**AI gets a lot of hype, but let's see its prediction capabilities when its paired with Zeta.**

If you’re in the crypto space then you’re no stranger to interesting tech. MEV bots make bank and the launch of chatGPT set off a whole new wave of AI-tagged shitcoins. So in the interests of some fun, we thought we’d jump into AI-based trading in the laziest way possible. How do we do this? By getting GROK to give us some tips, perp trading on Zeta Markets (our platform of choice) with their advice and then writing about it. It goes without saying that this is most certainly not cutting-edge technology and you should definitely not try this at home.

### **The Rules**

There’s no reinventing the wheel with this one which is great because it makes the rules nice and simple. As in, there really aren’t any rules. We do however need to start with a few things. 

So, we start with $100\. With Zeta giving up to 20x leverage, this gives us plenty of trading potential to play with. It’ll also help us earn points which we can use to get ZEX tokens at the end of the epoch.

Trades will focus on SOL only, no meme coins.

We take the tips as presented and trade on them, with no human input, going either short or long depending on the instructions. In the interests of not losing everything early, we won’t go too heavy on leverage as that gives us a little breathing room when dealing with price movements. 

So, all in all pretty straightforward right? We’ll see. 

### **Just Trader Things**

It should go without saying, that this is just a bit of fun and should give something interesting to write about. But for perp trading on SOL, Zeta is no joke. 

Aiming to provide all the benefits of a centralised exchange while remaining decentralised, the Zeta team is building at rapid speeds capitalising on momentum gained during this year's Breakpoint conference. 

Underpinning this development is Zeta X, which aims to provide even more reason to get your perp on, by dealing with several issues to make for a more friendly user experience.

This means that after Zeta X has been launched, users can expect an improvement in transaction speeds, with fewer dropped transactions as well as gas-free trading. 

There’s also an increased focus on security, with ZKproofs used on-platform as well as a renewed focus on self custody for user funds.

Zeta Markets: Trading With Grok

In the latest instalment of “Things you shouldn’t try at home” we give Grok the power of the trade on Zeta Markets and figure out just how bad of an idea this was.

In this previous article, we looked at trading using inputs from X’s Grok AI. It’s a pretty non-technical project that's simply a bit of fun more than anything else.

Today, we’ll be looking at the results at the end of Day 1\. How did it go? Surprisingly, far better than anticipated. As in, we actually got some green candles. Let’s go check it out.

### The Prediction

The original prediction made by the Grok AI thought that Solana would go long.

This was an interesting proposition because, at the time, the market was looking a little flat although it was holding a slight upward swing. Asking for clarification on the matter returned little more than word soup.

Still, an experiment is an experiment, and so we shifted to Zeta Markets where an order was lodged for 1.5 SOL going long. 

### The Market

The early sentiment wasn’t great. Within a few minutes of placing the order a distinct downward swing was noticed. This would place the order immediately into the red although, for the most part, the swing was pretty minor.

This is crypto though and while anything is possible, volatility is a near certainty. So, it didn’t take long for the candles to change and some movement to start shifting toward the green. 

With the [**Solana Radar hackathon**](https://earn.superteam.fun/hackathon/radar/) currently still in play, general market sentiment was reasonably strong. This translated to a gradual uptick in price, although these would fail to reach the highs of the previous week. 

### The Closeout

By the time the closeout point had come around, the price had maintained a slow but steady uptick meaning that the end of the first day would bring us a few dollars up.

This wasn’t a bad result, all things considered. Was it a fluke? Beginners luck? We’ll just have to wait until the next call comes in. 

When the trade was closed, there was a nice little Z score bonus from Zeta. The Z score helps determine your leaderboard position which in turn will determine the allocation of ZEX tokens that you’ll receive after each epoch of trading.

While the leaderboard competition is pretty intense at the top, there’s still plenty of wriggle room in the middle and back end of the board. This means that even a modest Z score is enough to push you into a position where you can obtain a small allocation as a reward for your trading.

There are still plenty of rewards on Zeta that are allocated to go to those traders that are active during each epoch, meaning you’ve got plenty of reasons to get your perp on. The ZEX token is also well-placed for strong upward movement as the platform continues to roll out new features.

### The Next Order

With Day 1 over it’s time to figure out our position for Day Two. So, it’s off to Grok for our next market prediction. And the result is…..**Long.**

The price at the time of the prediction was $145.05 meaning that it was squarely in the middle of variations we’ve seen previously in the past few months. While this would usually mean it could go either way, the prediction to go long again was justified by market sentiment on social media and market data. 

At this point, it’s fair to say that getting a chatbot to make market decisions for you literally pushes the human (read, emotional) side of the trade out of the equation entirely. Is this a good thing? Time will tell.

If you’ve been following for any length of time you probably don’t need to be reminded of the fact that we tend to think privacy is a big deal and something worth protecting. However, as we well know, to do this successfully we’ll often need plenty of tools and software to help bring it all together. And while there are plenty of free tools to help you along the way, often companies use you as leverage, drawing you in with the freebie and hoping you’ll be enticed to open your wallet to spend some money on their latest product.

While some things are worth paying for, sometimes an all-in-one solution is one of the best ways to go for efficiency and productivity purposes. Today, we’ll be taking a look at one of those all-in-one packages and seeing what we get for our money as well as how it might improve our security. In fact, this company is one of our favourites, so today, we’re happy to do some shilling to help you get your security upgrade started. Let’s go!

# **Proton Who???**

Coming from a humble beginning in Europe, Proton has grown to be one of the world's renowned privacy-focused companies and is a trusted name to many of us who spend a bunch of time in the cyber & information security domains.

Started in 2014 by a bunch of CERN members, Proton came from a vision that placed a value on both data and privacy. With its founding principles placing a value on privacy, open-source software and emphasizing support to its customers, Proton aimed to recapture the privacy-focused crowd by providing useful and usable tools at a reasonable price.

Interestingly enough, in the early days, the focus on these issues nearly cost Proton their business entirely. After establishing their core business, PayPal placed a hold on an account that contained a large amount of the Proton financial safety net. While the funds would eventually be unfrozen, this decision would affect Proton more than many would realise, influencing decisions made over the long term.

It was so influential that eventually, Proton would release its own self-custody cryptocurrency wallet and even today, Proton still holds part of its reserves as cryptocurrency, isolating some of its finances from traditional payment providers.

