on Karura.

## Questions

1. What happens to $RMRK if Karura loses a parachain slot?
    - the chain would be downgraded to a parathread. The tokens would be frozen until the chain resumes. Should this ever become a real risk, we'll know well in advance.
2. Can Statemine be upgraded to the point of being useful for RMRK again?
    - we don't think so. It would need vesting, self-sustainability of RMRK (so existential deposit isn't needed any more), and some logic for triggering token transfers automatically etc. in order to support it as a metaverse currency or currency to pay with on [Singular](https://singular.rmrk.app) and [Kanaria](https://kanaria.rmrk.app). Statemine was designed with minimalism in mind - it should only do one thing (balance keeping) and do it well - and so we do not feel like this is a good environment for a high-utility token.
3. Why did you choose Karura as the target?
    - Karura has a highly motivated, very active, and highly incentivized team behind it. It is guaranteed to be maintained long into the future. It also has a very good Polkadot-native DEX infrastructure which we want to leverage.
4. What other chains will RMRK come to and when?
    - We are [already available on Moonriver](https://app.subsocial.network/@rmrkapp/rmrk-token-migration-to-moonriver-now-live-30892) and it should also be [usable on Bifrost already](https://dex.zenlink.pro/).
5. Will I be able to move RMRK between these chains?
    - in theory. One way would be for Statemine's "incoming tokens" bug to be fixed, so that channels between Statemine and other chains can be made bidirectional. Then the tokens can be sent back to it, and from it to another bridged chain. Another way would be if channels were to be opened between these chains, so direct transfers can be made possible. A third way would be through a CEX like Kucoin which would allow you to pick a withdrawal destination (functionality being built right now).
6. What is kRMRK?
    - we previously wanted to call the token kRMRK to indicate it's on Karura, but this is not necessary, so the ticker was changed to be the canonical RMRK.

# RMRK and Statemine / Statemint NFTs

Statemine and its Polkadot version Statemint are common-good parachains for generic balance tracking of custom assets. Custom assets can be non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or fungible tokens like [$RMRK](https://singular.rmrk.app/tokens).

There is a common misconception that Statemine / Statemint NFTs are "Kusama NFTs" or "Polkadot NFTs" respectively.

Polkadot NFTs do not exist natively on the relay chain (Polkadot itself), but Statemint (a parachain on Polkadot) can have NFTs, and these should be referred to as "Statemint NFTs" and not Polkadot NFTs. 

The same goes for Kusama, where Statemine can have NFTs, referred to as "Statemine NFTs". However, the development of the RMRK specification enabled Kusama to have NFTs natively, and these are Kusama NFTs or better known as RMRK NFTs.

In addition to those described above, there are other flavors of NFTs within the Dotsama ecosystem - see the diagram below for an overview.

## Summary

* Statemint is a parachain on Polkadot. Statemint can have NFTs (i.e., Statemint NFTs), but Polkadot does not natively have NFTs (i.e., Polkadot NFTs are not a thing).
* Statemine is a parachain on Kusama. Statemine can have NFTs (i.e., Statemine NFTs), and initially Kusama did not natively have NFTs (i.e., so initially Kusama NFTs were not a thing). But the RMRK specification enabled Kusama to have NFTs natively.
* Thus, Polkadot NFTs don’t exist, and Kusama NFTs are RMRK NFTs.
* There are other flavors of NFTs in the ecosystem, but social consensus seems to be converging on RMRK's implementation due to their advanced features and availability across infrastructure.
* Statemine NFTs can now be traded on [Singular](https://singular.app)!

RMRK and Statemine / Statemint NFTs

Njord and Njordson are [Kanaria gems](https://url.rmrk.app/gems) that give their holders (technically, the holders of the NFT birds holding the gems) 19.7% of revenue from the RMRK team's future profits. For details, please see linked post.

If you unequipped the gem at any point during the month, you will be skipped in that month's payouts and forfeit your share. ## New embedded charts by Web3Go

Web3Go is Litentry's spinoff focusing on charting the Dotsama ecosystem. We've admittedly been dragging our feet with chart stats on Singular due to other priorities, so we were thrilled when they told us about their NFT stats.

From February onwards, users can now see charted stats of each collection by clicking on the charts icon. Stats represented: unique owners, floor, transactions, and volume.

