Crysis 4 Blocked Indefinitely: Crytek Layoffs

It seems that we will have to wait a very long time before we see Crysis 4 in action: not only has Crytek put its development on hold, but the company has also made staff cuts equal to 15% of its workforce.

Specifically, the company has fired at least 60 employees by implementing an internal reorganization that changes priorities: the team is now mainly focused on Hunt Showdown 1896, the live-service Extraction Shooter originally released in 2019 and still regularly supported by Crytek. Consequently, also due to the reduction in staff, Crytek at this time cannot continue with its original plans and must make some drastic choices.

"Like many of our peers, we are not immune to the complex and adverse market dynamics that have affected our industry in recent years. It pains us to announce 15% of our 400 employees, which will also affect projects in development and ongoing services. This was not an easy decision to make given how much we value the hard work of our talent. We have paused development of the new Crysis in Q3 2024 in an effort to shift our staff to support Hunt Showdown. And while Hunt Showdown continues to grow, Crytek cannot continue as before to remain sustainable," reads a statement from the company.

Crytek is still ensuring continued and massive support for Hunt Showdown 1896, continuing to expand it further in the future, as well as continuing with plans already in place to enhance its CryEngine. However, at this time, it remains unknown when work on Crysis 4 will resume following the pause that occurred in recent months.

At first it seemed like Crysis 4 would take precedence over everything else, considering the studio had canceled a battle royale game codenamed Crysis Next. Now, however, the future of the series appears uncertain.