# **The Tools**

Starting with “just” a VPN, the Proton suite would eventually expand to include a large array of privacy-focused tools for nearly everything you could possibly need. This includes an encrypted Proton drive, encrypted email, a password manager that's capable of both generating aliases and passwords, VPN servers across the globe and the most recent release provided its customers with a secure Bitcoin wallet, enabling people to self-custody their own BTC and transact with minimal fuss.

While there are plenty of other VPN providers worth supporting, there aren’t too many that are willing to provide the array of tools that are available through the Proton suite. Even the free accounts provide a significant security upgrade to those willing to make the change.

Proton has made it ridiculously easy to get started as well. So easy in fact, that Android users won’t even need to sign up for an account to use it, as the ProtonVPN app allows Android users to access VPN servers as guests.

There are also apps and software packages provided for pretty much any platform you care to think of. Mac, Windows, Linux or Android, Proton has the tools you need to get started quickly and easily.

If you’re going all in and are planning on using all of the available packages, you’ll find browser extensions that allow you to get started quickly and easily. VPN servers are available worldwide meaning you can have your privacy without sacrificing the speed of your connection.

One of the great things about Proton is that while they take care of their paid customers, free account holders aren’t forgotten either. The free VPN will give you a choice of servers in up to 4 different countries, while Proton Mail will give you encrypted email (under certain conditions) at no cost.

It’s also worth mentioning that while Proton will comply with requests from global law enforcement agencies, their no-logs policy will often mean that minimal information is usually obtained. While we wouldn’t be encouraging people to break the law, a no-logs policy can be a good indication of the attitude a company might have towards their user’s privacy.

# **Why Upgrade?**

Even if you have little interest in protecting privacy a privacy reboot is still worth considering for a number of reasons. Firstly, many people will find a VPN advantageous, despite the penalty that’s often incurred with connection speeds.

However, one of the best reasons to upgrade isn’t the VPN or email package at all. It’s the free access to Proton Pass that most will find useful.

In a world full of breach data and poor security, Pass makes it quick and easy to stay on top of your password management. Sporting a fully featured password generator, email alias tool and live monitoring, Pass makes protecting your privacy during signups ridiculously easy and this feature alone makes a Proton account worth signing up for.

While none of these features are revolutionary in a single app, when paired with the rest of the Proton services, it provides a significant upgrade to the average internet user's security. One that integrates easily and is so user-friendly that you don’t have to be an infosec pro to configure and use it.

# **Final Words**

It’s fair to say that even five years ago, carrying out a privacy upgrade was a laborious task that would often even make experienced folk shudder. However, it’s also fair to say that with regard to this, we’ve come a long way in a short period of time. Now, it doesn’t have to be hard and it certainly shouldn’t be intimidating.

The reason this has changed is that providers like Proton have taken the time to make suites of tools that enable everyone to dig as deep as they need. Use one or use them all, the choice is entirely yours.

Proton: Privacy On The Go, Everywhere

After Day 1 of trading things didn’t look too bad. Our original price started at 145, so to be fair, Day 2 could have easily gone either way. But within a short period of the trade being lodged, the candles showed some pretty positive green movement which made it start to look like Grok was on the way to another correct prediction. 

### **The Prediction**

Despite being in the green at the start of the experiment, Grok stuck with the initial prediction and continued to go long.

The market saw some slight gains which continued the positive trend. While there won't be an early retirement going off the numbers we’re seeing, things could have just as easily swung into the red. Therefore, any gains are good gains, so we’ll take them without complaint. 

Grok’s Day 2 Prediction: **Long**

### **The Market**

The market changed little from the previous day's experiment, with gains of around 7% which translates to a few dollars on top of our original investment. 

Interestingly enough, looking at the graphs show some good input for the short market in the weeks prior to our terrible experiment starting. We also see a pretty distinct spike upward in the previous week accounting for a total shift of around $40.00

If Grok is able to correctly calculate the position and timing of one of these price swings then we stand to see far more gains overnight than we would be dealing with a price swing of just a few dollars.

However the flip side is also true, as should Grok end up on the wrong side of one of these fluctuations, it won’t take much to wipe out the progress of the last few days.

As always, [**Zeta Markets**](https://dex.zeta.markets/?r=5GmbY4) has been reliable and easy to use. There was no Z score bonus this round, but there were no dropped transactions and overall the Z score challenge is progressing well. 

### **The Result**

Surprisingly, we finished the day in the green again by a small amount. Which is always a pleasant surprise when you’re perp trading. The market continued with its small, but steady uptick and while it didn’t perform as well as it did yesterday it’s still a positive result.

This closes out another trade event on Zeta Markets. Given all the activity of the past few days, we’ve been able to push into the top 500 and hope to gain a few more positions in the coming days before we close the series out.

The third time is also a charm apparently, as Grok seems to see going long again as a good option. With no significant price swings in the last 24 hours, gains similar in number to what we saw yesterday would probably keep us in the ballpark. 

Can Grok get it right for the third day in a row? Or is it just hoping that things hold out and the market doesn’t shift? At this point, it doesn’t matter as another trade for 1.5 SOL has just been lodged so the commitment has been made!

In the last article, we continued the pattern of making small but steady gains. We also realised that if Solana held its form price-wise, then there’d be a far greater shift than previously seen. This would allow us to make some good profits by closing out at the peak and then potentially shorting it again on the way down if Grok called it that way. 

And for this article, it happened just in time to maintain Grok's form. Let's see how it all played out!

Grok’s Day 3 Position: **Long**

### Market Conditions

Market conditions at the start of the trade were basically the same as we’d seen in previous days. This meant that while we’d seen a steady upswing in price, they weren’t particularly dramatic fluctuations so our gains, while in the green weren’t particularly noteworthy.

The market eventually started to shift toward the afternoon before we eventually saw a large spike that would take SOL strongly above the $150 mark. This would settle around the 155 mark after fluctuations. 

Our trade would end up closing out at 154 meaning we pocketed some nice double-digit gains on closeout, including a Z score multiplier of 1.25 from Zeta. This would give a comfortable boost to our overall Z score as we get close to the end of Epoch 3.

The next interesting decision for Grok to make is here and now though. Will the market change meaning that we are looking at a short? Or is Grok going to stay bullish by expecting to see SOL hold stable above the $150 mark. 

### Day 4 Prediction

Grok’s Day 4 Prediction: **Long (Again)**

Despite the market showing some clear signs in the past 24 hours, a swift retraction isn’t out of the question here. Because of this, some people might find that shorting the dip is a good option. 

