Today the Oasis Foundation had their 1st Community Town Hall. As you can imagine there was a tremendous amount of information covered, across a variety of topics, during this Town Hall. So here is a summary of the topics discussed. I will just be giving a very brief overview, so if something interests you, or you would like to know more, I have added time stamps to the part of the video corresponding to each topic.

***Technical Road Map to be built Q2/Q3 2021 (0:00- 4:04)***
**Oasis SDK** — Makes it simple to develop ParaTimes and Clients, and sets common standards.

**Oasis ParaTime SDK** — will incorporate; interoperability modules, WASM-based confidential Smart Contracts, SGX-based compute nodes, ROSE token to pay for fees.

**Cross ParaTime Communication** — standardizes specifications for ParaTimes to communicate to each other.

**Inter Blockchain Communication Protocol(IBC)** — Allows for communication with other networks which support IBC.

***What these new developments means for Oasis (4:04–12:18)***
* The Oasis team plans to build the “Oasis Protocol Foundation ParaTime,” which will be based on the new Oasis SDK. This will allow for new confidentiality features.
* These improvements to the network should provide a more flexible environment for developers. Developers can start building in a place that is convenient for them and later deploy on whichever environment they feel is best for that specific Smart Contract. This is done by leveraging Oasis’ flexible architecture, which allows for multiple development environments that can co-exist by sharing the same consensus layer.
* There are applications where it doesn’t make sense to start with confidentiality and privacy from the start. By using the new ParaTime interoperability designs it will allow developers build their applications and add privacy as needed, as the applications grows and gains adoption.
* ROSE is now available within ParaTimes such as the Oasis Ethereum ParaTime. This will allow ROSE to interact with dapps built on the Oasis Ethereum ParaTime.
* Decentralized Exchanges are being built, with and without confidentiality. The launch of these Dex’s will have liquidity mining incentive programs.

***ROSE -Ethereum Bridge (12:18–15:20)***
* This is a bridge to move tokens between the Oasis and Ethereum Networks. This allows tokens like ROSE to move to the Ethereum network and allows Ethereum based ERC-20 tokens to be used within DAPPs/DeFi on Oasis. The backend for the bridge is already developed and is currently being connected to the web wallet. It will be deployed this quarter on the new “Oasis Foundation Paratime.”
* The Bridge will be able to support any ERC-20 assets, although they will start with only a few.

***Oasis-ETH ParaTime (15:20–25:10)***
* The Oasis-ETH ParaTime will be integrating with the new Oasis SDK which will introduce the ROSE token into Oasis-Eth ParaTime. This will allow the ROSE token to be incorporated into DeFI and other dapps within the Oasis-ETH ParaTime. This will be released in the near future.
* They are currently working on the SOLL compiler which will allow Developers to generate their current Solidity based Smart Contracts into the new Ewasm format which should bring performance improvement.
* They are introducing a new Rust SDK which is one of the most popular programing languages. This will empower more developers to start building on the Oasis-ETH ParaTime. This new Rust SDK should be released this year.

***Figment (25:10–40:37)***
* Data Hub(built in November) — This an enriched API infrastructure and allows developers to easily connect applications to the Oasis blockchain. It is free to use up to 200k requests per day.
* Figment Learn — Launching for Oasis in July. It allows Web 2.0 developers to go from 0 to writing a Smart Contract within Oasis in 1 day. There will be 5 tutorials and will earn ROSE Tokens for completing these tutorials. There will also be the ability to earn ROSE tokens as a Developer, by building tutorials for others on the platform.
* Figment Capital — This is a venture capital arm of Figment. Please contact Figment if you are interested in building on top of the Oasis protocol and are looking for funding or other services.

***Grants (40:37–44:45)***
* Rose Bloom Grants program — $1.5 million program. Grants are worth up to $50k in ROSE for building apps and ecosystem tools, for the Oasis Network. This is live and applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis. Submit your applications today!
* Projects that have already received funding include; Non-custodial wallets (chrome extension and web wallet), Uniswap deployed on Oasis-ETH ParaTime, Private Dex Built on the Oasis Network.
* Priority projects they are looking to fund include project related to; NFT apps, auctions, and gallaries on Oasis-ETH, DeFi apps on Oasis-ETH, Lottery/Game apps on Oasis-ETH, Oasis Network blockexplorers.

