PlayStation categorical on AI: 'Revolutionary but will not replace the human mind'

Artificial intelligence is now a fairly widespread reality in the video game industry. Reports estimate that 62% of developers use AI and their use seems destined to increase in the future. For an important PlayStation executive, however, they will not be able to replace the human mind.

Hermen Hulst, co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, touched on the issue during an interview with the BBC, arguing that AI has the potential to revolutionize the video game industry, but at the same time human intervention remains crucial in the development of a video game and the only way to give it a precise and quality direction.

"I suspect there will be a dual demand in Gaming: one that will ask for innovative experiences powered by AI, and one that will ask for handcrafted and thoughtful content. Finding the right balance between leveraging AI and preserving the human touch will be crucial," says Hulst about the possible future for the gaming world now that artificial intelligence has become a concrete reality that continues to spark thoughts and debates among enthusiasts and professionals.

However, video games entirely created with AI are certainly becoming a reality, with this sector that in the coming years could undergo very important and radical transformations if the right balance mentioned by Hulst in his speech is not found.