Grok is no shy trader though and we can see this in the justification that we were given for going long again. Essentially, the 150–155 mark indicates a breakthrough point where pushing beyond that shows a significant chance of sustained growth. 

There’s even mention of a push above $200 so with that said, it’s worth considering where that sits regarding some of Solana’s all-time high numbers.

SOL peaked at an ATH of $259.96 in 2021 before significant changes in the market conditions would eventually tank the price. Should we see momentum beyond the $200 mark, we may well be on track for a new ATH to be reached.

Of course, Grok is artificial intelligence. So it’s just as plausible that this is all talk, but as always, the market conditions will be the judge of that. 

There are just two articles left before the series ends and Grok is one step closer to a perfect series of calls. At this rate, it probably trades better than half of us do.

When this series first started there was very little in the way of expectations other than the expectation of losing some or all, of the initial stake. With just one article in the series remaining, Grok has been surprisingly bullish and accurate with the call. Today's article has been no different. 

Groks Day 4 Prediction: **Long**

In some of the feedback from earlier articles in the series, one user commented that at the moment SOL seems to be going through a somewhat cyclical variation that shifts between a particular price range. This is a pretty astute observation that lines up with what we’ve seen when generating these articles.

Today is even more interesting because even though Solana would take a small step back due to a slight market adjustment, due to the timing of our trades and a reasonably quick bounceback we’d still close the trade out slightly ahead.

### Market Conditions

The market would end up showing greater fluctuations than we had seen in previous days, but despite this, the price would still stay well above the breakout mark of $150 that we saw yesterday.

While the trade was open we’d still see some pretty interesting timing regarding when the market would move. Even though the price would stay consistent above the $150 mark there was plenty of movement between there and around $156\. 

Timing was the name of the game here as the idea was to close out the trade with a reasonable percentage in the green without suffering a shift into the red. The timing was of the essence but as always we’d make it there in the end and our trade would eventually close out at just above 154.50

Unfortunately, like yesterday we didn’t qualify for a Zeta Z-Score multiplier but there’s still time left for us to land one or two more before the end of the epoch.

As Grok has gone long at each point in the series it’s easy to start to wonder if there would ever be a short call. In the interest of suspense though, we’ve been given one interesting play to work with on the final day of trade. 

For the first time in the series, we’d see Grok elect to go short. Market conditions, social media sentiment and general volatility in the past 24 hours left Grok feeling far more cautious than in recent days. 

You only have to wait until tomorrow to find out if we do in fact have a perfect series of calls.

As things wrap up for Epoch 3 on Zeta Markets, we’re also winding down the Trading with Grok series. This experiment, which was little more than a joke actually produced some great results, including quite a bit of green. One of the best parts of the experiment wasn’t the trading though. It was looking deeper into price expectations and market fluctuations that Solana tends to move through during a 24–48 hour period. 

Despite crypto having infamous volatility the reality is that there's plenty of movement for savvy traders to work between should they be willing to analyse and be in tune with some of the market movements. 

Grok’s Final Prediction: **Short**

### Market Conditions

Market conditions would remain strong but varied overnight with SOL maintaining its price point above $150 with little in the way of dips. Despite this, like yesterday our trade timing still allowed a slight move into the green. This means that Grok’s strike rate for the series remains unblemished, with a perfect 100%.

If we’d had a week of longs we might be telling a different story as that could have been a sheer coincidence. However, having the call turn into a short on the final day means that market and community sentiment was most probably a large factor in accurately predicting which way the price was most likely to move.

While this was simply a fun experiment, there’s probably plenty to learn about market conditions and variations by running a similar experiment with some tighter rules regarding funding and liquidation. 

Even this experiment ended up being quite educational as while it was Grok making the calls, we still had plenty of information to gain about the current state of the market. 

So all in all, it was a pretty fun project and rather than ending in the red like the expectation was, we ended up with a nice little bonus at the end of the trading week. Which begs the question of course of “what’s next”?

### The Last Word: Zeta Markets

Zeta Markets: Trading With Grok (Final Update)

As modern technology developed, we’ve seen the miniaturisation of electronics and looked at how the evolution of technology would go on to impact our lives and help shape the modern world. And while “glamorous” technology like iPhones, computers and aviation regularly have their time in the spotlight, the reality is that there’s plenty of technology that also influences our lives.

These workhorse pieces of technology work away in the background, rarely seen but always felt. In a previous What the Tech?!, we explored the impact that refrigeration would have on our world. In today’s article, we’ll be exploring its distant relative, air-conditioning. Let’s check it out!

# **The Beginnings**

It’s fair to say that while modern medicine and agricultural techniques definitely contributed to an extended life expectancy in the modern world, environmental issues would play a part in this as well. Houses would be rudimentary and while primitive, yet effective passive cooling techniques would exist, the reality was that extremes of both heat and cold played a significant role in reducing life expectancies as well.

With this understanding, it’s reasonable to expect that our ancestors would place a significant value on being able to effectively manage temperature when needed.

Early systems would be primitive, focusing on evaporative techniques to help shift the hot air away and replace it with cooler air. Before the development of gas-based systems, Ice was the market leader and played a significant role right through the early 1900s when experiments around commercial systems were first performed.

The concept of air-conditioning was discovered well before this though. It would be in 1820 when Michael Faraday discovered that compressing and liquefying ammonia would provide an efficient cooling effect, laying the grounds for the first modern system. However, due to technology levels at the time, this discovery wasn't able to be fully capitalised on at that point.

Faraday, who would go on to make significant scientific discoveries in his lifetime, had one interesting quirk that most people would find surprising. Rather than relying on formal education to assist in making these discoveries, Faraday was a “self-made man”, meaning he’d received little in the way of formal education on scientific matters. Because of this, despite his contributions to air-conditioning technology, he would receive far more attention for his other contributions as well.

# **Commercial Technology**

It was 1901 when American Willis Carrier brought the first commercial design to market, offering much in the way of benefits to a market that had little in the way of options. You might recognise Carrier as a brand that still exists in the modern world as well, employing over 53,000 people and sporting a commercial valuation of over 18 billion dollars.

In 1902, Carrier would complete the first commercial installation, with Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographing & Publishing Company in New York being the recipient of the new technology. Despite this, the term “air-conditioning” hadn’t entered the public dialogue yet.

To find it, we’d have to go all the way to North Carolina in 1906\. Mill owner Stuart Cramer, who was looking for a way to put moisture into the air at his textile mill, would first coin the phrase and confident in its success, lodged a patent design for the phrase the same year. The rest, as we say, was history.