***Non-custodial Web Wallet Demo (44:55- 50:28)***
* The wallet is currently still under development. Once it is finished it will be capable of handling mnemonic phrases, ledgers, and private key’s directly (which are not shared with a third party). It will also be allow users to have multiple wallets and have the ability to easily switch between them. The wallet will have a QR scanner for sending transactions as well.
* The wallet will also allow for easy staking within the wallet. This will include data about the validators so users can make educated decisions about which validators they would like to delegate to.
* Transactions will also be able to display the genesis hash, fees of the transaction, etc.
* The the wallet will eventually be composable with the ROSE-Ethereum Bridge
* The wallet is currently only translated in French, but before launch it will translated in as many languages as possible.
* There will be internal security audits from the Oasis team to make sure it secure.
***Community update (50:38-1:02:15)***
* The Rose Garden program unlocks in 4 days. There will be a Rose Garden 2.0 or some other community events coming in the future.
AMA’s have incorporated “earned quizzes” at the end. These are KYC dependent and provide the opportunity for users to earn ROSE tokens for participating in the AMA.
* University Programs — The amount of Universities are growing. Many of the Universities involved are some of the more reputable top-tier Universities in the world.
* The Oasis team will be doing more events on Clubhouse. These are intentionally not recorded in order provide organic live conversations.

*What is the technical Road Map for the Rosetta API from Oasis’ perspective (1:02:40–1:03:20)*
* The Rosetta API is very limited. It is made as an API that encompass all the different chains which limits its’ funtionality. It is still being supported and used by custody providers and exchanges.
*What is the plan for tokens on the Oasis blockchain and its’ various ParaTimes, and how will the tokens interact across them? (1:03:26–1:08:35)*
* The Oasis team has built a product that is between enterprises and blockchain developers and is able to serve both groups.
* On the blockchain development side, the Oasis team is currently focused on building the best infrastructure to enable features like token minting in the future. This is forward looking however as they want to make sure the infrastructure is built right before providing this capability.
* On the enterprise side the Oasis team notes that enterprises are starting to realize the beneficial features blockchains can enable such as transparency, portability, fractionalization, and interoperability.
The Oasis team is interested in creating dynamic NFTs which are dependent on data. The example given is for a NFT representing royalties for something like music streaming. The value of the NFT would be dependent on amount of streams and would be constantly changing. They are working on understanding the relationship between data and NFT’s as well as tokens in general.
* The next feature (soon) the Oasis team plans to enable is one which allows companies to benefit from blockchain, without having write blockchain code or deal with blockchain infrastructure. This will be done by representing assets via tokens whose value will be determined by data.
*How are gas fees made to be lower than that of ETH (1:09.20)*
1. Because the consensus layer can support many different parallel run times.
2. ParaTime committees can be smaller with a lower replication factor. This is possible due TEE’s, such as SGX, as well as utilization of randomized election and Oasis’ discrepancy detection technology.

* Privacy-preserving technologies are composable with one another which can give defense in depth. For example, differential privacy can be composed with confidential compute to implement on-chain differentially private queries that require tracking the privacy budget etc.
* The upcoming Oasis Protocol Foundation ParaTime will host confidential Smart Contracts and the ParaTime will use ROSE as the token.

* Theoretically the TPS is unbounded. Currently the Oasis team states 1,000 TPS as a conservative view based on the max speed of Tendermint’s consensus later which is used in Oasis.

* Dawn is the founder of Oasis Labs and is working full time with Oasis currently. Right now her focus is on bringing usage and liquidity to the network now.
* She is based in China which makes attending certain calls such as this one difficult, based on time zone differences. She has been doing a lot of events in China while there though, and the community can expect to see her in the future.

*Are there any details regarding how Oasis adoption is going in different regions around the world outside of the US?* 
* Oasis is accessible via the BSN API in China. The Oasis team is also working to expand their availability as a network to companies in China too

* The Yield Farming fThe BarnBridge team has been receiving requests from third party aggregators for data so they will be releasing an API which can be scraped for various forms of data.eature is not yet released. This delay is due to the team making the feature more robust and cleaner than originally intended.

