#1525 · Please vote NAY

We’re stepping back from this proposal.

Over the past few months, we shared parts of our roadmap with many people across the ecosystem. In those conversations, the idea of issuing usernames was occasionally mentioned and, at no point, did anyone raise a concern about it, or about the possibility of multiple authorities being an issue.

Based on the current on-chain logic, and after testing that confirmed everything works as expected (including with Chopsticks), we moved forward in good faith. Only after the proposal went live did concerns emerge about a potential future change to enforce a single-authority model within the identity pallet.

To avoid unnecessary confusion, we’ve chosen to withdraw and decline the proposal.

We’re sincerely grateful to everyone who supported the initiative with votes, feedback, and encouragement. That support reflects the trust this community has placed in our vision.

Inspired by the first username authority proposal made by Parity at https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/referenda/1177 seeking to provide .DOT usernames through their new upcoming Polkadot mobile application, this proposal aims to make PolkaIdentity also an username authority.

We believe that PolkaIdentity has already demonstrated its success by being the first fully automated platform focused exclusively on identities at People Chain.

With that expertise, we believe we can accelerate the adoption of the usernames through the Polkadot ecosystem, allowing users to register their username and providing the necessary tools and clients for other services like mobile wallets and dApps can start using this feature.

Hi there,

Unfortunately the code in this proposal that will execute will actually replace the Polkadot Community Foundation authority being able to issue .dot usernames — which will mean the Polkadot app username registration will be bricked/broken.

There _should_ only be one authority per username, it would be odd from a product point of view to have multiple authorities being able to regiseter / manage these usernames.

Given the above I will have to vote NAY and strongly urge the community to also vote nay as to not brick the Polkadot App / cause issues with the launch of the product.

It is impossible for me to adequately thank Supreme Peregrine Recovery for their amazing support. Upon learning that my close friend had stolen my phone to gain access to private work data, I felt utterly deceived and devastated. Nevertheless, the staff at Supreme Peregrine Recovery took over and gave me the knowledge I had lost. They showed professionalism and understanding as soon as I contacted them. They helped me locate my stolen phone by using sophisticated recovery methods that I never would have imagined were possible. Their commitment to assisting me in recovering my device and safeguarding my data was absolutely astounding. I was able to retrieve my phone and protect my private information because of their prompt action and careful investigation. In addition to giving me my peace of mind back, Supreme Peregrine Recovery assisted me in handling a very trying circumstance with quickness and kindness. I heartily endorse their services to anyone dealing with such problems.