Due to changes in technology during that time frame, evolutions to modern systems would go through many changes, becoming more efficient in both power and cooling specifications. They would also become more modular and portable, showing up in planes and automobiles around the same time. This would prove to be another revolution in travel, in a world that had barely adjusted to having aviation capabilities.

# **The Tech Boom**

While gas-based systems would receive most of the research and development love, the status on the ground was that evaporative cooling strategies received significant attention as well. Offering a more efficient way to cool larger spaces while leveraging the natural environmental effects of an area, evaporative systems would go on to play a significant role in commercial installations and situations where power concerns were relevant.

With it’s most basic form being a pump that allows water to flow through the system it provided a cheap (ish) and easy-to-repair system in comparison to its equivalent refrigerated systems. And let’s talk about that gas in a bit more detail.

You might have heard members of the older generation state that “things don’t work like they used to” and it might surprise you to learn that in relation to airconditioning, this was actually often the case. Earlier refrigerant gasses, while being extremely efficient were also harmful to the environment, and like refrigerators, disposing of these used appliances would end up becoming quite an environmental issue.

So, a lot of modern research would end up being use to not only find refrigerants that were less harmful. But also to develop strategies where end-of-life products were able to be either recycled or disposed of in ways that had a reduced environmental impact.

Much of this would focus on fixed installations, but mobile systems would go through similar iterations. Air-Conditioning units of the 90’s and early 2000’s would use R134A refrigerant for just this purpose.

# **Final Words**

If you live in a mild or temperate climate, it might be easy to understate the impact that air conditioning systems would have on the modern world. And if you’re lucky enough to have a fully climate-controlled environment, it’s easy to forget how much of an impact an inability to properly cool the body can have.

Some parts of the world like India and Australia suffer greatly from extreme temperatures in summer and as you’d expect this typically affects the young and elderly in disproportionate numbers. This has a significant effect on modern life expectancy as in many situations, being too hot is just as damaging as being too cold.

In places such as these, A/C has been a godsend, allowing an increase in daytime productivity while providing a comfortable environment for those who might not be able to correctly regulate their temperature on their own.

We’ve also seen significant commercial productivity increases, as proper climate control strategies mean that deserts and remote areas are now no longer uninhabited wastelands. Rather than a horse, or a vehicle that lacks air conditioning, people can now traverse some of the most extreme terrain in the world, in the peak of summer while barely breaking a sweat.

With the effects of climate change still being fully understood, it’s still fair to say that cost and power efficient air-conditioning, still has a significant role to play in our future world.

You won’t have to spend long in the crypto space before you find your first scam. And it’s fair to say that in the world of crypto, scams come in many different shapes, sizes and types.

Because of this, we see some pretty bold scams unfold. Typically though, people will tend to wrap their scam in a veil of legitimacy, hoping to appear to potential marks as a worthwhile project. 

Sometimes though, we see none of this. Sometimes, the scam is right there in front of your face waiting for you to see it. And sometimes, people simply don't care.

In today’s article, we’ll be taking a quick look at World Liberty Financial. If the name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve recently seen at least one or more members of the Trump family shilling it in recent weeks.

Promising its holders a “DeFi Revolution” WLFI promises to be a golden ticket to a new era of financial services. So, is this credible? Or, is it just a shiny new rug? Let’s go check it out and see!

### A De-Fi Revolution

Like politics, crypto is often full of hype, buzzwords and overall world salad. Revolutionary and visionary get thrown around a lot when you’re dealing with technology and often, people use these buzzwords to hide the fact that their roadmap might be a tad thin. 

Some basic social media OSINT shows that it’s the president's youngest son who appears to be the driving force behind the latest venture. Touted as a crypto “whizz kid” WLFI professes to be the latest trend in de-fi, that hopes to change the way we think about money. 

However, one of the problems we also see with the average crypto scam is that once you start digging around, it becomes pretty easy to identify something with a lack of substance. Maybe the roadmap is questionable, or the dev team is unreliable. Or, maybe the project has some unavoidable flaws that change the dynamic for the end users. 

Identifying these can be pretty simple when you know what you’re looking for and ultimately, being able to do this correctly will save you from a lot of stress when trying to analyse a project. 

So, with all that said the 100 billion token question now reveals itself. Namely, is WLFI just another sketchy grift or does it have some form of true utility or value? 

Taking a look at this project’s terms and conditions is going to be the best way of finding this out. 

### The Fine Print

Putting politics to the side for a moment, for many people the words “Trump, Investment and Money” draw instant suspicion. With a pretty large list of past failed and unsupported projects, many people are rightly wary of any new offering that promises a significant return on investment. 

If you’re in that crowd, keep reading because it's unlikely you’re going to be disappointed. In fact, some of the fine print regarding the project is outright ridiculous and we’ve screen captured a few of the best parts.

Purchased tokens are non-transferrable and locked indefinitely. Meaning that while plenty of meme coins have functionality WLFI has….nothing.

There are so many terrible parts to this project that it’s really hard to pick just one, but there’s still at least one solid contender that deserves a mention. 

One of the key selling points of crypto is its decentralised nature. So, with WLFI you’d expect that processing a transaction would be quick and easy. Trade crypto, receive shitcoin. 

No. You’ll need to KYC for this project. Which is great. Now, not only have you invested in a shitcoin but when your data is inevitably onsold for profit, the whole world will know about it as well. 

In all seriousness though, the concept of KYC definitely deserves a mention here though as privacy is a concern. 

While your data may not be sold outright, it’s reasonable to assume that in signing up, you’ve opened yourself up to a barrage of political advertising and messaging. If there was ever a time to use a burner, it is now. Or you could just, you know, not get involved at all.

For the still-learning hacker, acquiring radiofrequency skills and experience can be challenging and in some circumstances, rather expensive. Not only do you have to be comfortable using and interpreting different parts of the radio spectrum and different transmission modes, but you’ll also need to be comfortable with antennas, feed lines and ensuring that your computer is able to talk to your radio to transmit and receive signals of interest.

While you’ll typically be able to find amateur radio clubs to help assist you with much of this, the reality is that amateur radio can only teach you so much about this topic before you’ll be moved along looking elsewhere for more information about your topic of interest.

But what if we didn’t have to travel that road? What if a community enabled you to learn about topics like these, in a chill environment that attracted like-minded people who are also interested in learning and sharing information? A community like that would have to be a great place to learn from right?

