Polkadot News

Referendum 246, cancelling Referendum 241 to upgrade Polkadot to runtime v1’000’000, after a problem was found in the equivalent runtime upgrade on Kusama, is now up for vote. https://polkadot.polkassembly.io/referenda/246

Reminder: conviction voting locking periods on Polkadot will be fixed in the next proposed runtime upgrade, with the base period increasing from 7 to 28 days. https://twitter.com/filippoweb3/status/1721311355423387721

Polkadot conviction locking periods were erroneously set to Kusama periods in the last runtime upgrade, allowing for earlier unlocks than expected. For specific locking periods, see that section of the Wiki: https://wiki.polkadot.network/docs/learn-polkadot-opengov#voluntary-locking

With a day and a half left in the current parachain lease auction, Parallel has been in the lead the entire Ending Period so far. https://parachains.info/auctions

Interested in why one should build a parachain when one could simply make a smart contract? You can see a good explanation of the differences and trade-offs between the two on the Polkadot Wiki: https://wiki.polkadot.network/docs/build-smart-contracts#difference-between-developing-a-smart-contract-and-a-parachain

Kusama News

After the latest Kusama relay chain upgrade, an issue was seen with XCM transfers from some parachains. For details and the fix (necessary to be done by the parachain, not individual users), see Bryan Chen’s Twitter post here: https://twitter.com/XiliangChen/status/1722546330382565572

The current parachain lease auction has just entered the Ending Period and Turing Network is in the lead. https://parachains.info/auctions/kusama