- NFTs can now be made revealable without centralizing the metadata.
- NFTs can have multiple resources.
- We are working on adding equipping and cross-collection logic to the UI in the next two weeks.
- We are feature-freezing RMRK2 in order to focus on pallets and contracts next. 
- You will no longer be able to launch collections on the old Singular, but you can still mint NFTs into existing collection. New collections should be launched on [Singular.app](https://singular.app).

Let's go into more detail.

## Singular.app and RMRK2

By means of a recap, RMRK's NFT 2.0 system is composed of the following NFT legos:

- NFTs being able to own and equip other NFTs
- NFTs being able to have multiple resources
- NFTs accepting emotes
- NFTs having conditional renders
- NFTs being DAOs

With RMRK2 on Kusama, we are limited in what we can do with conditional renders and DAOs - without smart contracts, this functionality is very hard to do. But the rest is now supported on [Singular.app](https://singular.app). Notably, multi resource, emotable, and nested NFTs.

From now on, whenever you mint a new collection or NFT on [Singular.app](https://singular.app), it will by default be based on the [RMRK2 standard](https://github.com/rmrk-team/rmrk-spec/tree/master/standards/rmrk2.0.0). Due to these upgrades, and the need to store vastly more information, **we raised the marketplace commission to 3.5%.**

One thing to note is that your RMRK2 NFTs (as minted on [Singular.app](https://singular.app)) will NOT be visible on [RMRK1 Singular](https://singular.rmrk.app), nor on any other current-gen RMRK marketplace. We eagerly await more implementations of RMRK2 across the ecosystem, and have APIs prepared for the teams who wish to show our NFTs but do not necessarily want to process the chain.

## Royalties

Starting with [Singular.app](https://singular.app)'s launch, RMRK NFTs now support author-defined royalties.

These are **NFT-specific**, NOT collection-level, and we are working on adding an account-level setting for the default, so it is auto-applied to your mints, and you do not have to manually input it every time.

The range you can set is anything between and including 0.1% to 25%. This means any secondary sale of your NFT on the marketplace will give this much of the sale price to you.

Royalties cannot be back-ported into RMRK1. However, as we slowly enable the migration of collections from RMRK1 to RMRK2, the issuer will be able to define a royalty to be applied during this migration and if you choose to migrate, you will have to also accept this new value. You can, of course, stay on RMRK1 forever.

Additionally, on RMRK2, issuers will be able to modify an NFT's royalty IF they also own it. They cannot change royalty on items they no longer own, but as long as the issuer == the owner, the royalty is mutable.

### Nested Royalties

As documented at the bottom of [this post](https://app.subsocial.network/@bruno/on-chain-royalties-for-nf-ts-are-un-enforceable-18777), nested royalties are a HARD problem to solve. Our solution is coming as soon as we add equipping and nesting logic to the new Singular UI, and it involves, in a nutshell, setting a price for every child if you are also selling a parent.

In other words, if you have NFT A with NFT A1, A2, A3 inside it, and you decide to sell A, the only way the authors of A1 - A3 get their fair royalties is for you to set a price for each of them, and they all get listed separately alongside A.

This means that someone can buy A2 on its own without buying A, but it also means that if A gets sold, all authors of A1 to A3 get the appropriate royalty.

This is the only possible compromise we have come up with, and we have given this a lot of thought. We are now translating this into an intuitive enough UI.

### NFT Taint

Most marketplaces will not support royalty from the get-go - it is not an easy thing to implement. It is also cheaper to buy an NFT without royalties, because the way it is implemented now includes adding the royalty fee on top of the on-chain listing. This means that, yes, a bot can snipe an NFT without paying a royalty, and actually gets it cheaper.

To combat this, we will introduce a _taint_ attribute to all NFTs that have been traded without royalties.

This indicates scripting, black market, and OTC trades. Any NFT that has been transferred without the royalty being paid will be tainted, and this tarnished reputation of the NFT should, in theory, reduce its secondary market value so that in the end it always pays to pay the royalty.

A tainted NFT can be untainted by manually paying the royalty that was missing in a transfer (a button will be added for "untainting", payable by anyone). In the case of a cold storage transfer (which might get interpreted as an OTC trade and taint the NFT), the owner can just sign a message with each address and remove the taint without paying.

## Dutch Auctions

A Dutch Auction is one that starts high and then periodically lowers the price until purchased. This will be clearly indicated alongside every Dutch-auctioned NFT.

Right now, Dutching an NFT is reserved for RMRK-launched NFTs, but soon we will allow select others to launch Dutch Auctions through our Auctioneer escrow account.