Then read on because today, we’ll introduce you to one of those communities. Focusing on space, satellites, and space communications, it’s a great place to acquire skills that can help you on your radio hacking pathway. Let’s get started!

# **Open Source….In Space?!**

Part of the Libre Space Foundation, the SATNOGS project aims to coordinate a global group of transmitting and receiving stations to provide open-source data to assist in tracking satellites, space debris and other items of interest. This is just one of such projects coordinated by the foundation,

SATNOGS aims to simplify some of the learning issues faced by projects like this by providing tutorials, resources and a wiki full of information that should help the average beginner get started.

While tackling a ground receive station such as this could still easily be described as a complicated project, this repository of knowledge aims to crowdsource the issue, relying on a skilled and passionate community to help assist with individual issues and provide designs that users can use to keep their receive stations cheap to construct and efficient to use.

From an operator's perspective, consistent reception of signals from space provides much in the way of challenges as typically we’ll need to overcome issues with weak signal strength, marginal antennas and other issues not normally seen with terrestrial signals.

# **What Is It Anyway?**

A simple Linux-based project, Satnogs is a great candidate for running on a Raspberry Pi board and works reasonably well providing you accept a few caveats. Firstly, while you can use the RTL-SDR it’ll come with all the issues you’d expect from a cheap, entry-level receiver. This means that should you be in a city or somewhere that's deemed “noisy” by RF standards, this may end up influencing your station's quality. Typically with radio equipment, you’ll get what you pay for. But if an RTL-SDR is all you have then that will work to start with.

The second thing to consider is that as we mentioned earlier, space communications are usually considered weak signal work. Because of this, antenna and feedline choice is extremely important in getting the best out of the equipment you have. We’ll be looking at simple antenna designs to build along the way to help mitigate this but it may take some patience to find the best setup for your specific location.

So to sum it up, we’ll be covering quite a few fundamental skills to help progress your journey. This means you’ll need to acquire some equipment if you want to follow along. So to participate you’ll need:

1. A Raspberry Pi 3 or Better
2. SD Card and Pi Peripherals
3. An RTL-SDR, HackRF or other radio receiver
4. Feedline & Antenna for your receiver.

You’ll also need some basic Linux skills, and a bit of patience as you may have to troubleshoot your system along the way. At the end of it though, you’ll have a project that’ll be a great discussion starter for people that see it.

While we won’t be starting the compilation today, there are a few things you’ll be able to do to get organized in advance so you’re ready to go. Firstly, you’ll need a copy of the SATNOGS image to run on your Raspberry Pi. Downloading and flashing this in advance is probably worth considering.

This image is slightly different to what you’ll typically see, as it will come in a compressed file with some other things. So, to flash your SD card you’ll need to uncompress it to unpack the image for flashing.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to ensure the checksum is correct to verify the image's integrity. You can do this in the terminal by going to the directory of the download and running

