**DeFi Liquidity.**

It's true that users can provide liquidity w/ any assets on DEX purposely is to make a token price stabilized.

Yet, it's time consume, and the process always use too much resources. Sometimes, it requires Treasury fund.

**Problem With XCM,**

Transferring an asset from one to another is simple, fast, and secure. But, you must transfer the asset that already had liquidity built up.

Take **xcKAR** transferred from Karura to MoonRiver as an example.

Of course, it can be transferred via XCM to another Parachain. Also, it is possible to swap but the price impact is dramatically high due to low liquidity.

This is where **DOT and upcoming aUSD came in.** DOT liquidity has been built up for awhile during the XCM early phase. Acting as a XCM test asset on Polkadot, users can send it seamlessly between Parachain.

**Swap. Lend. Liquid.**

**With the reason I provided,**

Until the liquidity for most assets has been created and price stabilized. Sending xx token to another Parachain might not be an option, that’s why DOT will be a top choice for transferring during this early state. Then swap to its native, stablecoin, lend, or even liquid. After this, it’s up to you.

## How about DeFi ?

Do you remember when you first used DEX ? First Yield in your life time ?

If not, let this old man reminds you,

Let say you only had **GLMR** in your wallet, you would need to calculate another asset equally to make a pair, then Swap. Ooooff, you calculated wrong, b/c you got C in math!

Let’s be honest, if your daily used DEX does not have this function, with my laziness and stupidity in math, it is not much users-friendly. But with DEX like [StellaSwap](https://app.stellaswap.com/exchange/zap), users can have an asset put the amount they would like to make a pair then Zap⚡️. Auto calculate it to a pair, all users need to do later is to stake, pretty easily and convenient !

Then.. I use Lending Platform like Aave to deposit AVAX but the market is too volatile, I would like to swap it immediately. But the process will be Withdraw AVAX on Aave → Swap on UniSwap, Curve to StableCoin → Deposit again on Aave

Is it too long ?

Absolutely, the process is very long and frustrating.

GEEEEZ, someone just dumped their AVAX and I have it on Aave.

Swap AVAX → USDC

Aave can achieve this b/c it has DEXes built as backend such as Curve and UniSwap to make users more convenient. To make this function happened, they need huge liquidity .

Bridging to another network with out swapping to available assets on the bridge. Sometimes, you are holding an asset which is not supported by the bridge.

ex. I would like to use MOVR, but I can’t due to the another side does not have ASTR liquidity to swap.

Take **USDC** as an example :

As you can see from the initial deposit of 100 USDC, we can leverage it to 336.1 which is 3.36x times with 5 loops. Makai can be customized 1.65x, 2.69x, or 3x. You name it.

**\*Loan to Value(LTV)** means the maximum percentage can be borrowed from the capital you put in.

**How about Makai 5x times with the same asset ?**

## **Loop function up to 5x**

I get it 5x times but why don’t ASTR or DOT have this option of 5x ? Is this a bug?

No, this is not a bug.

The reason behind this is because the **LTV** of assets you chose such as ASTR, and DOT do not reach 80% unlike Stablecoin (USDC, USDT, DAI, BUSD) which is a less volatile asset in crypto space.

## **Latest update : Reverse Makai**

No need to deleverage on the dashboard anymore.

After we launched Makai, many users told us they really wish the solution to exit the function within a single click like when entering the position. This is because in order to exit Makai position, they have to do it manually on Dashboard by slowly withdrawing an assets on the Deposit side then repay on the Borrow side while monitoring Health Factor which must be above 1 to prevent Liquidated event from happened.

We listened. With **Reverse Makai,**single click to exit Makai position, its purpose is to ease users at its finest.

## **Any Risk using Makai ?**

Technically, there is no risk of using Makai because you deposit and borrow the same asset. There will be a small percentage of interest which increases overtime.

But of course, nothing in DeFi space is risk free. Please do not put your live saving or the money you cannot afford to lose in a single protocol.

Here is the crucial one :

On Starlay, there is APY which means interest. If it is on the deposit side, this means you gain interest from that asset you are lending.

**You lend ETH, you get ETH.**

On the opposite side for borrowing, this APY means the interest you have to pay which will increase every second and variable. The stable interest has not been implemented yet.

**You borrow ETH, you pay ETH.**

However, if the APY exceeds the Borrowing side causing the interest sky high to the moon, then you might get liquidated as the increasing interest will affect the Health Factor to go below 1.

Then… liquidated.

To solve this issue, Stable interest will be added in the near future.

Briefly, Stable interest will stay in the same % either the market is up or down. It is a useful tool for longterm borrowers to prevent the mentioned possibility above.

Though the function is still in experimental state, Makai is a very useful one for lending protocol to reduce time and effort for users looping with their own hand. Please be careful if you had HF (Health Factor) below 1, this could cause you to lose funds.

Explain me like I am 5, Makai

## **Just before I decided to publish..**

There was a news reported by [PeckShield Inc.](https://twitter.com/peckshield) that **Harmony One Bridge** has been hijacked by a malicious Hacker(s). Frustrating, many yield farmers and multi-chain yield opportunity seekers lost around 100$ MM in the incident. And, this is not the first time.