* There will be a public Testnet released next week. It will be sperate from the development environment and will mimic the production application

* SE will likely be released soon after the new Smart Yield implementations are done.

* The BarnBridge team is aiming to be done with the English version by the end of next week.

* Bounty programs will be implemented for translations into other languages. These will be posted on Gitcoin.

***Business Development (20:46- 23:47)***
* The BarnBridge team is engaging in calls with traditional finance entities who are curious and trying to understand more about BarnBridge and may be looking to deploy capital into the protocol in the future.

* The BarnBridge team is working with the Chainlink team to leverage some of their price feeds for future products. They are also trying to get a BOND price feed provided by Chainlink. The BOND price feed is important because it is a prerequisite for some potential integrations which would like to leverage BarnBridge.

* The Chainlink team is also helping BarnBridge model and understand aspects of deploying on Matic since they have price feeds there as well.

* BarnBridge has joined the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance and will be onbo**arded sometime next week.

***Layer 2 (24:30- 26:43)***
* BarnBridge has been engaging with the Starkware ecosystem. The team believes it is becoming clear that the future will involve multiple Layer 2’s.

* As mentioned earlier the team is working to deploy on Matic and is in frequent contact with the Matic team.
Smart Yield does not really control its’ own Layer 2 destiny. They are built on top of AAVE, C.R.E.A.M, Compound, etc. and will go wherever they go.

* There will be more Layer 2 autonomy for Smart Exposure and Smart Alpha.

**Secondary Markets (30:00–33:15)**
* The BarnBridge team is looking into a strategy for developing secondary markets for ERC-20 jTokens and Senior Tranche NFTs, as well as potential future products.

* Liquid secondary markets are extremely important for onboarding larger institutions into the protocol.

* This is part of the rationale for the TVL incentivization programs such as the one for the junior tranche are necessary. TVL provides liquidity which bootstraps secondary market distribution. These liquid secondary markets will then attract more TVL as people know they can exit their positions before the bond has come due, if they desire.

**Chainlink Driving Smart Contract Adoption: Derivatives**
If you have been in the crypto space, you have probably heard the word "adoption". Adoption can be described for most as the promise that eventually blockchain will integrate with legacy systems bringing new found efficiencies to these systems. It was this promise of adoption, and prospective riches it could lead to, that gave steam to the cryptomarket rally of 2017. It was the realization that adoption was far off, that led to the devastating crash that followed. Almost three years later and it is starting to feel like the crypto space is getting ready to cash in on this promise of adoption. One project leading the charge of adoption is Chainlink.

Chainlink CEO, Sergey Nazarov, recently appeared live on Yahoo Finance, to talk about Bitcoin's recent rally. During his live appearance Sergey said,

"What we do at Chainlink, is we bring the technology that powers Bitcoin. To the derivatives market. To the global financial industry. To trade finance. To insurance…"

How close is Chainlink to bringing blockchain technology to these industries? Well Chainlink is already providing data in these areas in terms of decentralized finance (DeFi). Chainlink is currently powering crypto derivatives platform, Synthetix, as well as crypto insurance platform, Nexus Mutual. Both of these platforms skyrocketed, in terms of both price and use, during this Summers' DeFi boom. This is a great first step, but as mentioned earlier, for most people adoption is when blockchain will be integrated with legacy systems.

Is Chainlink close to integrating with Legacy systems though? In a post written the other day, I provided evidence that Chainlink may be close to adoption through an integration with payment service provider, PayPal. There might be an even greater opportunity for adoption though. Perhaps the most exciting and most frequently talked about of these 4 industries Sergey mentioned is Derivatives.
If they were close to integrating with traditional market derivative platforms which organizations and companies would they need to be associating with? If there was any one organization it would be The International Swaps and Derivatives Association(ISDA). ISDA is responsible for creating industry standards and provides legal definitions of terms used in derivative Contracts. These standards are used throughout the derivatives industry, in which trillions of dollars are transacted each year.

The majors goals of ISDA are described as "to promote and improve the trading of swaps and derivatives, to develop a standardized agreement to serve as a template for swaps traders, and to reduce counterparty risk, by increasing transparency and improving infrastructure."

