The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Aragorn to be in the film: Viggo Mortensen returning?
The new Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum film is currently in production, but during a recent promotional interview the producers revealed some interesting previews, such as the confirmation of the return of Aragorn, the iconic character of Viggo Mortensen.
Speaking to The Playlist, the writer of the Lord of the Rings saga Philippa Boyens, responsible for the franchise together with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, confirmed that Aragorn is included in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and that the role has been offered to Viggo Mortensen: the plan is to de-age him with makeup and CGI, but the actor will decide whether or not to accept after reading the script once it is finished.
"Honestly, whether Aragorn returns will depend on Viggo: we are approaching this film in a very collaborative way and we are still in the early stages," the author said. "I've talked to Viggo, Andy Serkis has talked to him, Peter Jackson has talked to him, and I honestly can't imagine anyone else playing Aragorn. But now it's completely and entirely up to Viggo. I know Andy wants to work with him, in which case we won't use AI but we'll use makeup and CGI de-aging techniques. Viggo will read the script and decide, for now we're still working on the script and when we finish it we'll give it to him: it'll be up to us to write a role good enough to convince him!"
