I like the idea of having options for storage. Web 2.0 platforms offer tiered membership: X has Basic, Premium, Premium+ which brings in revenue. Then they have advertising for free members to pay with their personal data.







Here's my take:







1) Free storage with a threshold is a good motivator. It encourages quality content creation while keeping storage costs manageable for applications. 200 SUB seems like a reasonable starting point to have your content stay on Web 3 forever! This will help weed creators just reposting HQ content created by others with just a few words or people posting memes by the dozens - it's all fun and games until you start looking at those spiraling database costs and the servers required to retrieve, process and deliver the data to the end-users. I learnt this first hand.



2) Offering a paid extension for storage below the 200 $SUB threshold is a good safety net. This caters to users who might have a lot of content or content not meeting the threshold reward limit for free storage.



3) Overall, a hybrid approach seems ideal. It balances the needs of applications and users, promoting a healthy ecosystem.



4) What about exploring other options? Maybe tiered storage plans could be offered, with different costs based on storage capacity. This would give users more flexibility depending on their needs.



5) The key operational question is therefore, how long (in days, weeks, months) will the creator have to earn those 200 in $SUB? What's the time limit?



Just my two cents! Excited to see how Grill tackles this.

I think the storage space should be paid for by the applications. If the idea is to attract more and more users, it seems to me that making them pay something more (stake, cost per transaction), is not a good idea. Users of traditional social networks are not used to paying for storage. I know that "if the service is free, you're the product", and the advantages of decentralization, etc., but I doubt that this matters to the average user. 

Now how applications might go about paying for storage is another matter. There are many models and it would be necessary to evaluate which one is the most convenient (some of these options I don't like, but I mention them anyway): advertisements, offer some premium features, promote in the frontend some posts in exchange for SUBs, be the beneficiary of a very small percentage of each post, etc.

With the current rate of growth, I feel this discussion is really important as someday it will be really tough to manage storage. The current scenario speaks that this should be done by application for the next few months as we are progressing  really well and if we create a barrier to entry it will be tough to onboard new users, and as soon as we move forward we can take 50:50 route where the users and applicant pay for content storage or as the community has shared we can go through the hybrid model.

It's a good idea to maintain the platform. My suggestion is to consider implementing a hybrid model wherein both the application and users contribute to the storage costs. The application could cover basic storage needs, and users would have the option to contribute as supporters. Give all creators and Stakers the option to opt-in as supporters or not. If someone chooses to opt-in, ask them what percentage of their weekly rewards they want to contribute, providing them with a range between 1% to 10%. Additionally, you can incentivize supporters with a "Top Supporter leaderboard" or "Supporter badges".

I think a simpler approach might be even better for Grillapp.  Instead of making users jump through hoops to earn storage space, why not offer a base level of free storage for everyone?  This would keep things user-friendly, especially for casual users.  People who need more space can always buy it, but nobody feels forced to pay upfront just to keep their stuff.  This way, Grillapp can still make money from storage needs, but it won't feel like a paywall for basic functionality.  Ultimately, teh best choice depends on who Grillapp is trying to attract and how they want to make money, but a freemium model seems like a strong contender here.

I bring an idea to pay for storage, I don't know if it could work or not. It consists in creating an official automated account, something like "Grill funds for storage". That account would publish a post a day, explaining what the fund is about. Those who want to contribute, like that post. The earnings from the account are used to pay for storage and the surplus is staked, all in a transparent and automated way. If the earnings are greater than the expenditure, the stake of the account can grow and perhaps at some point it could pay for storage without the need for contributions. In order to gain stake earnings and incentivize participation, such an account could like 10 random posts each day from those who contributed to the fund the previous day. In addition, it could accept donations and/or receive an initial contribution from the team. Does this sound like something that could work?

The current model states that if the user wants to earn should stake the 2000 SUB tokens. What we can do is increase this amount to, let's say, 3000 SUB tokens.



Let's assume a user has posted X number of content in a specific week, if the number of content increases to Y, we can deduct some amount from his earned rewards that he has got from lazy staking.



The team can come up with basic and reasonable plan of How much SUB will be deducted from how many post.



I believe this will foster a positive economic cycle, motivating users to contribute more content while also reducing the application's storage expenses.

Maybe a mix of both.  For those who don't have X number of SUB locked would have to pay to keep content longer, those with more than X should have content kept stored indefinately.