## Custom Attributes

While minting an NFT, you can now define custom attributes:

These are currently read only, but their renders in the NFT's UI will soon be upgraded to allow:

- filtering by attribute
- showing how many other NFTs in the same collection have the same attribute, indicating rarity

## Revealable NFTs

You can now set an NFT as revealable.

A Revealable NFT is one that you expect to "hatch" later, discarding the original art. Think eggs hatching into birds, or gifts opening and revealing another NFT.

With a Revealable NFT, the media metadata is added to the root level of the NFT. Since RMRK2 spec says that once an NFT has ANY resource, that takes priority over the root level media, this means that as soon as you add a resource to the NFT (like a trading card) the original art (gift box) will be overwritten and only the card will be visible. Note that the owner of the NFT still has to ACCEPT the new resource (see below), otherwise the NFT cannot be updated. It is not possible to update someone's NFT by force.

With a non-revealable NFT, the first thing you mint is also its first resource, so the root-level media does not exist and there is nothing to overwrite and reveal. This type of NFT requires two transactions - one to make the NFT, and one to make a resource for it at the same time.

In either case, you can add more resources to an NFT later to make it multi-resource.

### Multi-resource NFTs

Multi-resource NFTs are NFTs that can have different outputs, as explained in [this post](https://url.rmrk.app/dawn).

To add a new resource to an existing NFT, use the NFT's context menu:

A resource is NOT a separate NFT. It is another "face" of the same NFT. Fill out the fields:

- image: main image of the new resource
- thumbnail: optional image for what to show in small format, like in SERP pages and catalogs etc, representing this new resource
- name: will be used as default name of the NFT once this resource is set as primary
- description: overwrites default description when this resource is primary
- attributes: see section above, each resource can have its own attributes

To credit an artist or the source of this new resource, we propose the following standardized set of attributes:

| Source     | Name of the artist, studio, or company who made this. Alternatively, title of the game, app, or contract this resource came from.     |
| Source Affiliation     | If the Source is an individual, they might have an affiliation, like a studio, but still want to be credited as source separately. See example below.     |
| Source URL     | URL to the source - game studio, artist instagram, etc.     |

The ability to bind a resource to a certain slot in a certain collection is coming to the UI soon. This will allow composable cross-collection projects. Expect a detailed post about that when it's out.

## Future plans

We are now feature-freezing RMRK2 as a standard/specification on Kusama (the so called "remark" version) in an effort to focus on pallets (parachain modules for integration of our standards into the runtimes of interested parachains) and contracts (EVM version of the standard for EVM based chains like Moonriver, Moonbeam, and others).

This means that:

1. RMRK1 on Singular ([singular.rmrk.app](https://singular.rmrk.app)) will get no further updates except critical bug fixes.
2. RMRK2 on Singular ([Singular.app](https://singular.app)) will get nesting and equipping for UI functionality, and Dutch auctions will open for other users, all in the next few weeks hopefully, but nothing else beyond that.
3. All effort is being redirected to the [EVM](https://github.com/rmrk-team/evm) and [pallet version](https://github.com/rmrk-team/rmrk-substrate) of the UI so that Singular becomes the true cross-chain destination for NFT minting and trading, truly kickstarting the global item economy.

You will also notice that NFTs on Singular.app do not have hardcoded rarities like "Legendary" etc. This is because they no longer apply in the "old way" - a hat with 2000 copies is quite common on a collection of 8000 avatars, but if a new collection of another 8000 appears and is made compatible with the hat, suddenly the hat's demand doubles. This is why we are introducing a new score and way of applying it soon, which will be detailed separately, stay tuned.

### What about my RMRK1 NFTs?

Your RMRK1 NFTs will continue to live on [rmrk.singular.app](https://rmrk.singular.app), and we will look at ways to visualize them on RMRK2 Singular, but we will discourage further minting of new collections on RMRK 1.

You can still mint NFTs into existing collections. The idea is to make as many people mint on RMRK2 as possible, and allow a migration of RMRK1 NFTs into RMRK2 soon after.

Hopefully, we can completely phase out RMRK1 by the end of 2022.

Introducing RMRK2 on Singular.app

We just launched the February 2022 collection of RMRK banners.

Everyone who had the full set of the previous ones (all 15) got 4 of them automatically airdropped. Those with 13/14 got 3, and those with 10-12 got 2 of the banners airdropped.