It is by helping in each of these key areas that Chainlink can carve out its' place as a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain technology. As outlined in their blog post on October 11th 2019. The Chainlink team is working on fulfilling these needs for ISDA. They have sections geared to improving infrastructure, improving transparency, reducing counterparty risk, as well as streamlining the process. Additionally it seems ISDA is open to working in the block chain space, co-authoring a whitepaper titled Smart Contracts and Distributed Ledger- A Legal Perspective.

In this paper ISDA, and their partners Linklaters, acknowledge the need for third party oracles. Additionally in this white paper, ISDA and Linklaters, differentiate Smart Contracts and Legal Smart Contracts as well as two different models, the external and internal model. Coincidentally Chainlink again shows conformity with the ISDA whitepaper as they released a blog post on November 12th 2019 titled Embedding Smart Contracts Into Our Legal Fabric, where they go into the differences of Smart Contracts and Legal Smart Contracts as well as the Internal and External models.

It seems that Chainlink is trying to comply with the standards ISDA is setting forth, but just how close are they to working together? It turns out there are quite a few connections which provide evidence they are working together. Linklaters, their partner on the whitepaper, are a member of the Accord project, of which Chainlink is also a member. Accord is actually one of the first partners listed on the Chainlink team's official partner list, and was also mentioned in the blog post above dealing with Smart Contracts and Legal Smart Contracts. We can see Linklaters is still working with ISDA to bring Smart Contracts to the Derivatives market as they spoke earlier this month at an ISDA virtual conference titled "ISDA Clause Library: Implementation and Negotiation."

Linklaters is not the only law company associated with Chainlink that has ties to ISDA though. In that same partners list, right under the Accord project, is OpenLaw. OpenLaw is a blockchain-based protocol for the creation and execution of legal agreements. OpenLaw also has been working on building block chain based derivatives for quite some time. In 2018 they built a mock call option for gold based on the price of ETH. At the time they were not publicly working with Chainlink, however even at this early stage they still understood the significance of Oracles, saying this…

"We've seen other attempts at executing options on a blockchain, but they fall short. The blockchain-based demonstrations move around assets, without using secure, real time oracles and are often untethered from a real world agreement necessary to manage and account for unforeseen risks or misunderstandings."
Just like Linklaters, OpenLaw has also been speaking at ISDA conferences about Smart Contract based derivatives and from their tweets it would appear Chainlink is a vital part of their approach.

With Chainlink already powering DeFi based derivatives platform Synthetix, as well as what seems to be a close working relationship with Linklaters, OpenLaw and ISDA, perhaps the first true form of adoption is closer than it appears.

## How IPFS fits into the Subsocial stack

***What is IPFS and what does it do?*** 

The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is a protocol and peer-to-peer network for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. IPFS uses content-addressing to uniquely identify each file in a global namespace connecting all computing devices.

IPFS allows users to host and receive content in a manner similar to BitTorrent. As opposed to a centrally located server, IPFS is built around a decentralized system of user-operators who hold a portion of the overall data, creating a resilient system of file storage and sharing. Any user in the network can serve a file by its content address, and other peers in the network can find and request that content from any node who has it using a distributed hash table (DHT).

***What is stored on the blockchain and what is stored in IPFS?***

Subsocial is building on Polkadot using a Substrate blockchain framework (think of it as a global permissionless logic). On Subsocial relationships will be stored on the blockchain, but the content (text, images, video) will be stored in IPFS. IDs of content are also stored on the blockchain along with the accounts, that created the content.

***Who is responsible for maintaining the IPFS data ?***

Currently Subsocial hosts their own IPFS node for their users. However as this can change in the future, it is up to content owners to worry about replication of their data if they don't want their data to be lost. Anyone can fully or selectively replicate Subsocial's node. 
Subsocial is planning to add integrations with decentralized storage platforms like Filecoin/Crust/Arweave in the future. No such integrations have been started yet as running their own IPFS node is a good enough solution for now.

***Are there any costs incurred by node operators or users associated with IPFS? ***

No. Subsocial hosts their own IPFS Node.