**The deeper I dig, the deeper I found** that the thing they called ‘Trustless Bridge’ from Harmony One. It is not trustless as they advertised. The bridge’s controlled by a small group of people, by small I mean 4 members. This means if those **2 out of 4 accounts** holding multi-sig wallet got compromised, they can manipulate the fund freely resulted in all fund lost.

Hopefully, they won’t change their name to **Harmony Zero** soon. Hopefully.

As after the incident, users lost faith in Harmony pulling fund more and more, and counting. It might take months or even a year to recover the trust from the users back again.

## How can XCM prevent this?

XCM is a trustless bridge on Polkadot ecosystem connecting Parachains together without using centralized solution like multi-sig.

**How does it works?**

> Channels are fully safe, secure bridges between parachains. Unlike other bridging protocols, which introduce a 'weakest-link' problem, messages across XCMP channels are secured at the same level as the relay chain.

> Parachains open channels to other parachains by sending an XCM message to the relay-chain instructing it to open the channel (and inform the remote chain of the request).

Not only you will be able to transfer a token between Parachains, but NFT can also be transferred as well to find dApp that can operate **NFTFi**.

## Yield Farmer meet XCM

**Every time**I found a yield opportunity and degen transferring an asset for juicy APY between Chains using Centralized Bridge, I have a feeling that the bridge might be hacked during the time my fund is in the process of transferring and submitting by the identity.

It is depressed to lose a fund this way tbh, I would rather lose my fund with an Impermanent Loss or even Rug.

Yet, with the reasons I mentioned above about XCM

**"Do or do not. There is no try."**

Currently, **XCM is enable on Polkadot.** DOT can be moved freely between Parachain and Relaychain

3. **Astar** : LP on ArthSwap, Dot Collateral on AstridDAO, Lending DOT on Starlay Finance.

4. **Parallel Finance** : Liquid DOT, Lending DOT

If you are not satisfied with a Yield on a protocol or even Parachain itself, simply just move the DOT to another one.

Not only XCM creates a trustless bridge but it also creates **a huge competition**between the dApps on the Parachain and between Parachains.

**How to get $ARSW? 📢**

Currently, **ARSW is not listed on any exchanges**, the only option here is to provide liquidity on ArthSwap, the native dApp on Astar Network.

Astar Network has its own native token, ASTR. Then, how can I get ASTR? There are 2 options — Exchange (e.g. Huobi, Kucoin, Gate.io) and Bridge from other networks using cBridge (e.g. Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, Shiden and more..)

**Let’s get started ⁉**

To **create a wallet**, visit https://polkadot.js.org/ then click **Extension**, download

1. Write down a mnemonic seed phrase on **paper**, do not screenshot or save photos on a digital copy
2. Create the wallet, Choose **Allow to use on Any Chain (or Astar)**
3. Choose Name and Password
4. Head to https://portal.astar.network/ , connect your Polkadot.js wallet to Astar Portal5. There, you will be able to see **Two Types of Wallet Addresses** which are **Native and EVM**
5. Copy Native address

**Congrats** 🎉 

Now, you have the address that will be the destination to send ASTR from Exchange.

*Please do not send ASTR from Exchange to MetaMask directly, your fund could be lost ⛔

**From Exchange to Astar Portal ✨**

At the time of writing, the Exchanges which supports ASTR are Huobi, OKx, Gate.io, and Kucoin ( more can be checked later on CMC and coingecko )

1. After you got **Native Address** on Astar Portal, paste the address on Wallet Address.

2. Choose **Astar Network** and Amount

3. Sent. Done!

4. Your sent fund will be visible on the Transferable amount on Astar Portal

**MetaMask, Astar Network 🦊**

In order to provide liquidity on ArthSwap, you will need to send ASTR from Astar Portal to MetaMask which added Astar Network.

Start downloading Fox Extension, then add **Custom RPC** as follow

Symbol: ASTR

Explorer: https://blockscout.com/astar

**Portal to MetaMask 🌉**

1. On https://portal.astar.network/ , choose Transfer
2. Copy Astar MetaMask Address
3. Paste Astar Network MetaMask address and put the amount you would like to send
4. Confirm

**MetaMask to Portal 🌉**

**Note** that sending ASTR from MetaMask directly to Exchange is not recommended and the fund could be lost.

The best route will be:

1. On Portal, copy **EVM address**
2. Open MetaMask, send, then paste the address **you copied from Portal on MetaMask**
3. After you submitted a transaction to send ASTR from MetaMask to Portal, ASTR will be sent to **EVM Deposit**
4. You will need to **Withdraw EVM Deposit**

If you do not have ASTR to pay gas fee on Portal, click Faucet to get some dust to pay the fee
Now, you got all the funds from EVM, you will be able to send ASTR to Exchange normally.

**Provide Liquidity 💧**

Create LP, no need to stake LP. $ARSW will be visible around February and transferable included listed on March.

1. Head to app.arthswap.org , **approve the site on MetaMask**
2. Swapping **ASTR to wASTR** (native ASTR is not supported)
3. Swap **wASTR to another token** you want to create a pair
4. Click **Pool**
5. Provide Liquidity
6. Done!