Starting with Feb, the banners are RMRK2 and will be published on Singular.app exclusively. We will enable the migration of RMRK1 banners into RMRK2 soon, and now that they are RMRK2 NFTs they might even get an extra resource or two over time - stay tuned.

RMRK February Banners, stylishly delayed

In January 2022 ago we [started a curation experiment](https://app.subsocial.network/@rmrkapp/rmrk-s-community-curation-dao-30696) where we allowed RMRK holders on Statemine to propose collections for curation or plagiarism and vote on the proposals. We used Quadratic Voting as the measure of a vote passing or failing.

This has been a moderate success: plenty of collections got curated, but very few of them were downvoted at all, let alone downvoted enough to not make the cut.

While we work on anonymous voting so that casting negative votes carries less social stigma, we have upgraded the voting system to a new one which is active from the [launch of Singular 2](https://url.rmrk.app/singular2), on March 3rd (3,3).

## How it works

Visit the [Curation DAO UI](https://www.opensquare.io/space/rmrk-curation).

Two types of votes can be cast:

- mark as plagiarism or copyright infringement
- curate collection

To submit a new proposal, you need to have 431 RMRK on Karura, Bifrost, or Statemine.

A proposal's title **MUST** follow a naming template, otherwise it will be deemed invalid regardless of vote outcome.

If you are proposing that a collection be curated, the format is: `Curation request: COLL_ID` where `COLL_ID` is the ID of the collection. Example: `Curation request: 924cf81bb52a1b5c57-PASTELBEACHMALL`.

If you are proposing that a collection be banned as plagiarism or copyright infringement, the format is: `Plagiarism: COLL_ID` where `COLL_ID` is the ID of the collection. Example: `Plagiarism: 924cf81bb52a1b5c57-PASTELBEACHMALL`.

Put your arguments into the body of the proposal, rich markdown (tables etc) is supported. The more proof / arguments, the better:

- if proposing for curation, make sure you include arguments such as an artist's past performance, their volume metrics, their originality, whether or not they have identity set up, etc.
- if proposing for a plagiarism flag, you **must** include proof - links to existing media that proves these materials existed elsewhere in some form or are infringing on some copyright or trademark.

The **Snapshot** value determines the block time on which the token balance is counted. This means moving token balances around to get more votes won't count after this block number. It defaults to "now".

The voting period for curation proposals must be **7 days**. The voting period for plagiarism reports must be **3 days**. The start date should be set to the day of the proposal's creation.

### Voting by Proxy

In some cases, RMRK tokens are held by multisig wallets in which case it is difficult to log in and vote. Such accounts should set up a proxy account, and when voting by proxy input the multisig, but use the proxy (from the Polkadot JS extension) to vote.

## Counting Votes: Turnout Bias

Following the voting method available on Dotsama chains via the democracy pallet, we now look at turnout to determine the passing of a proposal according to a relative super-majority.

In other words, the more people vote on a proposal, the fewer YES votes are needed to pass it. If all 10 million RMRK tokens show up to vote, then the outcome is a simple majority (50%+).

> Note that there is no token locking for votes, as opposed to on-chain voting in the various Dotsama chains. The tokens remain unlocked after you vote.

## Multi-chain Voting

The OpenSquare UI can now read balances from multiple chains, allowing you to vote with RMRK from Statemine, Bifrost, or Karura.

MOVR is a little harder because it uses a different address format and it is currently not very easy to bind an EVM address to a Substrate one, but this feature is coming.

This does mean that if you have balances on multiple chains, you can choose to log in with each wallet separately and vote several times. In turnout-biased voting this does not matter, but it does in Quadratic Voting.

By being an active participant in this effort, you are helping improve [Singular.app](https://singular.app) for _everyone_. You _might_ also be rewarded in some other way after enough participation, but this is still being discussed and in no way a promise or guarantee.

We'd like to tell you about some changes on Singular!

## Migration

You can now migrate your old RMRK 1 collections to the new RMRK 2 standard using the context menu next to a collection's title.

Things to keep in mind:

- when the migration process is initiated, it does **NOT** automatically move each owner's NFT. Instead it:
    - takes ownership of the RMRK1 collection (changes issuer), disabling creation of new NFTs in the RMRK1 version.
    - makes a new RMRK2 collection with the same ID.
    - clones every RMRK1 NFT from the collection into the RMRK2 collection, but keeps ownership of these clones.
    - enables the "MIGRATE" option for every NFT in the RMRK1 collection. When owners click this option, the NFT is burned on the RMRK1 end, and the RMRK2 clone is sent to their address.