sha256sum -c sha256sums
```

Once you’ve completed this, the image is ready to flash onto an SD card. In the next article, we’ll look at configuring and securing the base system and configuring your RTL-SDR to work correctly so you can start detecting your first signals.

Radio Hackers: The SATNOGS Network

**Identify associated accounts and become an A-grade sleuth using Maltego Transforms.**

When you’re starting out with open source intelligence (OSINT) you won’t have to be learning for long to realise that it’s all about the data. Huge amounts of data from a wide array of sources need to be scraped, processed and analysed to get the complete picture of what’s going on.

In today’s world though, we’re lucky enough to have a broad range of tools to help us properly leverage this data to turn it into actionable, real-world intelligence. Like most things in life though, not all things are equal and because of this, some OSINT tools are far more useful than others.

Most experienced analysts would agree that Maltego is one of these tools. A graphical-based tool that’s designed to uncover connections and work with a large number of plugins, it’s the star of today's article.

# **What is Maltego**

You can get a good idea of the utility value of an OSINT tool by exploring who uses it and Maltego has been used the world over by cyber and information security specialists, investigative journalists and government intelligence agencies. Used to analyse and interpret complex data from multiple sources, it’s a great tool for uncovering connections and looking further into online activities.

While it does have paid features, the community edition (Maltego CE) is still well worth learning and its usage of visual graphic-based tools makes it far easier for investigators to analyse and uncover links between entities.

Extremely powerful in standard configuration, Maltego uses “transforms” to help customize and narrow its search criteria, helping to expand its utility and allowing users to select and search data from sources relevant to their investigation. If you’re not able to find one that suits your needs, all is not lost as you can write and include your own. Python is a great choice for this.

# **Maltego Academy**

With its ability to add transforms as well as plenty of features that come baked in, Maltego can be tough for beginners to get started with. However, Maltego has your back, with their Maltego Academy available to those who want to up their search game.

Providing a large array of resources in both live and on-demand capacities, the academy has everything you need to get started as well as plenty of tools for those who are seeking more advanced techniques. To get started, you’ll simply need to register for a Maltego ID so you can log in and access the training materials.

If you’re after some more specialized training, the academy also provides learning paths, to help you develop a more focused investigative skillset. These pathways won’t just help you learn how to use Maltego, they’ll also help you get used to using best-practice investigative techniques to help you preserve the data you uncover.

# **Getting Started**

If you’re running Kali Linux as your educational OS, depending on the version you should find Maltego pre-installed and ready to rock. If you’re using a different OS though, you can[ **visit the Maltego website**](https://www.maltego.com/downloads/)to download the version that’s appropriate for your OS.

It’s worth ensuring that you’re running the most up-to-date version if you’re relying on a pre-configured system though, as the software is regularly updated with new features and plugins. So much so that if it’s been a while since you’ve used it, while the interface is mostly the same, there is plenty more in the way of new tools and expansions.

Once you’re installed and ready to rock, it’s then worth taking a look at some of the custom transforms that you want to add to your workflow. You’ll find that in some instances, they’ll need to be configured properly to work as well so it’s worth doing now ahead of time. When this is complete, your new investigative toolkit is ready to go!

# **Next Steps**

One of the reasons that some hobbyist analysts can find Maltego to be slightly intimidating is due to the sheer volume of data that it’s able to use and analyse. Despite this though, once you’re properly up and running the reality is that the software is extremely user-friendly once you’ve taken the time to understand it.

Maltego was originally designed to explore social connections but with the integration of a modern tech stack, it’s now more usable than ever before when searching for actionable intelligence. Breach data, social media intelligence and open source information from sources worldwide have all been added into the mix, giving the modern cyber investigator a veritable arsenal of tools at their disposal.

Social Links: Getting Started with Maltego

**Your how-to guide on identifying compatible connectors for your home lab.**

When you’re getting started with transmitting and receiving stations, you’ll need an antenna and suitable feedline to get the best out of your system. And while you wouldn’t be the first person to operate with a coax centre plugged into an antenna jack, to properly optimise your system you’ll need to equip yourself with some proper RF connectors as well.

But like many things radio, analysing these connectors can be tricky for a newcomer. With a large array of choices, it’s easy to get lost in a vast array of types and uses. Like many things engineering though, the specs are our friend and in those specs, we’ll find out the best use case for each specific connector that we might see. But first! Here are a few important points to get you started.

# **Male & Female**

A connector wouldn’t be a connector without its associated plug and as such, it’s important to realise that each connector will have both male and female components that will be used to create a neat system for safely transferring RF with minimal feedback. Typically, male connectors will provide the plug, while female connectors will provide the jack.

# **Impedance**

While coax can vary in impedance, for RF-based systems we’ll typically be using 50Ω impedance. You will find 75Ω connectors but these are more commonly used in video and television installations.

# **Solder / Crimp**

While you’re identifying the type of connector your system needs, it’s also worth considering what type of fixing method that you’ll use for your system. Some systems might find that pre-installed patch cables are the best way to get up and running with minimal effort, while others might find that their need to customize their system requires custom-made patch cables with fitted connectors.

Normally, you’ll find that connectors either come as solder-on or crimp-on systems. While both have their pros and cons, if you go with crimp-on connectors you’ll find that you’ll need a set of coaxial crimpers to ensure the connectors can be fitted without damaging your feedline. You should be able to find these at any reputable electronics store, or in the usual haunts online.

# **Let’s Connect: Fitting Types**

# **PL259**

If you’ve ever dabbled in the world of CB Radio, you won’t be any stranger to this connector. Known as the UHF or PL259 connector, it’s a cheap, easy-to-use connector that works best at lower frequencies. It’s a poor choice for microwave or GHZ systems but is still universally used in other systems the world over. Often mistaken for an N-type connector, you can tell the difference between the two by looking at the differences in the centre component.

# **N Type**

An older connector that was originally used in military installations, the N connector is a rugged, waterproof connector that works well across large parts of the spectrum. With an isolated centre section and a screw-on jack, the N-type is great for outdoor usage and works well with heavier-duty coax installations like Heliax or RG213.

While the original N connectors were only good up to 1GHZ, modern refinement means that today, it will operate well into the GHZ range depending on the quality of the connector itself. N types also work great in high-powered installations.

# **The BNC**

Almost as common as the venerable PL259, the BNC provides a fast and easy-to-use connector with acceptable performance across large parts of the spectrum. Differing from its screw-on cousins, the BNC uses a twist lock mechanism that is as simple as it is reliable. Due to its easy-to-install nature, the BNC is often found in commercial or rack-mounted installations, where an extension tool is all that is needed to get started. BNC connectors perform well up to around 2GHZ and are commonly used in video/television installations as well as home systems. They are easily recognised by their twist-lock design and insulated centre core.

# **The SMA**

Probably the most common of connectors for general use and reliability, the SMA comes with great performance in the microwave ranges, with typical connectors working well up to 18GHZ, while more specialised systems work efficiently up to 40GHZ! This performance outclasses the older connectors and as such, you’ll find SMA connectors used in a vast array of commercial and high-powered systems.

It’s also commonly used in telephone and Wi-Fi systems although there are a few caveats to using it effectively. While it uses a screw-on design, it’s much smaller than even the BNC, making it easily recognisable.

However, you should be careful to ensure that you have obtained the correct polarity plug for your system.

# **RP SMA Connector**

Visually similar to a normal SMA connector, the RP-SMA has one distinct difference that catches newcomers easily. The design of its centre pin varies significantly from the original SMA connector.

Typically found in Wi-Fi and other mass-produced systems, these differences mean that we’re essentially dealing with two different types of connectors despite the design similarities.

Despite the physical differences, the polarity remains the same meaning that in the worst cases, a simple adapter (RP-SMA to SMA) should be all you need to get things working.

