Bitcoin Giants: Who Holds the Most BTC Among Companies and Exchanges

Interesting read by Jamie and it elucidate me about the companies who hold the most Bitcoin in the world and there are some surprises, at least for me. I always thought that Binance was the biggest Bitcoin holder but for my surprise it's Coinbase.

The American crypto and custodian exchange hold more than 1M Bitcoins! They are ranking top on the holders, followed by Binance who doesn't stay that far from them with their more than 750,000 Bitcoin in vault.

Those are the top Hodlers if we classify crypto exchanges, but the biggest spot Bitcoin ETF is Blackrock with their stash on more than 357,000 Bitcoins. Microstrategy is the Nasdaq company with the major holdings in Bitcoin with more than 252,000 Bitcoins after their recent buys in the market.

Here's the complete list of the crypto exchanges, spot Bitcoin ETFs and companies holding the most Bitcoins in the planet:

  1. Coinbase - 1,051,650.41 BTC
  2. Binance - 765,072.92 BTC
  3. Bitfinex - 359,687.52 BTC
  4. Blackrock - 357,550.21 BTC
  5. Microstrategy - 213,996.14 BTC (though it secures 252,220 BTC according to its statements)
  6. Kraken - 237,900.9 BTC
  7. Grayscale's GBTC - 220,439.82 BTC
  8. U.S. Government - 204,302.34 BTC
  9. Fidelity's FBTC Fund - 178,191.25 BTC

Of course there are more HODLers, but this are the major players securing Bitcoin in the universe. While they have those big bags, it's important to understand that many of this companies are HODLing Bitcoin from people who keep them with the Exchanges.

For example, Coinbase have their own stash of Bitcoin but also hold coins from their partners as Custodian so, in fact that 1M coins in Bitcoin can include those Bitcoin in it.

Interesting also is to see that all the coins in the list are from people, who trusted crypto exchanges, spot Bitcoin ETFs and companies to hold their stash. While that is good, it's also dangerous as the exchanges are the ones securing the private keys of those Bitcoins.

It's important to always trust yourself and use mostly your non-custodial wallet to keep your funds safe. Remember: "not your keys, not your crypto!"