The NFTs that can be migrated will be pointed out like this:

## Burn Note

When burning an NFT you can now set a Burn Note.

This note is something that is logged alongside the BURN transaction and can be fetched by indexers or by manually inspecting the transaction. Issuers can use this for all sorts of purposes - merch redeems, whitelist participation, and more.

## Collection Locking and Ownership Transfer

You can now transfer ownership of a collection to someone else. This is useful for selling the IP rights, moving to a new account if the original is compromised, or other scenarios.

You can also LOCK a collection now, permanently limiting its number of maximum NFTs. This is useful when you mistakenly set it as unlimited or do not know how many NFTs it will contain before you decide to "seal" it. A locked collection cannot be unlocked.

Since the original announcement of land sales, the interest and engagement from the community has really blown us away.  Many ideas - some too good to ignore and pass up - were put forward by our community. Consequently, we need more time to incorporate these ideas.

Coupled with the onboarding of new developers, and basic [risk mitigation](https://decrypt.co/98530/aku-ethereum-nft-launch-ends-with-34m-locked-in-flawed-smart-contract) through repeated play testing, and giving ambassadors enough time to "break" the platform and find bugs forces us to postpone the land sale to ensure it is a smooth experience for everyone.

Additionally, aligning with our quest to continue to offer value for our community, we developed a [background land discount system](https://rmrk.gitbook.io/kanaria-skybreach/fundamentals/equippables/backgrounds). Adding this feature dramatically increased the complexity of the land sale process, so to prevent this from disrupting the user-experience, we will be rolling out a new approach to allow background owners a method to apply a discount once-per-background and we need to provide these community members with enough time to apply the discount before land sales commence.

The land vouchers still have to be used by 31st May, and any unused vouchers WILL expire after this date. When you use (i.e., burn) your voucher, you receive a credit on your MOVR account and this credit will **NOT** expire regardless of when the land sale begins. The UI to check your whitelist status will be out in the next 7-10 days.

## Multi-resource Carousel

You can now inspect multi-resource NFTs right from people's spaces or the explore and home page by flipping through resources. The carousel should be familiar to users of Airbnb or e-commerce sites. The NFT card will also contain an icon indicating that an NFT is multi-resource.

## Minor UX and UI fixes

- NFT cards no longer contain the USD value in KSM. Inspecting the NFT in detail will show it, but to reduce card-view noise, we opted to focus on KSM value only. This is us preparing the terrain for xcRMRK as a purchase currency too.
- When burning [Skybreach](https://skybreach.app) land vouchers on [Singular](https://singular.app), the UI will now check whether your input is a valid EVM address

During the tail end of March, one of our Discord community moderators has been targeted in an intricate social engineering hack, and lost access to her account.

The scammers have taken control of a large part of the RMRK discord, deleted some channels, and posted fake announcements with a phishing link.

The hack originated in the V1 Punks Discord, but every server where this person had mod or admin rights was affected.

Luckily, the damage on the RMRK side of the community was small (16k USD total). While everyone needs to take responsibility for links they click and transactions they sign, RMRK cares about our community and consequently we have refunded those affected either partially or in full, or through compensation, depending on their engagement in the community and damage suffered.  Refunding for matters like this will not be something we do again, so please carefully read the points below.

It goes without saying that basic opsec should be observed to stay safe at all times. Follow these basic rules:

- do not use Discord's web app. Only use Discord's standalone app. That app is also just a packaged up browser, but its context is isolated so the 2FA session is not in localstorage up for grabs to any enthusiastic hacker.
- always double check announcements with additional official channels before aping in. We will **NEVER** post something so time-sensitive that you need to react immediately.
- always be extra skeptical if any announcement is published that has anything to do with Ethereum. We do not launch on Ethereum, and if we ever do, announcements far more official and permanent than Discord messages will be made well ahead of time.
- keep your high value NFTs and FTs on a separate stash wallet. Long-term holds should be far away from your hot wallet. So if you know you like to impulsively click on links and sign transactions on random websites, please do this using a wallet that contains nothing of value.
- no team member of RMRK will ever ask you for any financial aid in any way, nor will we ever ask you to "verify your W A L L E T". In fact, you can be sure that all DMs from "us" are scams.
- if an offer/announcement seems too good to be true, 99% of the time it is. You won't be winning anything by clicking on it, but some scammer will be winning your precious crypto.

