June 2023 In Review
June was a very busy month over at Subsocial, with mountains of Grill.chat updates, and some fun times at Polkadot Decoded! We’re trying to keep this post short, so let’s dive in.
SocialFi Twitter Space
On June 1st we held a Twitter space with the team from Crust Network to discuss SocialFi, and the intersection of social and storage use cases.
PolkadotPrague
Our founder Alex Siman gave a presentation at PolkadotPrague, where he talked about Build2Earn.

Sub.ID Proposal
Our Polkadot treasury proposal for continued development of Sub.ID was approved, as the council recognized Sub.ID as a common good utility for the entire ecosystem!
Subsocial Roadmap Update
June 15th saw a blog post detailing our major achievements over the recent months, and a broad overview of our focuses for the coming months, including enabling token transfers and Creator Staking.
Grill.chat Improvements
The bulk of our news from June was related to Grill.chat, as we shipped a lot of updates. First was the ability to “join” chats, adding them to the My Chats tab. Next, we enabled users to link their EVM accounts to their Grill accounts, which was featured in CoinTelegraph, and this led to the donations feature, which currently supports Polygon and Moonbeam.
Support for embedding NFTs from various popular marketplaces was added, with a variety of chains supported (including Moonbeam and Astar), including RMRK NFTs, thanks to API support from the KodaDot team.
Finally, we added support for images to Grill.chat, and created a notification service that uses a Telegram bot to alert you.
Polkassembly Grill.chat Integration
Rounding out the Grill.chat updates, Polkassembly finalized their Grill.chat integration, with specific governance channels for every supported parachain!
Polkadot Decoded
Our founder Alex gave a presentation on the first day of Decoded, showing how we are unlocking Web2 UX in Polkadot with the power of Substrate.
We also held a campaign on Grill.chat called Grill Decoded, Get Rewarded, where users could ask questions to presenters, or write notes/TL;DRs about presentations, and receive USDT, .polka Subsocial Usernames, and possibly Spacer Marine NFTs!
On the second day of the conference, we took part in a side event with KodaDot, Crust Network, and Zeitgeist, called On-Chain Fun With Web3 Social Apps, where Alex gave a short presentation and took part in a panel with members of the Crust and Zeitgeist teams.
As mentioned in a previous post, we are still working towards enabling token transfers, and have some exciting stuff coming soon. Stay tuned, and we’ll see you on-chain!
