Star Wars, according to an author of the saga, politics is very important
The Star Wars movie about Rey is a big risk for the franchise, given the less than enthusiastic reception reserved by most to Daisy Ridley's character during the sequel trilogy. The words of its screenwriter, however, lead us to think that the idea is to focus heavily on some elements very dear to George Lucas.
George Nolfi, author of the film that could be crucial for the future of Star Wars according to the latest rumors, has in fact underlined how politics is a fundamental aspect of the franchise: "If you think about George Lucas, the six films he has made and the universe he has created, there are a lot of concepts inherent to politics. There is no explicit talk of current events, but there is the Nazi Empire/Roman Empire. The democratic aspects of the Roman Empire collapsing and the eternal history of human beings organizing themselves to resist chaos" were his words.
Nolfi continued: "I think that's a central aspect of what George Lucas wanted to talk about. And one of the great things about Star Wars and science fiction in general is that you can talk about very deep issues without it feeling like a philosophy class or a political science class or the news you read in the paper this morning."
