Wait, People Are Still Spending Millions on NFTs? Cryptopunks Are Back!

Last week, the famous Cryptopunks were in the spotlight, with one of them getting acquired for a whopping $308,000 worth in crypto. More were bought for over $90,000 each, and I am trying to understand what those JPEGs have that make people spend so much on them.

In the past, those NFTs were valued at millions, and it was crazy to see that trend in the market, with people trading and making big bucks from it. It was a massive movement of money that sometimes made me feel like, "Maybe something’s wrong with me; where did those guys find all that money?" These traders made it seem like millions in assets were nothing, contrasting with the reality of a world where most people are suffering for various reasons, and finances are one of them.

That trend finally stopped, and just when we thought NFTs were dead, there are moves like these! Paying almost half a million dollars for one JPEG was a trend in the past—I know the recent one is still past—but this dude just made that move and sniped that Cryptopunk! What am I not seeing here? Is this a new way to "wash" trade or what?

I seriously want to know why people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on such investments nowadays. Are they seeing something that we aren’t? Maybe we should look closer.
