PS5: Sony has great expectations for 2025, also thanks to first-party games
With the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play now filed away, Sony is now fully focused on the future and has high expectations for the new fiscal year that will start on April 1, as PlayStation President Hiroki Totoki clearly hints during a meeting with shareholders.
Totoki claims that 2025 will be a big year for PlayStation thanks to the arrival of several flagship games not only from third parties but also first-party ones, such as Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 On The Beach coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 this year. "For the next fiscal year, which will run from April 2025 to March 2026, we expect to release very good games and accordingly have high expectations for our business performance," Totoki said during the meeting with shareholders.
Several flagship games are also expected for the current year from a third-party perspective, with Grand Theft Auto VI in particular that could completely steal the scene, revealing itself to be an immense success, all to the advantage of the Sony-branded video game sector. Therefore, the PlayStation president's optimism for the next fiscal year is more than understandable if all these big names actually see the light in the coming months.
Totoki's statements come at a time of decline on the software side: sales of Sony games on PS5 have dropped, probably due to the less than brilliant performance of titles such as LEGO Horizon Adventures and Until Dawn Remake. With the release of Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2 later in 2025, however, the situation could reverse in an advantageous way.