This was neither the first Discord hack nor will it be the last. Until Discord and Telegram add adequate protection methods, and until basic opsec becomes second nature to most people, this sort of stuff will keep happening, and the refund we did in this case should be considered an exception, not precedent.

Remember, in web3, you are your own bank. Be careful!

Post mortem of March Discord Hack

Njord and Njordson are [Kanaria gems](https://url.rmrk.app/gems) that give their holders (technically, the holders of the NFT birds holding the gems) 19.7% of revenue from the RMRK team's future profits. For details, please see linked post.

## Getting a Njord/son gem

You can only get a Njord/son gem by buying a bird which holds one. To find all Njord/son gems for sale, go to the [Gems catalog in Kanaria](https://kanaria.rmrk.app/catalogue?nftType=gems&page=1&sortBy=serialNumber) and find the one you want, then click on it. The table underneath the Gem's image will contain a list of all such gems for sale.

## What if my Njord/son bird is with Kucoin?

Kucoin have had instructions on how to send birds out since August 2021, and they have been processing withdrawals since, but it is possible some birds still haven't left their nest.

Njordson Report: April 2022

RMRK has been voted in by the community to become a _sufficient asset_ on Statemine.

As a reminder, [Statemine](https://www.parity.io/blog/statemint-generic-assets-chain-proposing-a-common-good-parachain-to-polkadot-governance/) is a common-good parachain which does not have to participate in Polkadot’s chain auction model, and instead occupies a permanent slot connected to the relay chain. Its purpose is to be a lightweight balance-keeping ledger of basic fungible and non fungible tokens.

To be able to receive and send tokens on Statemine, accounts need to be initialized with some KSM - Kusama’s native token - and use KSM for transaction fees. This is to prevent spam on the chain.

As RMRK is now sufficient, it is no longer necessary to pay transaction fees in KSM or have KSM deposits in accounts to use the RMRK token on Statemine. This makes integration with centralized exchanges much simpler, and enables use cases such as trading and minting NFTs using RMRK as a currency, directly on the chain level.

Therefore, the token [migration](https://app.subsocial.network/@rmrkapp/rmrk-token-migration-karura-30899) from Statemine to Karura and other chains is now canceled: there is no longer a time limit for extracting RMRK out of Statemine, and the tokens can be left there indefinitely.

RMRK Sufficiency on Statemine

Ever since Singular has been updated to support sending any NFT into any other NFT, a common question the team has recieved is "why is it required to list the price of every child NFT when selling a parent?"

We realize this is inconvenient, and the reason for this is sometimes hard to understand, but at the core of the issue is artist protection and enforcement of fair royalties.

Let us explain with an example.

## Example

Let's assume Bob mints "Fruit Crate" NFTs, and 100 "Green Apple" NFTs. He set the royalties on each of those at 5%.

Assuming Alice obtains 1 of each, she now has a Green Apple and a Fruit Basket. 

Later on, Charlie mints 5 "Gold Apple" NFTs, and Alice obtains one. The royalty is 10%.

Assume now that she puts the apples into the basket.

Now, let's assume Alice wants to sell her fruit basket, containing the apples.

She must list a price for the apples and the parent separately. Why?

If Alice lists just the Fruit Basket for 100 KSM, then only Bob would get 5 KSM of royalties from that, and Charlie would get nothing.

If Alice lists the Fruit Basket at 50 KSM, the Green Apple for 5 KSM, and the Gold Apple for 45 KSM, we achieve the following:

1. Charlie gets 4.5 KSM because the royalty can now be applied to his work too.
2. Bob gets 2.75 KSM, as 5% of 55 KSM (Green Apple + Basket)

### Caveats

Granted, there are caveats with this approach.

1. Each child is buyable separately if listed with its own price. This is by design, because if we do not do this, it is easy to set the price of the Gold Apple as 1 KSM instead of its actual value of 45 KSM in order to rob Charlie of his royalties. As such, the apple MUST be buyable separately.
2. When all the children have the same issuer and royalty, it is not necessary to list the child prices individually, but we do not currently reflect this in the UI. We are working on this improvment.
3. For convenience with NFTs that contain a lot of low-value child NFTs, we will also add an "apply price to all children" button to speed up the listing process. U