# **MCX Connector**

While the MCX is rarely used by radio amateurs these days, it’s a pretty common antenna connector for many of the cheap and easy-to-use RTL-SDR receivers, usually being included with the default antenna and a cheap, low-quality feedline to suit.

While RTLs that have MCX fittings are still usable, you might find it a little tricky to find quality patch cables and connectors that are suitable for long-term installation. As such, RTL systems that use an SMA or similar are usually better suited for antenna exchanges or homebuilt systems.

# **In Closing**

While there are plenty of things that can catch you out when customising a system, one thing to be extra wary of is the difference between standard and reverse polarity connectors. The SMA, in particular, can be tricky to catch as RF connectors used by hams will typically use standard polarity, while wi-fi-based SMA systems will mostly use a Reverse Polarity (RP) system.

It’s important to point out that incorrectly using these two connectors could result in equipment damage, so if you’re planning to carry out an install, ensure you have the correct connector for your system.

From Signal to Success: Your Guide To RF Connectors

If you’re of the older generation, the days of wired internet probably don’t feel like all that long ago. Gamers might remember the days of the LAN party and corporate workers might well remember the days of logging in via telephone and a modem. And, prior to the widescale adoption of ADSL, more than a few people probably remember the epic sibling battles that would occur over using the telephone line for actual telephone calls instead of using it to download music from Napster. While all of these situations were a step toward our connected world, there was one technology that really helped unlock it and bring it to the masses. While this Australian invention would start small, today you’ll find it the world over, including on aeroplanes and even being broadcast from space. In this What the Tech?!, we’re exploring the development and mass adoption of Wi-Fi.

# **Concept & Development**

If the concept of a receiver and transmitter sharing digital data doesn’t really seem all that high-tech today, you’re actually right, because the concept is pretty old, contextually speaking. In fact, traditional radio stations would operate similarly, albeit using analogue transmissions instead of digital.

Eventually, research would shift away from using voice or continuous wave transmission to focus on developing and using digital data formats to share information. While many countries had their own research programs focusing on this issue, it was the Australian-based CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation) that played a large role in the development and widescale adoption of this tech.

Researcher Dr John O’Sullivan led a team of researchers who were responsible for producing a paper that dealt with the issue of multipath interference. Much of this research would be used in the early development of Wi-Fi protocols and due to the importance of the research the CSIRO would eventually end up earning billions of dollars as royalties.

It might surprise you to learn though that much of this research was carried out quite early, with the early 1990's being the peak research period for the project. For most Australians at the time, the internet speed was an incredibly slow 56kbps, which was achieved via a Modem and a telephone line, so it was pretty groundbreaking research all things considered. Still, it would take a considerable length of time before this technology would be available to consumers worldwide.

# **Mass Adoption**

While the modem was useful for helping bring the internet a step closer to mass adoption, the reality was that in comparison to the Western world Australia faced quite a unique problem in getting connected. The tyranny of distance and the sheer size of the country meant that putting the entire country online would be a complex and expensive operation. Technology like the new Wi-Fi protocol could help reduce the expense faced in doing this and more importantly, could help provide a far greater connection speed than would be possible by simply using copper lines the way that current methods did. It would also save money on expensive Fibre Optic cables, as Wi-Fi could be used inside a building once Fibre Optics had brought the connection close to the building.

It’s worth mentioning here that while radio-based point-to-point links did exist to help mitigate the effects of distance, connections across the continent would favour hardwiring where possible, due to reliability. While the new technology wouldn’t be used to help connect the states, what it would do was favour commercial and corporate environments where many users in one place had devices that would need online access.

This one feature alone would help turbocharger Wi-Fi adoption as it was perfect for use in hospitals, shopping centres, government buildings and even airports and aircraft. While early 3g networks weren’t anything to write home about, the later 4g and 5g connections were capable of rapid and efficient data transfers both ways.

Still, the new technology was reasonably slow to be adopted, and it wasn’t until the mid-2000s that Wi-Fi technology would start to enter the general public's awareness. Being adopted by tech fans and hobbyists first, it would eventually become more common in the mainstream, being used in the corporate world, before then being adopted in homes and offices the world over.

# **Security & Vulnerabilities**

While the new protocol would end up being pretty convenient, it wasn’t without its issues. Early Wi-Fi would suffer from the issue of both being exploitable AND having a pretty poor security configuration in its default setting.

The early Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) that was used had relatively weak encryption standards and was able to be exploited by various means. Tools like Aircrack-ng that we see in use today were originally designed to help exploit these insecure protocols for both research and malicious means, and later protocols that were released would aim to address these vulnerabilities, making it harder for bad actors to exploit them.

One issue that remained a problem for far longer than it should have been was the issue of insecure configurations. While it’s been rectified to some extent over the past few years, for too long manufacturers would apply default passwords to their devices and the end user simply wouldn’t bother to update them. This would lead to routers being exploited remotely where they would subsequently be used for everything from cryptocurrency mining through to nodes in a botnet. Eventually, the manufacturers would deal with this issue by providing a stronger default configuration that usually included a decent administrator password.

# **Future Development**

As the radio spectrum has become vital to our connected world, we see far more usage of it in everyday circumstances. Not only do mobile devices need this to run but the explosion of the Internet of Things means that the number of devices using the Industrial Scientific & Medical (ISM) bands has increased as well. And, while the protocol is still young in comparison to other forms of technology when you look at how things were just 10 years ago, some might say we are living in the future today.

This is because rapid adoption and ongoing development have led to a world where you can find a Wi-Fi connection almost anywhere. Consumers use their devices cruising on international airliners at 38,000ft, oil & gas workers access the internet many miles offshore and the evolution of technology like the Starlink cluster has meant that for the right price, you can access the internet almost anywhere on the planet. This is a remarkable feat considering the radio transmitter was quite a modern invention.

Improvements in spread spectrum transmitting along with more efficient transmitting protocols and weak signal processing methods mean that the development of Wi-Fi is anything but done. The most modern versions are capable of theoretical speeds of up to 30gpbs and feature more efficient spectrum usage, better latency and improved capacity. In English, this effectively means that your future connection will be faster while being able to serve more users concurrently.

What The Tech?! Wi-Fi

**Some interesting theories and facts were harvested from Ukrainian Telegram this week.**

In an earlier weekly Telegram, it was observed that often, modifications are made in the field as needed. This helps to ensure that equipment can stay ahead of changes in frequencies, EW countermeasures and other steps that are taken in an attempt to maintain control over the radio spectrum. This week, we saw some more developments in the battle between recon drones and interceptors, further developments in frequency agility and discussions around the issue of friendly fire.

# **AI-Powered Drone Survivability.**

Our first clip is pretty interesting, as it shows further evolutions in the battle to keep Recon drones safe in the skies. The post shows a video clip that purports to be a battle between a recon drone and an FPV interceptor. While this is no abnormal situation over the front line, the one thing that is interesting is the usage of an AI module paired with a rear-facing camera to assist with defence.

This one would also be posted to X, disclosing similar information.

When spotting an interceptor in the frame, the drone takes immediate evasive actions, making life far harder for the intercepting team. This is no minor course adjustment either, in the video the drone could be seen making rapid turning descents in an attempt to evade the FPV unit.

# **The Shahed (Шахед) At Sea**

This post focused on the Lancet and Hall drones launched by vessels in the Black Sea. Interestingly enough, the Shahed also gets a mention as rumours of it being launched in a maritime environment are now present.

While this is interesting, it is unverified at this point and shouldn’t be assumed to be factual until we receive information from corroborating sources. Still, if true, it’s an interesting development that may prove to be more relevant as Russian-built examples continue to come online in greater numbers.

# **Friendly Fire**

Historically a problem in most wars, the issue of blue-on-blue or friendly fire continues to be an issue across the front line. Primarily targeting winged UAVs as opposed to FPV or Consumer drones, this post references some of the similarities between systems and focuses on the fact that these can be a problem to deal with at altitude.

Camera technology has improved dramatically over the past few years, however, it’s fair to assume that this issue will continue to pose a problem while humans remain in the loop.

While commercial aircraft are able to use ADS-B technology to reliably ensure reporting of location and identification, on the front lines where the spectrum is heavily monitored, this simply isn’t possible. The development of technology to deal with this issue will be an interesting one to watch.

# **Frequency Developments**

In previous posts, there have been plenty of posts that focus on the ability of FPV drone systems to be “frequency agile”. Doing this helps to provide early defences to EW and jamming tactics. Typically, this has focused on what frequencies are able to be used in the field.

However, in this post, we see that antenna design is also an ongoing consideration. While directional antennas will provide a significantly better range, there are also some EW considerations around this as well. Typically, directional antennas will have far smaller “sidelobes” making their transmissions more difficult to detect. It’s not the only factor that should be considered but it’s useful nevertheless.

Designs such as these appear to be making it to the front lines, primarily in flying wing-based recon designs. This system would be ideal for a high-speed video downlink setup.

# **Wi-Fi Bridges**

The presence of Starlink systems on the Russian side of the frontline has been reported for some time now. However, this post also reports that Ubiquity links are also now seen in use.

While the post doesn’t validate a location or use case for such a system, it does acknowledge the acquisition of large numbers of these units for the Russian military.

It’s worth mentioning that Ubiquity is an American-based and owned company that is presumably unable to sell directly to Russia due to the existence of sanctions. The issue of sanction evasion is an interesting topic in its own right and this issue will be explored more in future articles.

In [**this previous article**](https://medium.com/osint-unleashed/osint-investigators-guide-to-self-care-and-resilience-16e6fbae68a6)**,** we took a walk through the life of an OSINT investigator, talking about strategies and ways to preserve your mental health while working online. Investigator life can be a pretty varied topic though. So today we’re back to talk about disinformation, OSINT and considerations when investigating online.

# **Why Do It Though?**

Sometimes, offline discussions turn to work matters and one question that’s often asked is why OSINT investigations can be an important part of assessing an event or incident and what exactly they uncover or contribute to any given discussion.

It’s a fair question all things considered, but it does spark some interesting conversation around social media and the proliferation of things like social media intelligence (SOCMINT) and analysis.

In a world filled with fake news and bad actors trying to push a narrative credible, open-source investigations contribute much to online discussion. During MH-17 for instance, social media analysis would eventually identify the missile launcher responsible as it moved through Ukraine. Then, after the missile was fired, further research would identify it travelling back into Russia, with one missile conspicuously absent from the launcher.

Unfortunately, though, it’s not always good news, and we have more than a few incidents to remind us of the importance of respecting the information we gather as well as not leaping to any conclusions right off the bat.

The best example of this would be Reddit and the Boston Bombing that occurred in the mid-2010s. Crowd-sourced data would reveal a possible target of interest quite early in the event. This person, who had nothing to do with the incident became the focus of an intense discussion that would last for some time before it was eventually revealed that the community had been too quick to tag that person of interest as someone involved with the event.

With OSINT becoming a pretty popular hobby in recent years, it’s important to remember that often, we’ll deal with sensitive information and how we deal with that plays a huge part in ethical considerations during an inquiry.

With most people valuing transparency, OSINT inquiries offer a peer-reviewed way of reviewing critical events and incidents that are often very difficult to cover up. Given that bad actors love secrecy, it’s a great way of returning this power to the people.

# **What Can We Find?**

As you’d expect, events that are typically newsworthy seem to get a lot of attention from amateur sleuths and on the flip side, bad actors too. Given that everyone likes a good mystery, this is hardly a surprising find.

One thing that is surprising though is the type of disinformation that can propagate through social media with near ease, and it’s also no surprise to find that advanced AI-powered image generation tools play a large role in allowing this to occur.

A great example of this would occur during the recent extreme weather events that would be faced by the United States. Inflammatory tweets would rapidly spread disinformation and despite their ability to be easily debunked, some people simply weren’t having it and brought into the drama regardless.

# **Basic Strategies**

The reality is that to fight disinformation you don’t exactly have to be a super sleuth all the time. In fact, just a few simple tricks can easily up your game and get you used to hunting and busting disinformation.

For example, simply knowing how to reverse image search on platforms [**like Tineye**](http://tineye.com/) will help you uncover information that might have been recycled or used on the internet previously.

Alternately, taking a close look at imagery can also help uncover disinformation. While image generation capabilities are rapidly improving many systems still struggle with rendering the small details like fingers, hands or even house or vehicle features.

So if an image doesn’t quite look right, it’s worth examining it in further detail to see what you’ll find. We should expect that in the future though, this will become harder to spot as image-generation tools improve.

It’s also worth touching briefly on the concept of reputation. While this shouldn’t be the only point of consideration, the fact is that quite often, the most prolific spreaders of disinformation are in fact, repeat offenders.

Because of this, if you’ve identified disinformation from an account before and you see the same type of thing again later on, it’s often much easier to identify it the second time.

Don’t let this be the sole gauge though, because while there are plenty of obvious fakes, there are also some extremely well-crafted sock puppets in play that can be pretty difficult to catch out.

# **Final Words**

The average human is for the most part, quite trusting and it’s this trust that disinformation and propaganda strategies aim to exploit. They aim to do it by using something that few people understand. The dreaded social media algorithm.

This helps content move through the social media ecosystem and be amplified by accounts of interest, using the algorithm to ensure that the content is regularly presented to the type of users that will engage with it.

So to effectively identify and find disinformation we need to go against the advice of most therapists and start applying a level of suspicion to the content that we consume online.

In english? This is probably one of the few situations where having a healthy element of mistrust will actually take you a long way.

While social media can and will proliferate with news regarding current events, you can rest assured, that for some time to come, disinformation strategies will be lurking close behind.

Scams and Rugpulls put to the side for a moment, one of the most common complaints about crypto is the perception regarding its real-world utility and usage. It’s pretty common to hear that there’s no use case for it, or that converting it into goods and services can be a painful process. And while that might have been true over the past years, in 2024 there’s a myriad of ways that you can spend, earn and use your crypto for real-world purchases.

In today’s article, we’ll be looking at some of these spending options. And, while the article title is Spend on SOL, the reality is, that you have a much broader choice of tokens for spending depending on the provider you choose. Let’s check it out!

### Payment Options

While there are a number of different ways to complete the on/off ramp process one of the easiest ways to spend crypto can be by using a virtual credit card. These providers will use a payment provider to supply the card and will typically use stablecoins to ensure that the card isn’t subject to extreme market fluctuations. Typically, this is one of the easiest ways to use your crypto. It’s also one of the most convenient, as you can often add your virtual card to Apple or Google Pay. 

Another option relies on using direct transfer. Typically, this means using something like PayID to ensure your crypto is able to be sent quickly and easily with minimal risk of errors. Depending on the type of payment you are trying to make, you might find this to be an easier option. 

Direct conversion is one of the other commonly found options available. This uses a provider like Paypal to convert crypto to USD (or in reverse) before the account holder can use it as a payment source wherever PayPal is accepted. 

So, there are plenty of options available for you to spend should you choose to. The more difficult option can often be finding the provider that works best for your circumstances.
